Indianapolis Greyhounds helmetNUMBER THREE GETS KNOCKED OFF – In D2 the UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS welcomed the number 3 team in the nation – the GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS. The dynastic Lakers appeared to be in the driver’s seat with a 13-0 1st Quarter lead, but by Halftime the Greyhounds had made it a 13-10 game.

After the break the University of Indianapolis went on top 17-13 and in the 4th Quarter the teams exchanged Touchdowns, giving the Greyhounds a 24-20 victory. 

saint-xavier-cougars-helmet-newAND NUMBER FIVE CAME TUMBLING AFTER – Over in the NAIA the 24th ranked SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS clashed with the nation’s number 5 team – the MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. A 1st Quarter 6-0 edge for the Cougars turned into a commanding 26-7 lead by the Half.

From there Saint Xavier University had to hold on tight to withstand a furious Knights rally 32-27. SXU Quarterback Justin Hunniford passed for 425 yds with 2 TDs through the air and 2 by ground. 

Oklahoma Panhandle State helmetOUR DIVISION CAN BEAT UP YOUR DIVISION – 2017’s first round of NAIA football vs NCAA Division 3 football resulted in a split.

The NAIA’s OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES (should be the Okies) shut out NCAA Div 3’s MCMURRY UNIVERSITY WARHAWKS 10-0.    ###   Meanwhile D3’s BUENA VISTA UNIVERSITY BEAVERS won a 31-27 Instant Classic against the visiting NAIA team the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS.

Millikin Big Blue HelmetSPIRIT OF ’76 – The MILLIKIN UNIVERSITY BIG BLUE were all about scoring AND patriotism last night. The Big Blue hosted the GREENVILLE COLLEGE PANTHERS and proceeded to utterly annihilate them.

The 1st Quarter ended with Millikin University on top 27-0 and things just got more lopsided from there. When all was said and done the Big Blue won it by a final count of SEVENTY-SIX to THREE!

Montana Tech OrediggersOREDIGGERS KICK BUTTE – The number 6 team in the nation – the MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS out of Butte, MT, hosted the Hellions From Helena: the CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS. This Frontier Conference battle was a showcase for the Orediggers in almost every way. Montana Tech authoritatively beat Carroll College by a score of 45-28.

Concordia_MIROAD WARRIORS – The CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS found themselves on the road against the DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS. The state of Michigan saw the Cardinals announce themselves for 2017 as a true contender. Concordia smacked around the feisty Panthers to the tune of 25-6.  


HELMET Sioux FallsUPSETS IN THE TOP TEN – The 15th ranked UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS COUGARS visited the number 8 UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AT DULUTH BULLDOGS. The Cougars shocked the home crowd by handing the Bulldogs a 25-7 smackdown.    ###    And the HENDERSON STATE REDDIES notched a 28-20 road upset of the 10th ranked HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON.

Winona StateUPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – The WINONA STATE WARRIORS welcomed the (17) BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS and toppled them 30-20.    ###    Meanwhile the WINSTON-SALEM STATE RAMS traveled to take down the (23) UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT PEMBROKE BRAVES in a 34-31 thriller.    ###    And the ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS surprised the visiting (24) SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS 28-21.

Highland CavaliersWISE GUYS, EH? – The UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA AT WISE HIGHLAND CAVALIERS played at the GLENVILLE STATE PIONEERS last night. A 9-0 Pioneers lead to end the 1st Quarter became instead a 24-16 advantage for the Highland Cavaliers by Halftime. After the break UVA-Wise got some more separation, leading 34-23 in the 3rd Quarter and winning the game by a final count of 41-29.

Southeastern Oklahoma Savage StormSTORM FRONT – This game pitted the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM against the home-standing SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM. The Savage Storm led the Crimson Storm by a score of 14-0 in the opening Quarter and by the break held a commanding 42-0 advantage. From there Southeastern Oklahoma State coasted to a FIFTY-EIGHT to NOTHING triumph. 

Central MissouriBATTLES OF COOL-NAMED TEAMS – The (20) UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES sent the PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS back home after beating them 28-23.    ###    And the (12) COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDER WOLVES crushed the visiting (21) COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES OREDIGGERS to the tune of 38-7.
