COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM SEPTEMBER 7th

Balladeer’s Blog takes a look at some of last night’s results in the divisions covered here.

NCAA DIVISION TWO

emporia state with picDOWN GOES NUMBER FIVE – The 15th ranked EMPORIA STATE HORNETS paid a visit to the number 5 team in the nation – the NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS. The Bearcats were up 7-6 in the 1st Quarter but the Hornets went on top 13-7 by Halftime. From there Emporia State outscored Northwest Missouri State 20-6 for a 33-13 triumph.

Southern Arkansas Muleriders helmetFOUR QUARTERS WEREN’T ENOUGH – This game pitted the SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS against their hosts the EAST CENTRAL UNIVERSITY TIGERS. A scoreless opening Quarter was followed by a 17-0 Tigers advantage at the Half. The Muleriders rallied after the break, forcing Overtime with a 17-17 deadlock to end the 4th Quarter. In the extra session SAU won 24-17.

Pittsburg State GorillasROAD WARRIORS – The (3) PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS smacked down the FORT HAYS STATE TIGERS by a score of 40-14   ###   Meanwhile, the MISSOURI SOUTHERN STATE LIONS won a tighter 30-23 affair at the WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS   ###   And the FAIRMONT STATE FALCONS downed the WEST LIBERTY UNIVERSITY HILLTOPPERS 42-29.

mars hill u lionsANOTHER UPSET IN THE RANKINGS – The MARS HILL UNIVERSITY LIONS took the field against the visiting 17th ranked WINGATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS. Neither team scored in the 1st Quarter but the Bulldogs held a 10-0 advantage come Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter the Lions cut that lead to 10-3 before coming from behind in the 4th for a 15-10 victory.

west virginia state yellow jacketsUNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – In this game the WEST VIRGINIA STATE YELLOW JACKETS hosted the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT PEMBROKE BRAVES. By the midpoint the Braves were out in front 21-17. That became a mere 28-27 edge to end the 3rd Quarter before the Yellow Jackets eked out a 37-35 win in the 4th.

NCAA DIVISION THREE

Salve Regina Seahawks helmetTHE ONLY GAME IN TOWN – There was only one game in D3 last night and it was between the SALVE REGINA UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS and their guests the FRAMINGHAM STATE RAMS. The Seahawks led 14-0 in the opening Quarter and 17-0 at the break on their way to a 29-0 shutout victory.

copiah lincoln wolfpack biggerKNOCKING OFF NUMBER EIGHT – The COPIAH-LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK welcomed the country’s number 8 EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS. The Wolfpack seized a quick 10-0 1st Quarter lead before the Lions went on top 14-10 by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter saw Copiah-Lincoln make it a 14-13 game, then go on to Upset EMC in the 4th 23-20.

East Central Warriors helmetHAPPY HOME STANDS – The EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE WARRIORS utterly annihilated the COAHOMA COLLEGE TIGERS in a SIXTY-TWO to SEVEN laugher   ###   Elsewhere, the HOLMES COLLEGE BULLDOGS shut out the PEARL RIVER COLLEGE WILDCATS 31-0   ###   And the NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE TIGERS defeated the HINDS COLLEGE EAGLES 20-7.

jones college bobcatsRANKED AND ON THE ROAD – The number 6 team in the nation – the JONES COLLEGE BOBCATS – traveled to face the ITAWAMBA COLLEGE INDIANS yesterday. The Bobcats led 3-0 in the 1st Quarter and 13-0 at the Half. The Indians knotted things up at 13-13 in the 4th Quarter, but Jones College floored it for a 27-13 triumph.

Citrus College Owls helmetTHE OWLS ARE NOT WHAT THEY SEEM – The (15) CITRUS COLLEGE OWLS got in a gridiron grudge match with the visiting (23) COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS COUGARS and edged them 34-28    ###    And the FOOTHILL COLLEGE OWLS had a much easier time as they manhandled their guests the WEST HILLS COLLEGE AT COALINGA FALCONS 35-6.

Santa monica college corsairsUNDER THE RADAR CLASSIC – This game pitted the SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CORSAIRS against the VICTOR VALLEY COLLEGE RAMS. The Rams led 14-7 in the opening Quarter, but the Corsairs tied it at 14-14 by Halftime.  The 3rd Quarter ended with Santa Monica College up 24-21 before the 4th saw the Corsairs win out 31-28.

Monterey Peninsula LobosROAD WARRIORS – The MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS paid a visit to the YUBA COLLEGE FORTY-NINERS and went back home with a 22-6 victory   ###   The (19) PALOMAR COLLEGE COMETS won 31-23 at the MOORPARK COLLEGE RAIDERS   ###   And the (7) BUTTE COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS took a 23-20 Overtime affair at the (22) COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS GIANTS (should be Redwoods).
