BALLADEER’S BLOG’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL POSTSEASON RESULTS FROM DECEMBER 2nd

NAIA

FIRST QUARTERFINAL – The COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES were on the road at the GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS (should be Zebras). Grand View U. was on top 3-0 in the 1st Quarter and 9-0 come Halftime. The Coyotes cut their deficit to 17-14 in the 3rd Quarter on their way to a 31-17 comeback victory.

SECOND QUARTERFINAL – Up next the GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS hosted the INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS. Neither team scored in the opening Quarter but the Tigers took a 21-0 lead with them into the Half. The Wildcats outscored GC 21-10 after the break, but the Tigers won 31-21.  

THIRD QUARTERFINAL – The NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS welcomed the ST. XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS yesterday. A 3-3 1st Quarter tie became a 10-10 Halftime deadlock. The 3rd Quarter ended with the Red Raiders up 20-17 and the 4th in a 34-17 Northwestern College triumph.

FOURTH QUARTERFINAL – In this game the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS faced the visiting BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS. The red-hot Seahawks outscored the Wildcats 28-7 in both Halves, moving on to the Semifinals with an authoritative 56-14 smackdown.   

NCAA DIVISION TWO

FIRST QUARTERFINAL – The COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES OREDIGGERS played host to the CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY WILDCATS in this game. This was a tale of two Halves, as the 2nd Quarter ended in a 14-14 tie. From there the Orediggers dominated, shutting out the Wildcats on their way to a 38-14 blowout.  

SECOND QUARTERFINAL – A very odd affair was in store as the HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON took on the visiting GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS. This entire game was a defensive epic, with a scoreless opening Quarter becoming a 6-0 Lakers edge come Halftime. Another scoreless Quarter followed, then the Bison managed a Touchdown in the 4th to win the game 7-6.  

THIRD QUARTERFINAL – The KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BEARS traveled to face the SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY ROCK. The Golden Bears grabbed a 14-7 1st Quarter lead, which became a 21-14 advantage by the Half. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter, but the 4th brought a 28-16 KU triumph.   

FOURTH QUARTERFINAL – This game pitted the LENOIR-RHYNE UNIVERSITY BEARS against their hosts the VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 28-0 Halftime lead for the Bears. The Blazers got on the board in the 3rd Quarter, making it a 28-7 score but LRU won it in the 4th 35-7.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

FIRST QUARTERFINAL – The WARTBURG COLLEGE KNIGHTS welcomed the storied UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS. The Warhawks were up 14-3 and 21-17 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters, respectively. The 3rd ended in a 24-21 Knights lead and the 4th in a 31-28 Wartburg victory.

SECOND QUARTERFINAL – Next, the CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS visited the ALMA COLLEGE SCOTS. The Scots led 13-7 in the opening Quarter but the Red Dragons made it a 34-34 tie come Halftime. Cortland State took a 48-41 advantage in the 3rd Quarter then won the game 58-41 in the 4th. 

THIRD QUARTERFINAL – The RANDOLPH-MACON COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS called on the JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUE JAYS. The Blue Jays saw their 3-0 1st Quarter lead become a 21-9 Yellow Jackets advantage by the break. Johns Hopkins University cut that to a 29-22 edge in the 3rd, and a thrilling 4th ended with RMC winning it by a tight 39-36. 

FOURTH QUARTERFINAL – The defending national champions – the NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE CARDINALS – were on the road against the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-LACROSSE EAGLES. By Halftime the Cardinals were up 35-14 but the Eagles cut that to a 41-28 lead to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th NCC triumphed 55-42.   

NJCAA

FIRST SEMIFINAL – The EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS took on the home standing HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS. The Lions led 14-10 in the 1st Quarter but the Blue Dragons pulled to within 14-13 going into the break. In the 3rd Quarter Hutchinson College went out in front 23-20 but EMC came back for a 27-23 win in the 4th.

SECOND SEMIFINAL – The IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS fought it out with the KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS. This game was never competitive as the Reivers seized a 28-0 advantage in the opening Quarter and coasted the rest of the way. The final score was Iowa Western College 47  Rangers 7. 

CCCAA

FIRST SEMIFINAL – The COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS played the AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS yesterday. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 16-6 Bulldogs advantage at the Half. The 4th Quarter started with the College of San Mateo in the lead 30-13, but they had to hold on by their fingertips against a furious Beavers rally to win the game 30-27.

SECOND SEMIFINAL – The RIVERSIDE CITY COLLEGE TIGERS mixed it up with the VENTURA COLLEGE PIRATES. By Halftime the Tigers were on top 17-10, following which Riverside City College went up 31-20 to end the 3rd Quarter. The 4th ended in a 45-26 Tigers victory.

NCAA DIVISION TWO BOWLS

LIVE UNITED BOWL – The SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS did battle with the UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI WESTERN GRIFFONS. The Muleriders were on top 6-0 in the 1st Quarter and 15-13 at Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with a 29-27 SAU edge and the 4th in a 43-27 Muleriders victory.  

HERITAGE BOWL – In this Bowl the EMPORIA STATE HORNETS played the SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM. The Hornets’ 17-10 opening Quarter lead became 31-17 by the Half. After the break Emporia State left the Crimson Storm further and further behind, ultimately winning the game 55-24.

AMERICA’S CROSSROADS BOWL – The ASHLAND UNIVERSITY EAGLES took the field against the MCKENDREE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie turned into a 20-14 Bearcats lead by the midpoint of the game. From there the Eagles outscored McKendree University 9-0 for a 23-20 comeback victory. 

NJCAA BOWL GAMES

HEART OF TEXAS BOWL – The COPIAH-LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK clashed with the NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS. By Halftime the Bulldogs were on top 13-7, but the Wolfpack went up 21-13 in the 3rd Quarter, then maintained distance in the 4th to win the game 28-20.

WOOL BOWL – In this Bowl the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS played the NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry). Neither team scored in the opening Quarter, but the tone of the game was set in the 2nd, as the Conquistadors took a 20-0 lead by the break. That became a 30-0 3rd Quarter advantage and finally a 37-6 Dodge City College victory.

GAME ONE BOWL – The IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS squared off against the SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS. A 3-3 1st Quarter tie was as close as things got, as the Tritons went up 17-3 by Halftime and 24-3 in the 3rd Quarter before winning it in the 4th 44-9.   

CCCAA BOWLS

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA BOWL – The BUTTE COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS (for whom Aaron Rodgers played Quarterback years ago) took on the REEDLEY COLLEGE TIGERS. The Roadrunners saw their 7-3 1st Quarter edge become a 17-14 Tigers lead by Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter Butte College went up 24-17 before winning the game 30-24 in the 4th. 

GOLDEN STATE BOWL – The COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS GIANTS faced the SIERRA COLLEGE WOLVERINES. A 14-13 Giants lead in the opening Quarter turned into a 21-20 edge by the break. The Wolverines used a 2-point PAT to end the 3rd Quarter on top 28-21 but the College of the Sequoias came from behind in the 4th to win out 31-28.

GRIZZLY BOWL – This Bowl pitted the COLLEGE OF THE REDWOODS CORSAIRS against the HARTNELL COLLEGE PANTHERS. The Corsairs converted their 14-0 1st Quarter lead into a 42-0 advantage at Halftime and never let up from there on their way to a SIXTY-THREE to NOTHING massacre. 

AMERICAN DIVISION BOWL – The 2023 edition of this game found the FOOTHILL COLLEGE OWLS playing the MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS. A quick 7-0 Lobos lead early in the game wound up as a 21-7 Owls advantage by the break. 28-14 was the Foothill College advantage in the 3rd Quarter and the 4th ended in a 35-22 triumph for the Owls.
