DELTA STATE TAKES DOWN DIVISION ONE – The NCAA Division Two’s DELTA STATE STATESMEN welcomed NCAA Division ONE’s MISSISSIPPI VALLEY STATE DELTA DEVILS yesterday. The 1st Half was pretty tight with the Delta Devils clinging to a mere 7-6 edge at the break. The Statesmen came out of the locker room on fire and seized a 22-7 lead in the 3rd Quarter before blowing out Mississippi Valley State 35-7 in the 4th.
MARATHON GAME OF THE WEEK – To paraphrase Winston Churchill, “Never have so many football players played for so long for so few points.” The NEWBERRY COLLEGE WOLVES and their guests the EMORY & HENRY UNIVERSITY WASPS needed SIX OVERTIMES to finish their game. With that many OT’s you’d expect a score of at least forty-something points apiece instead of the 25-23 Wolves victory that we got.
KNOCKING OFF NUMBER TEN – Down in NCAA Division Three, the 22nd ranked SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY RIVER HAWKS visited the number 10 CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS. The Red Dragons led 14-7 in the 1st Quarter and 21-14 at Halftime. A 35-21 Cortland State advantage to end the 3rd Quarter was followed by a furious River Hawks rally in the 4th as they came back to win it 38-35.
ANOTHER NUMBER TEN FELL – Up in NCAA Division Two later in the day, the CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY WILDCATS welcomed the 10th ranked ANGELO STATE RAMS. A 10-10 tie at the midpoint turned into a 20-10 Wildcats advantage in the 3rd Quarter and finally a 27-24 Central Washington victory.
USCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – In the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) the MORAVIAN UNIVERSITY GREYHOUNDS took the field against the visiting NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders). A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by a 14-0 Greyhounds lead at the Half. After the break the Builders mounted a mighty comeback attempt but fell short 29-28.
NUMBER FOUR TAKES A FALL – In NJCAA Division One action, the 13th ranked EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS played host to the number 4 team in the nation – the JONES COLLEGE BOBCATS. The 1st Half ended with the Lions on top 28-20, but EMC dominated the Bobcats the rest of the way for a tremendous 47-23 Upset.
AND NUMBER FIVE COMES TUMBLING AFTER – Staying in NJCAA1 for a moment, the number 15 TYLER COLLEGE APACHES took it on the road against the country’s 5th ranked TRINITY VALLEY COLLEGE CARDINALS yesterday. The Cardinals led 7-3 in the opening Quarter but the Apaches knotted things up 10-10 by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 17-17 deadlock, then with time expiring in the 4th Tyler College notched a Field Goal to win out 20-17.
DOWN GOES NUMBER EIGHT – Down even lower to the CCCAA, the 13th ranked GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS traveled to face the number 8 SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS. The Rustlers increased their 14-7 1st Quarter advantage to 21-7 by the Half. Golden West College scored the only points in the 2nd Half in their 28-7 victory.
UNLUCKY THIRTEEN – Back up in D2, the FORT HAYS STATE TIGERS played host to the nation’s number 13 NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS. A 3-3 Halftime tie became a 10-6 Tigers edge to end the 3rd Quarter and ultimately a 17-6 Upset of the Bearcats in the 4th.
NAIA VERSUS NCAA DIVISION THREE
NAIA OVER D3 – The NAIA’s AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES won 27-14 at NCAA3’s TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS ### Meanwhile, the SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS (should be Sea Gulls) mangled the WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS 49-7 ### And the UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS crushed the LEWIS & CLARK COLLEGE PIONEERS 49-13.
D3 OVER NAIA – The lone NCAA3 victory over an NAIA team yesterday came in the clash between the SUL ROSS STATE LOBOS and the visiting WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be Flying Ws). The Lobos spotted their opponents a 7-0 1st Quarter lead then kept them off the scoreboard the rest of the way for a 27-7 triumph.

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS snuck past their guests the number 14 REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be Rottweilers) in a 20-19 thriller ### And the MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS toppled the home standing 18th ranked GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS 49-42.
HAPPY HOMECOMING – In this game the DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be Blue Tigers) celebrated Homecoming against the MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS. Midland U. was on top 26-13 at the Half but the Tigers pulled to within 26-20 in the 3rd Quarter. From there Dakota Wesleyan came from behind for a 33-32 squeaker win.
DOUBLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – The (9) SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS took down the home standing TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS by a score of 20-10 ### And the SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS prevailed 28-14 against the visiting SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES.
ONE-POINT WONDER – The ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM hosted the MONTANA STATE-NORTHERN LIGHTS yesterday. The Lights were on top 13-7 at the midpoint of the game and 20-7 in the 3rd Quarter. The Firestorm managed a thrilling 21-20 comeback win in the 4th.
NCCAA
WARRIOR FEST – The STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS marked their annual Warrior Fest with a game against the visiting BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES. The Warriors held a slight 14-13 edge over the Swedes come Halftime but the 3rd Quarter ended in a 20-20 deadlock. In the 4th Sterling College went on to win it 27-20.
BEATDOWNS – The CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX won a 50-6 blowout over the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS ### The OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT clobbered their hosts the TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS to the tune of 62-14 ### And the SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS won 40-18 at the ARKANSAS BAPTIST COLLEGE BUFFALOES.
SHUTOUT – The CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS squared off against the visiting JUDSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Cardinals grabbed a quick 14-0 opening Quarter lead and never looked back from there. In the end Concordia University won the game by a final tally of 54-0.
SAINT VINCENT FIELD – Close games were virtually unheard of in yesterday’s NCCAA gridiron action. The MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS held serve against the OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS (should be Purple Tigers). A 38-14 Knights advantage at the Half was followed by a scoreless 3rd Quarter and ultimately a 45-14 rout of ONU.
NCAA DIVISION TWO
OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The WESTERN COLORADO UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS won 30-14 at the (21) COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDER WOLVES ### Elsewhere, the TUSCULUM UNIVERSITY PIONEERS downed their hosts the (24) WINGATE BULLDOGS 23-21 ### And the TRUMAN STATE BULLDOGS defeated the (25) SAGINAW VALLEY STATE CARDINALS 21-7.
CLOSE CALL FOR NUMBER THREE – The number 3 team in the land – the PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS – were on the road against the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES. The Mules were up 10-7 in the 1st Quarter and 17-10 at Halftime. The Gorillas went on top 24-17 in the 3rd Quarter then held on by their fingertips in the 4th for a 38-37 triumph.
ALL NAME GAMES – The HENDERSON STATE REDDIES eked out a 27-24 win at the ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS ### Meanwhile, the UPPER IOWA UNIVERSITY PEACOCKS defeated the MISSOURI S&T MINERS 38-26 ### And the JOHNSON C. SMITH UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BULLS won 30-13 against the BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – This game pitted the TIFFIN UNIVERSITY DRAGONS against their hosts the NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY TIMBER WOLVES. The Dragons led 15-7 in the opening Quarter but the Timberwolves went out in front 20-18 by Halftime. Tiffin U. went back up 28-27 in the 3rd then added 6 points in the 4th for a 34-27 win.
NCAA DIVISION THREE
SOMETHING-HAWKS – The COE COLLEGE KOHAWKS paid a visit to the CENTRAL COLLEGE DUTCH on Saturday and defeated them by a final score of 19-11 ### And the LORAS COLLEGE DUHAWKS had a much easier 44-29 win over their guests the LUTHER COLLEGE NORSE.
TRIPLE OVERTIME – The CENTRE COLLEGE COLONELS traveled to face the RHODES UNIVERSITY LYNX. The 4th Quarter ended in a 17-17 tie, and the 1st OT in a 20-20 deadlock. The 2nd Overtime saw a 26-26 score but a Safety by the Colonels in the 3rd OT gave them a 28-26 victory.
COOL-NAME GAMES – The PACIFIC LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY LUTES won a 37-27 home stand against the CAL LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY KINGSMEN ### Elsewhere, the UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO MAROONS obliterated the KNOX COLLEGE PRAIRIE FIRE 62-0 ### And the TRINITY (CT) BANTAMS manhandled the TUFTS UNIVERSITY JUMBOS in a 44-19 laugher.
DEMOCRACY OVER MONARCHY – The WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS took on the visiting METHODIST UNIVERSITY MONARCHS. The Generals put up 27 points in both Halves, leading the Monarchs 27-14 at the break before hammering them by a final count of 54-14.
NJCAA DIVISION ONE
TWO AND THREE REMAIN UNDEFEATED – Top-ranked Hutchinson College had a Bye Week, but the number 2 IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS survived a 21-16 visit from the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES ### And the 3rd ranked KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS smacked down their hosts the (10) NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be Cavalry) 48-23.
BUTLER DID IT! – The (12) BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES took the field against the visiting INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by an 8-6 Grizzlies edge at Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter the Pirates went up 20-15 but Butler College won out 26-20 in the 4th.
REDEFINING BLOWOUTS – The BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS folded, spindled and mutilated the TWA COLLEGE BATTLECATS by an unbelievable score of EIGHTY-NINE to SIX ### Meanwhile, the GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS shut out the GORDON’S ACADEMY WILDCATS 47-0 ### And the MONROE COLLEGE MUSTANGS kicked around the COMMUNITY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE LIONS 41-6.
SKY HIGH – In this game the SUSSEX COUNTY COLLEGE SKYLANDERS hosted the WILLIAMSON COLLEGE OF THE TRADES MECHANICS. Neither team scored in the opening Quarter but the Skylanders led 14-0 by the Half. The Mechanics made it a 21-7 game in the 3rd Quarter before SCC put them away 38-7.
NJCAA DIVISION THREE (no football in their Div 2)
ONE AND TWO BATTLE – The number 1 defending National Champions of NJCAA3 – the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS – went on the road against the 2nd ranked NORTH DAKOTA STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE WILDCATS. It was a hard-fought affair with the Chaparrals winning out 38-31.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – This was a clash between the NASSAU COUNTY COLLEGE LIONS and their hosts the HUDSON VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS. The Vikings saw their 3-0 1st Quarter edge become a 6-6 tie by the midpoint. A scoreless 3rd Quarter was followed by a 13-6 Lions victory in the 4th.
ROAD WARRIORS – The LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES took it on the road against the HOCKING COLLEGE HAWKS and won comfortably 30-6 ### The MINNESOTA STATE TECHNICAL COLLEGE SPARTANS whipped their hosts the MNC-VERMILLION IRONHAWKS 42-7 ### And the ROCHESTER TECHNICAL COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS won 37-21 at the MNC-MESABI RANGE NORSE.
HOME STAND – The CENTRAL LAKES COLLEGE AT BRAINERD RAIDERS (should be the Brainstorms) played the visiting MINNESOTA WEST TECH BLUE JAYS. CLC-Brainerd’s 8-0 1st Quarter lead remained unchanged at Halftime. The Raiders parlayed that into a 21-6 advantage in the 3rd Quarter before winning the game 27-13 from there.
CCCAA
EASY AS ONE, TWO, THREE – The top three teams in the CCCAA all won easily yesterday. The (1) COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS won 37-20 at the (10) MODESTO PIRATES ### The (2) RIVERSIDE CITY COLLEGE TIGERS mauled the (9) EL CAMINO WARRIORS 45-6 ### And the (3) CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO RAMS downed the (5) BUTTE ROADRUNNERS 27-15.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – This game saw the PIERCE COLLEGE BRAHMA BULLS welcome the WEST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE WILDCATS. The Wildcats went up 7-2 in the 1st Quarter but the Brahma Bulls took a 9-7 edge by the Half. West Los Angeles went back on top 22-15 in the 3rd Quarter before Pierce College won it in the 4th 29-22.
THE COOLER TEAM NAME WON – The BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE RENEGADES routed the SAN BERNARDINO COLLEGE WOLVERINES 43-20 ### Elsewhere, the SANTA BARBARA CITY COLLEGE VAQUEROS won 48-14 at the ORANGE COAST COLLEGE PIRATES ### And the CONTRA COSTA COLLEGE COMETS defeated their hosts the SANTA ROSA BEAR CUBS 18-13.
ROARING ON THE ROAD – The LOS ANGELES VALLEY COLLEGE MONARCHS took it on the road against the VICTOR VALLEY COLLEGE RAMS. An 18-10 Halftime advantage for the Rams did not hold up, as the Monarchs made it an 18-16 game to end the 3rd Quarter, then cemented a 23-18 victory.
