KNOCKING OFF NUMBER ONE – In NCAA Division Two, the 4th ranked GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS welcomed the number 1 team in the nation – the FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS. The Lakers were on top 35-21 by Halftime, then the Bulldogs made it a 35-28 game to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, Grand Valley State pulled away for a 49-28 trumph.
DOWN GOES NUMBER FOUR – Down in NCAA Division Three, the number 7 UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS visited the country’s 4th ranked UW-RIVER FALLS FALCONS. A 6-0 1st Quarter lead for the Warhawks became 15-7 at the Half. After the break Whitewater held off the Falcons to win the game 21-14.
AND NUMBER SIX COMES TUMBLING AFTER – Back up in the NAIA, the FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS took the field against the visiting number 6 SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS. The Falcons had the Moundbuilders faithful worried with a 12-0 Halftime advantage. Friends University pulled further and further away in the 2nd Half for a 35-20 Upset.
EIGHTY-THREE – Staying in the NAIA for a moment, the (24) OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT played host to the ARKANSAS BAPTIST COLLEGE BUFFALOS yesterday. The Spirit made ABC want to just burn the game tape and deny they were ever in Arizona as they dismembered them EIGHTY-THREE to NOTHING.
DOWN GO SEVEN AND EIGHT – D2’s UNIVERSITY OF WEST ALABAMA TIGERS edged the 7th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS in a 10-7 defensive struggle ### And the number 9 HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON clobbered the 8th ranked OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY TIGERS 41-10.
NUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – Down in the NJCAA, the 12th ranked BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES visited the number 3 team in the land – the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS. The Grizzlies had their way with the stunned Tritons, mangling them by a final count of 45-10.
USCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – In the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association), the WILLIAMSON COLLEGE OF THE TRADES MECHANICS celebrated Homecoming against the NEW JERSEY WARRIORS. A scoreless opening Quarter turned into a 6-0 Halftime edge for the Mechanics, who went on to a 13-2 triumph.
NO OFFENSE – Neither the KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BEARS nor their guests the SHIPPENSBURG UNIVERSITY RED RAIDERS distinguished themselves offensively on Saturday. At the Half the Golden Bears held a mere 3-0 edge but the Red Raiders tied the game 3-3 to send it into Overtime. Kutztown emerged with a 9-6 win.
HILLSDALE DOMINATES – The famed HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS hosted the KENTUCKY WESLEYAN COLLEGE PANTHERS in this game. The Chargers were out in front of their opponents 31-7 by the break, and from there they coasted to a 44-14 blowout.

FOURTH QUARTER COMEBACK – The MOUNT MARTY UNIVERSITY LANCERS took it on the road against the MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS. Midland U. led 21-7 by the midpoint of the game. Neither team scored in the 3rd Quarter, but the Lancers exploded in the 4th for a magnificent 28-21 comeback victory.
UNHAPPY HOMECOMINGS – The (15) EVANGEL UNIVERSITY VALOR rained on the Homecoming festivities for the BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES by beating them 34-11 ### And the OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (KS) BRAVES likewise spoiled the party for the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES 28-17.
BOBBIN’ ALONG – In this game the PERU STATE BOBCATS welcomed the GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS. Though the Bobcats led 17-3 at the midpoint the Yellow Jackets knotted things up at 24-24 in the 3rd Quarter. The 4th saw Peru State win out 37-31.
ROAD RAGE – The (20) DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS won 49-20 at the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS ### Meanwhile, the LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS shut out the NORTH AMERICAN UNIVERSITY STALLIONS 40-0 ### And the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN routed the CLARKE UNIVERSITY PRIDE 41-20.

TWISTER – In this game the GENEVA COLLEGE GOLDEN TORNADOES were on the road against the THIEL COLLEGE TOMCATS. A scoreless 1st Quarter turned into a 13-3 Golden Tornadoes advantage by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with Geneva College on top 20-3 and the 4th in a 20-9 win for the Golden Tornadoes.
SHUTOUTS – The UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE BEARS welcomed the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS and sent them home reeling from a 49-0 beatdown ### And the TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS achieved defensive perfection 51-0 at the SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS.
UNHAPPY HOMECOMING – The TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS found themselves on the road against the STERLING COLLEGE WARIORS. The Blue Jays led their opponents 3-0 in the 1st Quarter, then gradually got more and more separation from the Warriors for a 24-10 triumph.
BATTLE OF HIGHWAY FIFTY-FIVE – This year’s Battle of Highway 55 between the LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS and their hosts the CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be Burgundy Tigers) was fairly one-sided. The Blue Raiders won easily 35-14.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the D2 rankings on Saturday came in the game between the NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS and their hosts the number 21 MISSOURI WESTERN STATE GRIFFONS. The Bearcats saw their 24-10 Halftime lead turn into a 2nd Half rally by the Griffons. Northwest Missouri State held on to win the game 27-24.
ONE-POINT WONDERS – The SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS managed a 35-34 victory at the HENDERSON STATE REDDIES ### Meanwhile, the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM edged their hosts the SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM 20-19 ### And the MERCYHURST UNIVERSITY LAKERS won 36-35 at the CLARION GOLDEN EAGLES.
YOU SCORE IN THE FIRST HALF, WE’LL SCORE IN THE SECOND – This odd game pitted the OHIO DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY PANTHERS against the home standing WALSH UNIVERSITY CAVALIERS. The Cavs were on top 10-0 come Halftime, following which the Panthers had the only 2nd Half points for a 12-10 victory.
COOL NAME BOWLS – The KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS won a gripping 21-14 affair at the LANE COLLEGE DRAGONS ### Meanwhile, the (2) COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES OREDIGGERS clobbered the SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS 45-22 ### And the INDIANA UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS doubled up on the EDINBORO FIGHTING SCOTS 20-10.
NCAA DIVISION THREE
WORKING OVERTIME – The UNIVERSITY OF MASSACHUSSETS AT DARTMOUTH CORSAIRS notched a 26-23 OT triumph at the WESTFIELD STATE OWLS ### And in DOUBLE OVERTIME, the LORAS COLLEGE DUHAWKS overcame the home standing NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES 41-38.
DOUBLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – This game pitted the UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS against the visiting MASSACHUSSETS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY ENGINEERS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie morphed into a 21-7 Mariners lead by Halftime and ultimately a 28-14 win for the USMMA.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF RANK – The CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS won 21-18 at the ROWAN UNIVERSITY PROFS ### The CENTRE COLLEGE COLONELS crushed the visiting SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY PIRATES 45-21 ### And the WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS triumphed 41-16 over the FERRUM COLLEGE PANTHERS.
BIG AND LITTLE – This game pitted the DENISON UNIVERSITY BIG RED against their guests the WABASH COLLEGE LITTLE GIANTS. The 1st Quarter ended in a 7-7 tie but the Big Red went up 14-10 by Halftime. The Little Giants took a 24-21 lead in the 3rd Quarter, but Denison U. came back to win out 28-24.
NJCAA DIVISION ONE
UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – In Overtime the EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE WARRIORS defeated the visiting (9) NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE TIGERS 28-21 ### Elsewhere, the COPIAH-LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK won 28-23 at the (4) MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLLEGE BULLDOGS ### And the CISCO COLLEGE WRANGLERS toppled their hosts the (14) NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS 21-10.
SHUTOUT – The (8) SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS were less than gracious hosts to the ST. GEORGE COLLEGE EAGLES yesterday. The Badgers parlayed a 21-0 opening Quarter lead into a 41-0 advantage at Halftime before going on to win out by a final score of 58-0.
AGAINST THE WIND – The MONROE COLLEGE MUSTANGS took it on the road against the LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES. The Mustangs proved unfazed by the relocation of this game to Rocky Mount, NC and managed an authoritative 29-10 victory.
HOME AND AWAY – For the Home portion, the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES survived a 10-7 defensive epic against the INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES ### And for the Away portion, the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS won 21-7 to ruin Homecoming for the ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS.
NJCAA DIVISION THREE (no football in their D2)
BATTLE IN THE TOP FOUR – In this game the number 3 NORTH DAKOTA STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE WILDCATS took the field against the visiting 4th ranked MINNESOTA NORTHERN COLLEGE AT MESABI RANGE NORSE. The Wildcats affirmed their position with a 14-7 victory over the Norse.
THIS GAME WAS FOR THE BIRDS – The LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS played host to the HOCKING COLLEGE HAWKS. The Falcons held their opponents to just a Field Goal and a Safety for a 24-5 Halftime lead before shutting out the Hawks entirely the rest of the way. LC won the game 31-5.
THE LIONS ROAR – The NASSAU COUNTY COLLEGE LIONS traveled to face the ERIE COLLEGE KATS on Saturday. The Lions were on top 10-3 by the midpoint of the game. Nassau County College shut out the Kats the rest of the way for a 27-3 smackdown.
TWILIGHT ZONE – Close games were nearly unheard of in this division yesterday. The number 2 ROCHESTER TECHNICAL COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS and the MNC-VERMILION IRONHAWKS played one of the strangest blowouts, however. NEITHER team scored for the first 3 Quarters, and in the action-packed 4th, the Yellow Jackets won 49-18.

DOWN GOES NUMBER NINE – The number 17 COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS COUGARS paid a visit to the 9th ranked EL CAMINO COLLEGE WARRIORS. The Cougars put El Camino College on Upset Alert with their 21-14 Halftime advantage, then carried through by defeating the Warriors 31-21.
UNDER THE RADAR GAMES – The PASADENA CITY COLLEGE LANCERS handily beat the visiting SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CORSAIRS 17-3 ### The SAN JOSE CITY COLLEGE JAGUARS won 21-14 over the MERCED COLLEGE BLUE DEVILS ### And the FRESNO CITY COLLEGE RAMS triumphed 31-28 at the COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS GIANTS.
DOUBLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – In this game the (21) EAST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE HUSKIES were on the road against the LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE VIKINGS (should be the Beachcombers). The Huskies led 20-7 in the opening Quarter and kept up the pressure from there for a 54-27 victory.
THE COOLER TEAM NAME WINS – The (8) GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS eviscerated the ORANGE COAST COLLEGE PIRATES 58-9 in their own house ### Meanwhile, the (3) MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES hammered the (15) CERRITOS COLLEGE SEAHAWKS 29-7 ### And the SANTA BARBARA CITY COLLEGE VAQUEROS won 45-13 at the ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE MARAUDERS.
