COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM AUGUST 26th

*** HEADLINES ***

Benedictine RavensNUMBER TWELVE TAKES A FALL – The BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS hosted the number 12 team in the nation – the MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS. The Vikings managed a 7-0 lead in the 1st Quarter but the Ravens exploded for 21 points in the 2nd Quarter to take a 21-7 lead by Halftime.

The 3rd Quarter ended with Missouri Valley College trailing just 21-17. To the delight of the home crowd Benedictine College had ANOTHER 21 point Quarter in the 4th for a 42-17 smackdown of the Vikings. QB Shaefer Schuetz of the Ravens threw for 309 yds and 4 Touchdowns.  

Baker U Wildcats helmetWHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – Also in the NAIA the 2nd ranked BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS took the field against the visiting number 23 WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN. The teams went blow-for-blow in a 7-7 1st Quarter but the Wildcats eked out a 10-7 edge at the Half.  

That became a 19-7 lead in the 3rd before an action-packed 4th Quarter saw 32 points scored! Baker University held on for a 31-27 win over the Statesmen. WR Cornell Brown had 105 receiving yards and 2 TDs for the Wildcats. 

Ave Maria University Gyrenes helmet NEWTWO NEW TEAMS HIT THE GRIDIRON – Two new NAIA football squads played their inaugural games yesterday. Both lost.

The AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES played Road Warriors against the *NEW* CINCINNATI CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES, defeating them 36-21. And the (8) LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS hosted the *NEW* SAINT ANDREWS UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS, spanking them 43-7.

Morningside MustangsRANKED TEAMS ROLLING – The (4) MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS won a 41-24 road battle with the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS.   ###    Meanwhile the (13) ROBERT MORRIS UNIVERSITY (IL) EAGLES welcomed the BACONE COLLEGE WARRIORS and handed them a 22-7 smackdown.    ###    And the (16) SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE folded, spindled and mutilated their hosts the UNION (KY) BULLDOGS to the tune of SIXTY-TWO to TWENTY-ONE.

Lyon College ScotsIF IT ISN’T SCOTTISH IT’S CRAAAAAP! – The LYON COLLEGE SCOTS, the Scottish Notre Dame,  took the field against their guests, the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS. The Scots kept the Spartans off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter while piling up 7 points in the 1st and 2nd Quarters, then 14 more in the 3rd. Lyon College won it 28-7 led by Quarterback Cody Jones.  

Cumberland BulldogsTHE PHOENIX RISING – The CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX traveled to take on the BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS yesterday. The Phoenix trailed the Rambling Rams 7-0 to end the opening Quarter and 10-7 at the break. Cumberland University shut out Bluefield College in the 3rd Quarter while exploding for 17 points themselves. In the end the Phoenix triumphed by a count of 24-17. QB Dezmon Huntley had one TD through the air and one on the ground in the win. 

Saint Mary SpiresBLOWOUTS – The UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES hosted the TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE LIONS and proceeded to annihilate them. The Spires sent the Lions home reeling from a FORTY-NINE to NOTHING loss.    ###    Meanwhile the FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES eviscerated the home-standing  KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS to the tune of SIXTY-THREE to EIGHT.    ###    And the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS spanked the UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES 31-3 in their own house.  

Montana Western helmetUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The (19) UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS snuck past the visiting COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES by a final count of 16-14    ###    The BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS won a 19-13 home catfight against the EDWARD WATERS (FL) TIGERS    ###    And the OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS showed it was a bad day to be a team called Coyotes as they beat the (20) KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES 31-24.   

Point University good helmetDEFENSIVE EPIC – The POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS took it on the road against the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS to start their 2017 campaign. Points were at a premium in this game of dueling defenses. The Skyhawks trailed the Warriors 7-0 at the end of the 1st Half but tied things up at 7-7 in the 3rd Quarter. After a weather delay in the 4th, Point University put up a Field Goal to defeat Webber International 10-7.

Central Methodist University Eagles helmet NEWHALL OF FAME SHUTOUT – It was Hall of Fame Weekend for the CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES as they played the CULVER-STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS. The Eagles dominated the Wildcats on both sides of the ball in this thoroughly one-sided game. When all was said and done Central Methodist University had triumphed in a THIRTY-ONE to NOTHING laugher.   

Waldorf Warriors helmetCOMMUNITY NIGHT MASSACRE – The WALDORF COLLEGE WARRIORS were marking Community Night in a game welcoming the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS. The Warriors were united by a communal feeling of butt-kicking as they absolutely manhandled the Chargers. Waldorf College did their fellow Iowans proud as they blew out Briar Cliff University by a final score of 62-26.

Peru_St_NE_OLD3OKAY AT THE OAK BOWL – The PERU STATE BOBCATS opened up 2017 hosting the AVILA UNIVERSITY EAGLES (formerly the Avalanche). The Oak Bowl spectators were a bit apprehensive as the Eagles managed a 7-0 lead late in the 1st Quarter. The Bobcats knotted things up at 7-7 by Halftime, then squeezed out a 10-7 edge in the 3rd Quarter. In an action-packed 4th Quarter Peru State outscored Avila University 21-7 for a 31-14 victory.
