ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY RULES THE WORLD – Several times a year NAIA football teams manage upsets of teams from NCAA Division TWO! Yesterday saw multiple instances, too, like the ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM battling the Division 2 SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY CLAN (as in Scottish Clan). The Firestorm won this Instant Classic by a final score of 34-28.
TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TOPPLES D2 AS WELL – For newbies to these divisions these NAIA over NCAA Division 2 upsets are like when 1AA teams upset 1A teams. In this game the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS did battle with D2’s MALONE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS. Spectators got more than their money’s worth in this matchup, too, which saw the Trojans emerge with a 28-21 victory.
LANGSTON CRUSHES DIVISION TWO – The NAIA’s LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS took on NCAA Division Two’s LINCOLN (MO) UNIVERSITY BLUE TIGERS in The LU Classic. The Lions dominated the Blue Tigers on both sides of the ball, defeating them 30-14 in their own house. REMEMBER: Any wins over D2 teams count as 2 wins each in my weekly NAIA vs NCAA Division Three tally.
NUMBER THREE GOES DOWN – And speaking of Division Three, the ILLINOIS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TITANS hosted the number 3 team in the nation: the storied UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT WHITEWATER WARHAWKS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Titans took a 7-3 edge by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended in a 10-10 tie, but Illinois Wesleyan University went on to bring down the Warhawks 17-10.
VIRGINIA STATE RULES THE WORLD – The NCAA Division Two team the VIRGINIA STATE TROJANS traveled to take on NCAA Division 1A’s NORFOLK STATE SPARTANS. This one was truly an old-school game for the ages, and when all was said and done the Trojans triumphed over the Spartans by a final tally of 14-10.
NINETY-EIGHT – The SAINT JOHN’S UNIVERSITY JOHNNIES played host to the COLLEGE OF SAINT SCHOLASTICA SAINTS yesterday and utterly annihilated them. The Johnnies grabbed a quick 28-0 lead in the 1st Quarter and never looked back. In the end Saint John’s University triumphed by a count of NINETY-EIGHT to NOTHING. Nearly every skill player from the Johnnies notched at least one Touchdown.
SUL ROSS STATE OVER DIVISION TWO – The NCAA D3 team the SUL ROSS STATE LOBOS managed one of these double-count victories for their division. The Lobos were on the road against Division Two’s UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT PERMIAN BASIN FALCONS. Sul Ross State manhandled the Falcons to the tune of 47-22.

NAIA OVER D3 – The SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS manhandled the HOWARD PAYNE UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS to the tune of 63-34 ### Meanwhile the TRINITY INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TROJANS notched a 58-21 road win over the WISCONSIN LUTHERAN COLLEGE WARRIORS ### And the PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS clobbered their hosts the LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY VIKINGS 40-10.
D3 OVER NAIA – The AUSTIN COLLEGE KANGAROOS beat the BACONE COLLEGE WARRIORS 31-18 ### The (7) NORTH CENTRAL CARDINALS eked out a 33-31 victory over the ROBERT MORRIS (IL) UNIVERSITY EAGLES ### The LOUISIANA COLLEGE WILDCATS topped the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS 59-20 ### And the HENDRIX COLLEGE WARRIORS doubled up on the LYON COLLEGE SCOTS 56-28.

USCAA OVER D3 – The USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) team the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS hosted D3’s GREENSBORO COLLEGE PRIDE. The Builders (formerly the Shipbuilders) folded, spindled and mutilated the Pride by a count of THIRTY-NINE to SEVEN.
D3 OVER USCAA – The D3 team the CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS took it on the road against the SOUTHERN VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY K3NIGHTS and handed them a 45-17 beatdown. ### And the CORNELL (IA) COLLEGE RAMS hosted the USCAA’s IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS, crushing them 62-25.

UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The (25) SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS toppled the visiting number 7 team the EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS. The Raiders won it 31-21. ### And the (23) WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN took it on the road against the (12) MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS and handed them a 27-21 loss.
DORM WARS – These “Dorm Wars” were a high-spirited but fun event centered around a game between the SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES and the visiting DAKOTA STATE TROJANS. Fans were treated to an Instant Classic as the Fighting Bees proceeded to win the game by a final tally of 27-24.
WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (11) DOANE COLLEGE TIGERS were on the road against the (14) STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS and went back home with a 34-28 victory in this nail-biter. ### And the (2) BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS improved to 2-0 as they defeated the (9) GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS 48-41 in their own house.
THE KCAC- GPAC CHALLENGE – Yesterday’s winners in the KCAC (Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference): The BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES defeated the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS 36-23 ### Meanwhile the (20) KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES clobbered the CONCORDIA (NE) BULLDOGS 28-13 ### And the MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS mauled the TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS to the tune of 43-14.
THE GPAC-KCAC CHALLENGE – Winners in the GPAC (Great Plains Athletic Conference): The DORDT COLLEGE DEFENDERS obliterated their hosts the BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS in a 44-10 laugher ### The MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS won 29-24 at the FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS ### The NORTHWESTERN (IA) RED RAIDERS spanked the OTTAWA (KS) BRAVES 41-16 in their own house ### And the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS visited the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS and beat them 52-35.
ROAD TIGERS – The OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS traveled to face the LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY AT BELLEVILLE LYNX and routed them 39-14 ### And the CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS found themselves on the road against the POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS, emerging with a 51-33 victory.
NEWBIES LOSE AGAIN – The new football teams in the NAIA lost again this week. Besides Texas Wesleyan’s loss the (3) REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Rottweilers) eviscerated their hosts, the new CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES 53-7 ### And the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL WARRIORS won a very odd 3-0 against the new SAINT ANDREWS UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS.

UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The (6) TEXAS A&M AT COMMERCE LIONS visited the number 5 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH ALABAMA LIONS – and eked out an 8-7 win in a Defensive Epic. ### And the ALBANY STATE GOLDEN RAMS welcomed the (13) VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS, sending them home with a 29-12 loss.
HILLSDALE GREATNESS – The HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS were on the road against the MERCYHURST UNIVERSITY LAKERS to start the season. After a 3-3 1st Quarter tie the Chargers went on top 12-3 by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter ended with a 19-11 Hillsdale lead, which was also the final score as nobody scored in the 4th.
A DOUBLE SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – The BLACK HILLS STATE YELLOW JACKETS welcomed the ADAMS STATE GRIZZLIES yesterday. Four Quarters wasn’t enough for these two teams, and after 1 Overtime session the score was knotted up again at 41-41. The Yellow Jackets held the Grizzlies scoreless in Double Overtime, then managed a Touchdown for a 47-41 triumph.
RIVALRY RESCHEDULED – With D2’s TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY GOLDEN TIGERS reaching the playoffs more and more frequently their Thanksgiving Day rivalry game against the Division 1A team the ALABAMA STATE HORNETS had fallen by the wayside. The institutions have wisely moved it to the opening game of the year, with 2017’s edition being won by the Golden Tigers in a 14-6 nailbiter.
BATTLES OF COOL-NAMED TEAMS – The UNIVERSITY OF WEST FLORIDA ARGONAUTS were on the road against the MISSOURI S&T MINERS and won a 20-16 game for the ages. ### And the PACE UNIVERSITY SETTERS (Irish Setters) defeated the visiting MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY MARAUDERS 28-20.
MEXICO LOSES AGAIN – The HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACKS welcomed Mexico’s CETYS UNIVERSITY ZORROS to the Redwood Bowl. The Zorros are still trying to become the NCAA’s first team from Mexico, a long overdue move since Canadian teams have been in the NCAA and NAIA for years. The Lumberjacks chopped up CETYS by a score of EIGHTY-THREE to FOURTEEN.

UPSETS IN THE TOP FIFTEEN – The (20) DELAWARE VALLEY COLLEGE AGGIES toppled the visiting (11) WESLEY COLLEGE WOLVERINES by a final score of 24-19. ### And THE COLLEGE AT BROCKPORT GOLDEN EAGLES struck down their hosts the (14) HOBART COLLEGE STATESMEN 34-20.
UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS upset the (23) ST JOHN FISHER COLLEGE CARDINALS 37-27 ### And the SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE PRIDE traveled to get a 35-21 road win over the (24) WESTERN NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE GOLDEN BEARS.
WORKING OVERTIME – The UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT STEVENS POINT POINTERS prevailed in Overtime against the SAINT NORBERT COLLEGE GREEN KNIGHTS. A missed Extra Point gave the Pointers a 34-33 win. ### And the (13) JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUE JAYS won a 32-29 Overtime battle with the WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS.
WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (4) UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN AT OSHKOSH TITANS visited the (8) JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY BLUE STREAKS and won a 23-17 Instant Classic. ### And the (17) FROSTBURG STATE BOBCATS demolished their guests the (18) STEVENSON UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS to the tune of 33-7.
DOES FIRE BURN DEVILS? – The KNOX COLLEGE PRAIRIE FIRE took it on the road to face the EUREKA COLLEGE RED DEVILS. After a 7-7 tie in the 1st Quarter the Red Devils went on top 14-7 by the Half. From there a 21-21 deadlock ended the 3rd Quarter before the Prairie Fire won it in the 4th 28-21.
WE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – The ROWAN UNIVERSITY PROFS hosted the WIDENER UNIVERSITY PRIDE in this game. The Profs put up a Field Goal in the 1st Quarter and another in the 3rd but that was the extent of the offense in this defensive epic. Rowan University emerged with a 6-0 shutout victory.
