THAT WAS NUMBER FIIIVE! – In the NAIA, the number 7 team in the nation – the INDIANA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY WILDCATS – traveled to face the 5th ranked MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. The focus was on defense as the Wildcats led by a mere 9-3 count at Halftime. After a scoreless 3rd Quarter, Indiana Wesleyan won out 17-10 in the 4th.
AND NUMBER SIX CAME TUMBLING AFTER – Staying in the NAIA for a moment, the 12th ranked BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS hosted the country’s number 6 team – the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS. The Threshers put the Moundbuilders on Upset Alert at the Half with a 14-13 edge, then outscored them from there 17-10 for a 31-23 win.
GETTING A JUMP ON THE WEEKEND – On Friday night NCAA Division 3’s ROWAN UNIVERSITY PROFS won a 23-21 Instant Classic against the visiting COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY LIONS ### And the NAIA’s DORDT UNIVERSITY DEFENDERS won 44-29 at the MOUNT MARTY UNIVERSITY LANCERS.
KNOCKING OFF NUMBER ONE – Down in the NJCAA, the TYLER COLLEGE APACHES took the field against the visiting number 1 defending National Champions – the NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry). The unranked Apaches stunned the NJCAA world with a riveting 20-12 Upset.
SEVENTY-TWO – In NCAA Division 2, the (5) SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY RAMS hosted the LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY BALD EAGLES. The Rams proceeded to reduce their opponents to their prison brides as they utterly dominated them on both sides of the ball in a SEVENTY-TWO to SEVEN wipeout.
USCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – In the United States Collegiate Athletic Association the WILLAMSON COLLEGE OF THE TRADES MECHANICS hosted the UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH PANTHERS (C). The Mechanics seized a 14-0 1st Quarter lead and never looked back enroute to a 63-35 victory.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The AVILA UNIVERSITY EAGLES (formerly the Avalanche) took it on the road against the 15th ranked KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES and upset them 18-14 ### And the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS logged a 36-31 road win over the number 16 SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS (should be Tomcats).
ONE-POINT WONDER – In this game the SAINT ANDREWS UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS welcomed the UNION COLLEGE BULLDOGS. A 10-7 Halftime edge for the Knights turned into a 20-19 Bulldogs lead to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th Saint Andrews U. came back for a 27-26 win.
ROAD WARRIORS – The UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES won 33-23 at the OTTAWA (KS) BRAVES ### Elsewhere the DICKINSON STATE BLUE HAWKS shut out their hosts the IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS 23-0 ### And the MID-AMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS ruined Homecoming for the CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES 27-13.

HAPPY HOMECOMING – The GENEVA COLLEGE GOLDEN TORNADOES welcomed the ALLEGHENY COLLEGE ALLIGATORS for Homecoming. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie became a 21-7 Golden Tornadoes lead by Halftime. Allegheny cut that to a 21-14 game to end the 3rd Quarter before Geneva College won out 35-14 in the 4th.
A DOUBLE SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – The STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS faced the visiting BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES. The Swedes were on top 13-10 at the Half but the Warriors forced Overtime with a 27-27 tie to end Regulation. The 1st OT resulted in a 34-34 deadlock but in the 2nd Sterling College snagged a 40-34 victory.
ARIZONA DEATH TRAP – It may be a dry heat but it’s a gridiron death trap. The OTTAWA UNIVERSITY (AZ) SPIRIT eviscerated the visiting TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS by a score of 56-0 and the ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM sent the LYON COLLEGE SCOTS home reeling from a 60-8 beatdown.

UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The only Upset in the D2 rankings on Saturday came from the game pitting the FROSTBURG STATE BOBCATS against the number 22 NOTRE DAME COLLEGE FALCONS (school motto: “No, not THAT Notre Dame.”). It took DOUBLE OVERTIME, but the Bobcats emerged with a 33-30 triumph.
ALL-NAME GAMES – The SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM won a 35-32 nail biter against the SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS ### Meanwhile the NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE RANGERS won 26-23 at the ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO BOLL WEEVILS ### And the INDIANA UNIVERSITY IN PENNSYLVANIA CRIMSON HAWKS downed their hosts the CALIFORNIA (PA) VULCANS 22-21.
OFF THE SCHNEID – The LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE BLUE BEARS picked up their first win for 2022 as they welcomed the WINSTON-SALEM STATE RAMS. The Blue Bears led 7-0 in the opening Quarter and 14-3 at Halftime. The Rams made it a 14-10 game in the 3rd Quarter but Livingstone College hung on for a 20-17 victory.
NCAA DIVISION THREE
UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The 17th ranked UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT RIVER FALLS FALCONS beat the visiting number 16 UW-OSHKOSH TITANS 27-24. And the WITTENBERG UNIVERSITY TIGERS managed a 30-7 road knockoff of the 25th ranked DEPAUW UNIVERSITY TIGERS.
ONE OVERTIME WASN’T ENOUGH – In this game the MUSKINGUM UNIVERSITY MUSKIES held serve against the OTTERBEIN COLLEGE CARDINALS. The score was 7-7 come Halftime and 28-28 to end the 4th Quarter. The 1st OT ended in a 35-35 tie but the 2nd saw the Muskies win 41-35.
ROAD CLASSICS – The WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS paid a visit to the WESTMINSTER COLLEGE TITANS and won a 17-14 squeaker ### The BATES COLLEGE BOBCATS won 27-23 at the AMHERST COLLEGE MAMMOTHS ### And the CROWN COLLEGE POLARS defeated their hosts the MARTIN LUTHER COLLEGE KNIGHTS 26-20.
NJCAA
TWO AND THREE ROLL – The (2) HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS visited the DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS and dismembered them to the tune of 47-14. And the (3) IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS played host to the (6) SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS and defeated them 26-0.
SOMEONE’S “O” HAD TO GO – Two winless teams – the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES and the ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS – fought it out at Highland. A 20-10 1st Quarter lead for the Panthers remained unchanged at Halftime, but the Scotties cut that to a 27-23 advantage to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th Highland College came from behind to win the game 37-27.
ODD GAMES – The NASSAU COUNTY COLLEGE LIONS won an unusual 20-9 battle with the visiting ERIE COLLEGE KATS. And the CISCO COLLEGE WRANGLERS won a VERY defense-oriented game at the NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN 7-6.
