NUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – In NCAA Division Two the 24th ranked MISSOURI WESTERN STATE GRIFFONS played host to the number 3 team in the nation – the PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS. This Instant Classic saw the Gorillas on top 17-10 at Halftime but the Griffons up 24-17 in the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, Missouri Western State held on against a Pittsburg State rally to win the game 31-30.
DOWN GOES NUMBER FIVE – Over in the NAIA, the number 23 DORDT UNIVERSITY DEFENDERS took it on the road against the 5th ranked MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS. The Defenders put the Mustangs on Upset Alert by the Half with their 21-7 advantage. MC cut that to a 21-14 score to end the 3rd, then Dordt survived the 4th Quarter with a 28-24 victory.
WE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASKETBALL GAME BROKE OUT – Down in NCAA Division Three, the MUSKINGUM UNIVERSITY MUSKIES played the visiting WILMINGTON COLLEGE QUAKERS. Points flew like shrapnel as a 28-28 Halftime tie became 42-42 in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th saw the Muskies eke out a 64-63 triumph.
USCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – In the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (as in Shipbuilders) welcomed the HOCKING COLLEGE HAWKS. This was a tale of two Halves as the Builders led just 34-27 at the midpoint, then dominated the Hawks from there to win the game 55-33.
CHARGERS ON THE ROAD – Back in D2, the storied HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS traveled to face the WALSH UNIVERSITY CAVALIERS. The Chargers were well and truly in control 21-3 by Halftime. From there they coasted to a 28-3 victory.
“LAST CHANCE U.” – The ARKANSAS BAPTIST COLLEGE BUFFALOES at last notched their 2nd win of the 2023 season. It came against the visiting CENTENARY COLLEGE GENTLEMEN. The Buffaloes kicked around their opponents, ultimately routing them 55-23.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The number 13 UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS absolutely mauled their hosts, the 12th ranked CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS 38-17 ### And the UNIVERSITY OF ST. FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS toppled the visiting number 20 CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS 34-24.
TIGHT SHAVE FOR THE STEERS – The TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS visited the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be the Flying Ws) yesterday. The Pioneers led 24-20 at the Half but the Steers went up 38-29 in the 3rd Quarter. Texas College held on against a Wayland Baptist rally in the 4th to win out 38-36.
ALL NAME GAMES – The (22) MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS won 28-0 at the MONTANA-NORTHERN LIGHTS ### Meanwhile, the UNIVERSITY OF ST. MARY SPIRES downed the visiting TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS 40-31 ### And the BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS won 27-3 at the BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES.
WORKING OVERTIME – In this game the OTTAWA (KS) UNIVERSITY BRAVES welcomed the KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES. A 14-14 Halftime tie was followed by a scoreless 3rd Quarter. The 4th ended in a 21-21 deadlock, then the Braves managed a 27-24 win in the extra session.

BATTLE ROYAL – The WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS took the field against their guests the AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES. The Royals saw their 24-19 lead at the Half turn into a 32-31 Gyrenes edge in the 3rd Quarter. From there Warner University came from behind for a 40-32 triumph.
VICTORY FOR FORT LAUDERDALE – The UNIVERSITY OF FORT LAUDERDALE EAGLES (should be Flamingos) paid a visit to the NORTH AMERICAN UNIVERSITY STALLIONS. By the midpoint UFL was out in front 21-14 and 28-20 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th the Eagles won 34-29.
SENIOR DAY – The AVILA UNIVERSITY EAGLES (formerly the Avalanche) celebrated Senior Day with this game against the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS. Avila U. led 7-3, 13-10 and 21-10 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively, then exploded in the 4th for a 41-10 blowout.
STING LIKE A BEE – The ST. AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES took on the visiting JUDSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES. A 7-7 opening Quarter tie became a 24-14 Fighting Bees advantage by Halftime. St. Ambrose University kept up the pressure after the break to win the game 41-21.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The MCKENDREE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS traveled to take on the number 11 UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS and managed a 21-16 victory over them ### And in DOUBLE OVERTIME the TUSCULUM COLLEGE PIONEERS Upset the visiting 25th ranked MARS HILL UNIVERSITY LIONS 29-27.
CLOSE CALL FOR NUMBER TEN – The number 10 team in the nation, the MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS, visited the WINONA STATE WARRIORS yesterday. The Mavericks led 28-7 at the midpoint, but from there the Warriors outscored them 35-21, falling short of Minnesota State by just 49-42.
COOL NAME BOWLS – The COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDER WOLVES won 35-28 at the SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS ### Elsewhere, the SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM won big 41-14 at the UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS AT MONTICELLO BOLL WEEVILS ### And the CENTRAL STATE MARAUDERS triumphed 13-10 at the KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS.
HAPPY HOMECOMING – This game pitted the ARKASAS TECH WONDERBOYS against the visiting SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM. The defenses were formidable as a scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a mere 7-7 tie at the Half. The Wonderboys went up 14-7 in the 3rd Quarter, which held up as the final score as well.

NEAR MISS FOR NUMBER TWENTY-TWO – The 22nd ranked MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES hosted the FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE DIPLOMATS. The Mules saw their 21-14 Halftime lead become a 35-35 tie to end Regulation. The 1st Overtime ended in a 42-42 deadlock before Muhlenberg pulled out a 48-45 win in the 2nd.
PUTTING IN OVERTIME – The number 24 COE COLLEGE KOHAWKS traveled to face the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE SPARTANS and prevailed over them 23-20 in an extra session ### And the HAMPDEN-SYDNEY COLLEGE TIGERS won a 26-25 Overtime affair against the SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY HORNETS.
WHO GOT TO BEAT THEM THIS WEEK? – The COLLEGE OF WOOSTER SCOTS got to crush the team from one of the most hated schools in the country – the OBERLIN COLLEGE YEOMEN. The Scots led 17-0 in the opening Quarter and never looked back on their way to a 36-0 blowout victory.
ROAD WARRIORS – The CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS COLLEGE STAGS won out 30-13 at the CAL LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY KINGSMEN ### Meanwhile, the AMHERST COLLEGE MAMMOTHS defeated their hosts the BOWDOIN COLLEGE POLAR BEARS 27-23 ### And the ALBION COLLEGE BRITONS won 35-7 at the OLIVET COLLEGE COMETS.
NJCAA DIVISION ONE
EASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE – The country’s number 1 HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS clobbered their hosts the INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES to the tune of 42-8 ### The 2nd ranked IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS survived a 20-17 visit from the COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS ### And the number 3 KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS won 38-28 at the BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS.
A DOUBLE-SHOT OF THAT O.T. LOVE – The (14) LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS visited the MONROE COLLEGE MUSTANGS. A 20-18 Falcons edge at the break became 27-27 to end the 4th Quarter. The 1st OT ended in a 30-30 deadlock, but the 2nd saw a gutsy 2-point PAT by Lackawanna give them a 38-36 victory.
HAPPY HOME STANDS – The (9) DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS defeated the BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES 31-10 ### Elsewhere, the NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry) routed the PAPAGO PUMAS 41-21 ### And the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS won handily 41-13 over the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES.
ONE-POINT WONDER – This game pitted the (4) SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS against their hosts the GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS. The Badgers led 21-18 come Halftime before the Broncbusters went on top 32-27 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th Snow College won 33-32.
NJCAA DIVISION THREE (no football in their D2)
NUMBER ONE STAYS UNBEATEN – The 2-time defending national champs, the top ranked COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS, took on the visiting GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The Chaparrals left the Bulldogs further and further behind, ultimately winning by a comfortable 37-21 final score.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – The NASSAU COUNTY COLLEGE LIONS did battle with their guests, the LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES. In this tightly played New York versus North Carolina clash, the Lions emerged with a victory in the end. The final tally was NCC 24 Hurricanes 21.
SKYLANDERS RUN WILD – The SUSSEX COUNTY COLLEGE SKYLANDERS welcomed the ERIE COLLEGE KATS. The Skylanders folded, spindled and mutilated the hapless Kats on both sides of the ball. In the end Sussex County College won the game FIFTY-FIVE to SIX.
IN THE VALLEY – The MILFORD ACADEMY FALCONS found themselves on the road against the HUDSON VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS (should be Dutch). A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 7-6 Falcons edge at Halftime. That became a 19-13 Milford lead in the 3rd Quarter and ultimately a 28-20 victory in the 4th.

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The 24th ranked BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE RENEGADES bumped off the number 12 COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS COUGARS by a score of 35-21 ### And the number 14 FRESNO CITY COLLEGE RAMS edged the 13th ranked REEDLEY COLLEGE TIGERS 24-21.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The SANTA BARBARA CITY COLLEGE VAQUEROS defeated their guests the MOORPARK COLLEGE RAIDERS 30-22 ### Meanwhile, the SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CORSAIRS survived a 34-29 visit from the LOS ANGELES VALLEY COLLEGE MONARCHS ### And the HARTNELL COLLEGE PANTHERS edged the LOS MEDANOS COLLEGE MUSTANGS 50-49.
SHUT OUT – This game saw the YUBA COLLEGE FORTY-NINERS play host to the COLLEGE OF THE SISKIYOUS EAGLES. The Forty-Niners managed a work of defensive perfection, leading the Eagles 7-0 at the midpoint before consummating the shut out by a final tally of 10-0.
ROAD RAGE – The MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS obliterated the CABRILLO COLLEGE SEAHAWKS to the tune of 52-14 ### And the storied MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES made the LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE VIKINGS (should be the Beachcombers) their prison brides SEVENTY to FOURTEEN!
