NCAA DIVISION THREE
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The TRINE UNIVERSITY THUNDER clashed with the HAMPDEN-SYDNEY COLLEGE TIGERS for the D3 title.
Both teams played suffocating defense in the 1st Half, with the Tigers clinging to a tight 25-23 edge at the midpoint. After the break the Thunder offense kicked into action, outscoring Hampden-Sydney College 46-36 for a 69-61 victory. Cortez Garland scored 22 points to lead Trine University.
NJCAA DIVISION THREE
ROUND ONE: GAME ONE – The 5 seeds – the BROOKDALE COLLEGE JERSEY BLUES – took the court against the 12th seeded HOSTOS COLLEGE CAIMANS.
Come Halftime the Jersey Blues held a 43-34 advantage. From there Brookdale College got more and more separation from the Caimans on the way to winning the game 93-76. Darnell Askew led the Jersey Blues with his Double Double of THIRTY-ONE points and 11 rebounds. Two of his teammates also logged Double Doubles – Manny Bell with 24 points & 10 rebounds, and Savon Myers with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
ROUND ONE: GAME TWO – In this game the 6th seeded RAINY RIVER COLLEGE VOYAGEURS faced the 11 seeds – the JOLIET COLLEGE WOLVES.
The opening Half ended with the Voyageurs out in front of Joliet College 38-32. After the break Rainy River College extended their lead over the Wolves by 3 more points and won by a final tally of 70-61. Nineteen points from Christian Pujals led the Voyageurs.
ROUND ONE: GAME THREE – Up next the 9 seeds – the SANDHILLS COLLEGE FLYERS – did battle with the 8th seeded FULTON-MONTGOMERY COLLEGE RAIDERS.
The Raiders were up 45-43 at Halftime, but saw that edge evaporate as Sandhills College forced Overtime with a 78-78 tie to end Regulation. In the extra session the Flyers won by a mild Upset of 89-84. Nahjhime Kirton of Sandhills College led his team with a Double Double of 25 points and 18 rebounds.
ROUND ONE: GAME FOUR – Closing out Round One was this clash between the 10th seeded RIVERLAND COLLEGE BLUE DEVILS and the 7 seeds – the PRINCE GEORGE’S COLLEGE OWLS.
The Blue Devils put Prince George’s College on Upset Alert at the midpoint of the game with a lead of 46-34. From there Riverland College squeezed out a little more separation from the Owls for a 93-78 Upset win. Damar Jenkins tossed in 19 points to lead the Blue Devils to victory.
