INDIANA WESLEYAN CONQUERS DIVISION ONE – Each year plenty of NAIA teams upset higher division opponents and sometimes a few will even topple Division ONE teams. The INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS welcomed D1’s VALPARAISO UNIVERSITY BEACONS yesterday. After a scoreless 1st Quarter, the Wildcats went up 17-7 by Halftime, then had to hold on against a Beacons rally to cement the Upset 24-22.
NORTHWESTERN (IA) ALSO TAKES DOWN D1 – Not to be outdone, the NAIA’s NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS stunned their hosts the DRAKE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS. The Bulldogs led 14-10 at the Half and 14-13 to end the 3rd Quarter but the Red Raiders tied it up 21-21 in the 4th. In Overtime, NC won out 27-24.
ARIZONA CHRISTIAN TOPPLES DIVISION TWO – Speaking of the NAIA downing D2 teams, the ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM played host to the FORT LEWIS COLLEGE SKYHAWKS. The Firestorm completely dominated the Skyhawks, leading them 14-3 at the break enroute to a 49-25 smackdown victory.
MONTANA TECH ALSO TOPPLES D2 – The NAIA’s MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS visited the D2 CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY WILDCATS yesterday. The Wildcats saw their 14-13 opening Quarter edge turn into a 16-14 Orediggers advantage at Halftime, then a 30-21 Montana Tech lead in the 3rd Quarter, and a 37-29 triumph in the 4th.
COLORADO MESA OVER DIVISION ONE – The Division Two COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS took it on the road against Division One’s UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO TOREROS. A 14-14 tie at the Half wound up as a 21-21 deadlock to end the 4th Quarter. In the extra session the Mavericks went on to a 28-21 Upset win.
KNOCKING OFF NUMBER FOUR – Down in NCAA Division Three, the 8th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS hosted the number 4 team in the nation – the SAINT JOHN’S UNIVERSITY JOHNNIES. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became 21-21 at the midpoint before the Warhawks went up 35-28 in the 3rd Quarter before winning it 56-28 from there.
DOWN GOES NUMBER SEVEN – Back up in the NAIA, the GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOWJACKETS faced the visiting 7th ranked BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS yesterday. The Yellowjackets put the Ravens on Upset Alert at the Half with a 21-6 advantage, then held on tight after the break to prevail 37-35.
USCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – In the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (as in Shipbuilders) were on the road against the BUFFALO STATE BENGALS. The Builders held a 21-14 Halftime lead which became 30-20 to end the 3rd Quarter and ultimately a 37-23 victory.
SERVICE ACADEMY MANIA – The UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS handed the visiting GALLAUDET UNIVERSITY BISON a 30-13 loss ### And the COAST GUARD ACADEMY BEARS utterly and completely obliterated their guests the ANNA MARIA COLLEGE AMCATS by an unbelievable score of NINETY-THREE to TWENTY-FOUR!
NUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – Down in the NJCAA the MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLLEGE BULLDOGS hosted the country’s number 3 team – the NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS. It was a close 14-7 Bulldogs lead at the break, but from there MGCC exploded for a 49-14 blowout win.
NAIA VERSUS NCAA DIVISION THREE

D3 OVER NAIA – Yesterday’s D3 wins: The NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES defeated the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS in a 33-30 squeaker ### The WHITWORTH PIRATES won 42-28 at the EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS ### And the HOWARD PAYNE YELLOW JACKETS trounced the SAGU LIONS 42-10.
NAIA OVER D3 – The DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS traveled to face the UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT STOUT BLUE DEVILS. The Blue Hawks led 7-3 and 7-6 in the 1st and 2nd Quarters respectively. After the break Dickinson State outscored the Blue Devils 17-15 to win by a final tally of 24-21.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE notched a 23-20 triumph at the number 10 REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be Rottweilers) ### Meanwhile, the 15th ranked CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS edged the number 14 SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS (should be Tomcats) 26-23 ### And the OTTAWA (KS) UNIVERSITY BRAVES won 28-24 at the (23) BETHEL COLLEGE THRESHERS.
SAINTS PRESERVE US – The (24) UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS played host to the UNIVERSIY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS. Neither team scored in the opening Quarter and at Halftime things stood at just 3-0 in favor of the Fighting Saints. After the break, St. Francis-Illinois added one more Touchdown each in the 3rd and 4th Quarters for a 17-0 shutout.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS took on the THOMAS UNIVERSITY NIGHT HAWKS, in their 1st intercollegiate season, and defeated them 20-17 ### Elsewhere, the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES won 36-32 at the MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS (should be Mastiffs) ### And the MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS survived a 45-44 visit to the PERU STATE BOBCATS.
SWEDES OFF THE SCHNEID – The BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES got their first victory of the 2023 campaign yesterday. The Swedes hosted the TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS and followed up a 14-14 tie to end the 1st Half with an impressive 2nd, winning the game 28-17.

A TALE OF TWO HALVES – The WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS took the field against the visiting UNIVERSITY OF FORT LAUDERDALE EAGLES (should be Flamingos). The 1st Half was very tightly contested, with the Royals on top by a mere 18-13 edge. In the 2nd Half, Warner U. left their opponents further and further behind on their way to a 46-13 blowout win.
SOMETHING ABOUT THE WEATHER – The GENEVA COLLEGE GOLDEN TORNADOES traveled to take on the ALLEGHENY COLLEGE ALLIGATORS yesterday. A 14-7 1st Quarter lead for the Golden Tornadoes became 21-7 by Halftime. The Alligators pulled to within 21-14 to end the 3rd Quarter but Geneva College held on to win the game 27-21.
LOPSIDED VICTORIES – The CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS easily won 56-0 at the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS ### And the UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES notched an authoritative 26-10 triumph over the CONCORDIA (WI) FALCONS.
CRUSADE IN SOUTH CAROLINA – The NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS found themselves on the road against the NEWBERRY COLLEGE WOLVES. The Crusaders led 14-0, 17-7 and 24-7 in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Quarters respectively. In the 4th the Wolves lost 24-14.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY WARRIORS visited the number 12 INDIANA UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS and snuck past them 13-12 ### And the TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS upset their guests the 18th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WEST GEORGIA WOLVES by a score of 20-17.
A DOUBLE-SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – The number 4 team in the land – the GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS – welcomed the 20th ranked COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDER WOLVES. The Lakers were on top 35-21 at the break, but the Thunder Wolves forced Overtime with a 42-42 tie to end the 4th Quarter. The 1st OT ended in a 49-49 deadlock and the 2nd in a 57-49 Grand Valley win.
ALL NAME GAMES – The SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM won a 38-31 thriller at the ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS ### Meanwhile, the MISSOURI WESTERN STATE GRIFFONS crushed the home standing LINCOLN (MO) BLUE TIGERS 68-14 ### And the HENDERSON STATE REDDIES won 38-28 at the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM.
NOW COMES MILLERSVILLE TIME – The MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY MARAUDERS were guests of the GANNON UNIVERSITY GOLDEN KNIGHTS yesterday. The Marauders were up 14-0 at the break and 14-7 to start the 4th Quarter. The Golden Knights tied up things at 21-21 but a late TD from Millersville U. gave them a 28-21 win.
NCAA DIVISION THREE
OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the D3 rankings yesterday came in the game between the MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES and their guests the number 25 SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS. The Mules led the Sea Gulls 21-14 at Halftime and 27-17 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, Muhlenberg College won out 29-17.
NO TEARS FOR THESE MUSKIES – The MUSKINGUM UNIVERSITY MUSKIES took it on the road against the OTTERBEIN UNIVERSITY CARDINALS and defeated them 27-14 ### And the LAKELAND COLLEGE MUSKIES notched a 34-16 road win over the BUENA VISTA UNIVERSITY BEAVERS.
PERFIDIOUS ALBION – Sorry about that Napoleon reference, but the ALBION COLLEGE BRITONS did battle with the BLUFFTON UNIVERSITY BEAVERS. The Britons came to dominate the game, ultimately parlaying their 14-6 opening Quarter lead into a 42-20 beatdown.
WE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME, BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT INSTEAD – This game pitted the (22) SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY RIVER HAWKS against their hosts the COLLEGE AT BROCKPORT GOLDEN EAGLES. At Halftime the score stood at 3-0 in favor of the River Hawks. Following a scoreless 3rd Quarter, Susquehanna ended the 4th by winning the game 6-5.
NJCAA DIVISION ONE
OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only other Upset in the NJCAA rankings came in the game between the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES and the home standing 13th ranked GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS. A 14-7 opening Quarter lead for the Apaches became 28-14 by the Half and 35-21 to start the 4th Quarter. Tyler College left the Bulldogs even further behind for a 52-28 victory.
ONE AND TWO ARE THREE AND 0 – The number 1 team in the nation – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – incinerated their hosts the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS 27-2 ### And the 2nd ranked IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS won 44-27 at the number 10 GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS.
ONE-POINT WONDER – In this game the CISCO COLLEGE WRANGLERS took the field against the visiting BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS. A tight 14-12 Halftime edge for the Wranglers was followed by a scoreless 3rd Quarter and ultimately an even tighter 20-19 win for Cisco College.
ROAD WARRIORS – The DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS traveled to face the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES and went back home with a 14-7 victory ### And the (14) NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry) won a 50-30 shootout at the (15) NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS.
NJCAA DIVISION THREE (no football in NJCAA2)
NUMBER ONE ROLLS – The top-ranked defending champions of NJCAA3 football – the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS – rolled out the unwelcome mat for the HOCKING COLLEGE HAWKS on Saturday. The Chaparrals folded, spindled and mutilated the hapless Hawks. When the dust settled, College of DuPage won 45-0.
“DON’T ANYBODY SCORE UNTIL THE FOURTH QUARTER” – Believe it or not, that was how things played out between the (4) ROCHESTER TECHNICAL COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS and the CENTRAL LAKES COLLEGE AT BRAINERD RAIDERS (should be the Brainstorms). Neither team notched a single point until the action-packed final frame, which ended in a 31-8 Yellow Jackets victory.
ROAD SHUTOUT – The MINNESOTA NORTH COLLEGE AT MESABI RANGE NORSE visited the MINNESOTA WEST TECH BLUE JAYS yesterday. The Norse converted a 7-0 1st Quarter lead into a 21-0 Halftime advantage and ultimately a 35-0 work of defensive perfection.
A THRILLER AND A BEATDOWN – The thriller saw the ERIE COLLEGE KATS come from behind in the 4th Quarter for a 27-24 win over the THADDEUS STEVENS TECH BULLDOGS ### And the beatdown was a brutal 44-6 victory for the LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS over the LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES.

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The (12) SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS won 14-10 at the (10) CERRITOS COLLEGE FALCONS ### Elsewhere, the (18) SIERRA COLLEGE WOLVERINES snuck past their hosts the (11) FRESNO CITY COLLEGE RAMS by a score of 28-27 ### And the (21) EAST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE HUSKIES defeated the (16) ALLAN HANCOCK COLLEGE BULLDOGS 25-20.
WORKING OVERTIME – The ANTELOPE VALLEY COLLEGE MARAUDERS welcomed the GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS. By the midpoint the Griffins held a 17-7 advantage but the Marauders forced OT with a 31-31 tie to end the 4th. In the extra session AVC won out 34-31.
ONE-POINT WONDER – This game pitted the COLLEGE OF THE DESERT ROADRUNNERS against the visiting SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CORSAIRS. The Roadrunners were chasing the Corsairs 21-19 at Halftime but were on top 40-38 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th, College of the Desert held on for a 46-45 victory.
BLOWOUTS – The SANTA ANA COLLEGE DONS clobbered their guests the LOS ANGELES SOUTHWEST COLLEGE COUGARS 41-16 ### And the PASADENA CITY COLLEGE LANCERS took it on the road against the WEST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE WILDCATS and made them their prison brides SEVENTY to THIRTEEN.
