WHITELAW BOWL – The 2017 edition of the Scotty Whitelaw Bowl pitted the ITHACA COLLEGE BOMBERS against the SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS. The two teams were tied 7-7 after 1 Quarter of play but the Sea Gulls were on top 10-7 by Halftime. That had become a 17-7 advantage as the 4th Quarter started. From there the Bombers came alive for TWENTY unanswered points to win the game 27-17.
LYNAH BOWL – The ALFRED UNIVERSITY SAXONS battled the STEVENSON UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS in the James Lynah Bowl. The Mustangs grabbed a quick 3-0 1st Quarter edge but by the break the Saxons held a 21-3 lead. In the 2nd Half Alfred University kept their opponents at arm’s length for a 29-16 victory.
NEW YORK BOWL – The very first New York Bowl presented a team from the Empire 8 Conference – the CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS – against a team from the Liberty League – the UNION COLLEGE DUTCHMEN. The Red Dragons dominated early, leading the Dutchmen 14-7 in the 1st Quarter and 28-7 at the Half. Union College came roaring back, however, causing Cortland State to hold on for a 35-28 triumph.
NEW ENGLAND BOWL: GAME ONE – The WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS made their first-ever Bowl appearance against the MARITIME COLLEGE PRIVATEERS. After a scoreless opening Quarter the Engineers took a 10-0 lead by Halftime. Worcester Polytechnic’s defense gave up nothing but a Field Goal in the 4th Quarter as the Engineers defeated the Privateers 17-3.
CENTENNIAL-MAC BOWL: GAME ONE – This Bowl Double Header pitted a team from the Centennial Conference – in this case the FRANKLIN & MARSHALL COLLEGE DIPLOMATS – against a team from the MIDDLE ATLANTIC CONFERENCE – in this case the WIDENER UNIVERSITY PRIDE. The Diplomats led the Pride all the way, being on top 7-0 in the 1st Quarter and 14-7 in the 2nd on their way to a 21-7 win.
CHAPMAN BOWL – The MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS found themselves taking on the BUFFALO STATE BENGALS in the Clayton Chapman Bowl. After a 7-7 1st Quarter tie the Mariners went on top of the Bengals 20-7. From there the Merchant Marine Academy squeezed out a little bit more separation for a 35-20 victory.
CENTENNIAL-MAC BOWL: GAME TWO – This battle saw the Centennial Conference rep – the SUSQUEHANNA UNIVERSITY RIVER HAWKS – facing the MAC’s ALBRIGHT COLLEGE LIONS. In a tale of two Halves a 7-7 tie at the midpoint became a 21-9 River Hawks lead in the 3rd Quarter and ultimately a 28-9 triumph. This was SU’s first post-season appearance since 1991.
BUSHNELL BOWL – In this year’s Asa Bushnell Bowl the MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES took the field against the CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY TARTANS. The Tartans got off to a quick 3-0 edge but wound up chasing the Mules the rest of the way. Muhlenberg College led 10-3 at Halftime and 17-6 in the 3rd Quarter enroute to a 32-6 blowout.
NEW ENGLAND BOWL: GAME TWO – The FRAMINGHAM STATE RAMS squared off against the CURRY COLLEGE COLONELS in the second game of the Double Header. The Rams dominated the Colonels in every way on both sides of the ball. A 34-7 Halftime lead for Framingham State ended up as an easy 48-14 triumph as the Rams won a New England Bowl matchup for the 2nd year in a row.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BOWL – This Bowl pitted the SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS against the SANTA ANA COLLEGE DONS (as in Old California Dons). A Jekyll and Hyde tale of two Halves was the result as the Olympians led 14-0 in the 1st Quarter and 37-13 by the break. After that the Dons shut out San Diego Mesa College while putting up 21 more points themselves. The Olympians held on by the skin of their teeth to win it 37-34.
AMERICAN DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP BOWL – The SHASTA COLLEGE KNIGHTS faced the MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS in this Bowl. The back and forth affair saw the Lobos on top 12-3 to end the opening Quarter but by Halftime the Knights had seized an 18-12 advantage. Regulation ended in a 38-38 tie with Shasta College emerging with a 45-38 Overtime victory.
BEACH BOWL – This Bowl on the beach was played between the EL CAMINO COLLEGE WARRIORS and the PALOMAR COLLEGE COMETS. The Warriors had pulled out to a 21-7 Halftime lead but after a scoreless 3rd Quarter the Comets made a tight game of it. The final tally was El Camino College 28 Palomar College 21.
WESTERN STATE BOWL – The COLLEGE OF THE CANYONS COUGARS did battle with the storied MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES. A scoreless 1st Quarter was followed by the Cougars grabbing a 14-7 advantage at the break. From there College of the Canyons got more and more separation from the Mounties, ultimately winning the game 28-16.
