DOWN GOES NUMBER THREE – The 14th ranked BLINN COLLEGE BUCCANEERS welcomed the number 3 team in the nation – the TRINITY VALLEY COLLEGE CARDINALS – on Saturday. The Buccaneers and Cardinals were tied 14-14 in the 1st Quarter but Blinn College grabbed a 24-17 lead by Halftime. A 24-24 tie to end the 3rd Quarter ultimately became a 31-27 triumph for the Buccaneers, who are still unbeaten for 2017.
AND NUMBER FOUR COMES TUMBLING AFTER – The BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES battled the 4th ranked IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS. A 14-0 1st Quarter lead for the Grizzlies was cut to a mere 14-13 edge by the break. Butler College made it a 21-13 game in the 3rd Quarter, with the Reivers scoring a Touchdown in the 4th but missing the 2-point conversion attempt. The Grizzlies won it 21-19.
HUTCH EDGES THE DEFENDING CHAMPS – The storied HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS took it on the road against the Defending National Champions – the number 11 GARDEN CITY COLLEGE BRONCBUSTERS. The opening Quarter ended in a 7-7 tie with the Blue Dragons on top 14-7 at Halftime. Hutchinson College led the Broncbusters 28-21 to start the 4th Quarter and from there held on for a 31-28 road upset.
OTHER UPSETS IN THE RANKINGS – The ITAWAMBA COLLEGE INDIANS knocked off the (5) NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI RANGERS in a 27-24 Instant Classic ### Meanwhile the (10) SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS visited the (6) MESA COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS and slapped them down 59-36 ### And the MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST BULLDOGS downed their hosts the (13) COPIAH-LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK by a score of 21-14.
WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (7) TYLER COLLEGE APACHES traveled to take on the (15) NORTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA A&M GOLDEN NORSEMEN. A 17-9 Halftime advantage for the Apaches over the Golden Norsemen became a 27-15 lead in the 3rd and ultimately a 34-28 victory for unbeaten Tyler College.
SHUTOUTS – The EASTERN ARIZONA COLLEGE GILA MONSTERS (how could you NOT love that name) folded, spindled and mutilated the LAS CRUCES KINGS in a FIFTY-NINE to NOTHING laugher ### And the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES registered a 34-0 road shutout of the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS.
A DOUBLE SHOT OF THAT O.T. LOVE – The (18) GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS played host to the ASA COLLEGE AVENGERS. Neither team scored in the 1st Quarter and the score was knotted up at 7-7 at by the midpoint of the game. The Avengers led 17-14 to end the 3rd Quarter but in the 4th the Bulldogs tied things up at 24-24 to force Overtime.
The 1st OT session ended in a 31-31 deadlock. In the 2nd ASA College made it 38-31 but Georgia Military nailed a Touchdown AND a 2 point conversion to win it 39-38. ”
THE RUCKUS IN ROSWELL – The NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE BRONCOS (should be the Cavalry) welcomed the ARKANSAS BAPTIST COLLEGE BUFFALOES. The Broncos kept the Buffaloes off the scoreboard til the 4th Quarter, leading the game 14-0 at Halftime and improving to 2-2 for the season with a 35-6 triumph.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The MESABI RANGE COLLEGE NORSE battled the ITASCA COLLEGE VIKINGS and edged them 33-28 ### The MINNESOTA TECH SPARTANS won a 38-35 game with the MINNESOTA WEST BLUE JAYS ### And the ERIE COLLEGE KATS overcame the UTICA COLLEGE PIONEERS in their own house by a score of 28-21.
THE COOLER-NAMED TEAM WINS – The (19) DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS visited the ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS and won a thrilling 36-30 affair ### And the DAKOTA COLLEGE AT BOTTINEAU LUMBERJACKS were on the road against the NORTHLAND COLLEGE PIONEERS. Despite just a 28-26 edge at the break, the Lumberjacks won the game 48-39.
BLOWOUTS – The (9) LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS took the field against their guests the NEW JERSEY WARRIORS and proceeded to clobber them to the tune of 56-14 ### Meanwhile the KILGORE COLLEGE RANGERS crushed the home-standing CISCO COLLEGE WRANGLERS 41-13 ### And the PHOENIX COLLEGE BEARS absolutely mauled the GLENDALE COLLEGE GAUCHOS 55-22 in their own house.
WHEN COOL-NAMED TEAMS CLASH – This game pitted the SCOTTSDALE COLLEGE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES against the PIMA COLLEGE AZTECS. The Aztecs managed a quick 7-3 lead in the opening Quarter but the Fighting Artichokes roared back for a 17-3 by Halftime. That became a 31-21 Scottsdale advantage in the 3rd Quarter and finally a 34-21 triumph for the Fighting Artichokes.
