DAY TWO, GAME ONE: The 3 seeds – the WRIGHT STATE AT THE LAKE CAMPUS LAKERS – played an elimination game against the 7th seeded PENN STATE AT MONT ALTO LIONS. A 2-0 1st Inning lead for the Lakers became a 6-2 advantage in the 3rd.
The 4th Inning ended with Wright State at the Lake on top of the Lions 7-3 but in the 5th PSU-Mont Alto batted in 4 runs to knot things up at 7-7. The Lakers notched what turned out to be the winning run in the 6th Inning, eliminating the Lions in an 8-7 nailbiter. Carson Schuman pitched for the win.
DAY TWO, GAME TWO – The 4th seeded NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS (Shipbuilders) battled the top seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI AT CLERMONT COUGARS in this game. After 2 scoreless Innings the Builders managed a 1-0 edge over the Cougars in the 3rd.
From there the Pitcher’s Duel resumed, with Newport News Apprentice School driving in the final run of the game in the 7th Inning to hand UC-Clermont a 2-0 loss. Pitcher Robbie Watkins was on the mound for the entire game for the Builders.
DAY TWO, GAME THREE: This game pitted the 5 seeds – the CLEARY UNIVERSITY PROWLING COUGARS – against the 9th seeded CENTRAL PENN COLLEGE SILVER KNIGHTS. The Prowling Cougars kept Central Penn College off the scoreboard for most of the game as they compiled a 1-0 lead in the 1st Inning, 4-0 in the 3rd, 5-0 in the 4th and 7-0 in the 6th.
The Silver Knights at last got in the game in the 7th Inning, putting up 3 runs but no more runs for either team were added from there. Cleary University won it by a final tally of 7-3. Payton Tyndall got the Win for the Prowling Cougars.
DAY TWO, GAME FOUR – Up next the 2nd seeded COLLEGE OF SAINT JOSEPH’S (sic) FIGHTING SAINTS faced the 6 seeds – the PENN STATE AT DUBOIS NITTANY LIONS. A 1-1 deadlock in the 1st Inning became a 3-1 advantage for the Fighting Saints in the 2nd.
The 4th Inning saw the Nittany Lions add on a run to make it a 3-2 game but what nobody knew was that that would be the last run scored in the game. The College of Saint Joseph’s Pitcher Russ Krebs is the one who threw for the W.
DAY TWO, GAME FIVE: The (3) WRIGHT STATE AT THE LAKE CAMPUS LAKERS took the diamond against the (10) MARYGROVE COLLEGE MUSTANGS. The Lakers did not forget the Upset they suffered at the hands (hooves?) of the Mustangs yesterday and were out for revenge.
The 1st Inning ended in a 1-0 lead for Wright State at the Lake but that became a 5-0 advantage in the 2nd Inning and the rout was on. The Lakers showed no mercy on either side of the ball and eliminated Marygrove College in a TEN to NOTHING shutout. Casey Grimm was the triumphant Pitcher.
DAY TWO, GAME SIX: The 5 seeds – the CLEARY UNIVERSITY PROWLING COUGARS – squared off against the 8th seeded BLUEFIELD STATE BIG BLUES. The Big Blues grabbed a 2-0 1st Inning lead to put Cleary University on notice but the Prowling Cougars responded by taking a 3-2 edge in the 2nd.
The 3rd Inning ended with Bluefield State back on top 7-5 and that became an 8-6 advantage after the teams exchanged 1 run apiece in the 4th. From there Cleary U added 3 more runs in the 5th Inning and the teams put up 1 run each in the 7th. The end result was a tight 10-9 victory for the Prowling Cougars behind Pitcher Drew Bergstrom.
*** NAIA PLAYOFFS ***
BELLEVUE BRACKET, DAY TWO: The 2 seeds – the UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS – clashed with the top seeded BELLEVUE UNIVERSITY BRUINS. The Drovers dominated from start to finish in this game, eviscerating the stunned Bruins by a score of FIFTEEN to FOUR!
Meanwhile, the 3rd seeded DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS survived a 6-5 elimination game against the 5th seeded JUDSON UNIVERSITY EAGLES.
HATTIESBURG BRACKET, DAY TWO: The bracket’s 2nd seeded TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS played in not one but TWO elimination games after falling on Day One. First up the Rams bounced the (5) LSU-ALEXANDRIA GENERALS 5-1, then clobbered the (4) LYON COLLEGE SCOTS in a 9-1 affair.
And the (1) SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE stayed perfect in bracket play with a 5-2 victory over the (3) WILLIAM CAREY UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS.
HUTCHINSON BRACKET, DAY TWO: The 3rd seeded TABOR COLLEGE BLUEJAYS were in the same spot as TWU. In their first elimination game the Bluejays sent the (4) UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES home with a 9-5 loss. Up next Tabor College edged the (5) CONCORDIA (NE) BULLDOGS by a Polo Score of 12-11.
Meanwhile the (2) MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS upset the (1) CLARKE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS by a final score of 13-9.
LAWRENCEVILLE BRACKET, DAY TWO: The 5 seeds – the LSU-SHREVEPORT PILOTS (Riverboat Pilots) eliminated the (3) CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES in a thrilling 6-4 battle. After that, however, the Pilots got torn limb from limb by the (1) GEORGIA GWINNETT COLLEGE GRIZZLIES to the tune of TWENTY to TWO!
And in the 4 spot THE MASTER’S UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS prevailed over the (2) WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS by a Polo Score of 14-12.
LIMA BRACKET, DAY TWO: The 2nd seeded MIDDLE GEORGIA STATE KNIGHTS faced the gauntlet of elimination games in this bracket. First the Knights won a 14-13 shootout against the (5) MIDWAY UNIVERSITY EAGLES, and then they proceeded to bounce the (4) MIDAMERICA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS.
Meanwhile the (3) HOPE INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY ROYALS defeated the top seeded UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN OHIO RACERS in a 17-7 upset.
OKLAHOMA CITY BRACKET, DAY TWO: The 5 seeds – the COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES – upset the (2) MAYVILLE STATE COMETS, sending them home with a 4-2 victory. Next the Coyotes fell to the (4) FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS by a score of 10-5.
And the (1) OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY STARS folded, spindled and mutilated the (3) CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS to the tune of NINETEEN to FIVE!
BARTLESVILLE BRACKET, DAY TWO: The 3rd seeded BRYAN COLLEGE LIONS did battle with the (5) SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES and spanked them 12-2. In the late game they suffered some corporal punishment themselves at the hands of the (4) MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS, falling to them 20-10.
Meanwhile the (1) OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES won Polo-like 15-14 shootout with the (2) INDIANA TECH WARRIORS (should be the Hoplites).
KINGSPORT BRACKET, DAY TWO: The top seeds – the KEISER UNIVERSITY SEAHAWKS – took on the (3) INDIANA UNIVERSITY SOUTHEAST GRENADIERS. The Seahawks manhandled the Grenadiers by a count of 7-1.
And the (2) TENNESSEE WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS won a pair of elimination games, beating the (4) TALLADEGA COLLEGE TORNADOES in a 5-3 contest then sneaking by the (5) MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS 8-7.
MONTGOMERY BRACKET, DAY TWO: The 4th seeded UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS stayed alive with a 9-7 elimination game upset of the (2) SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS. Those same Patriots then fell to the (5) TRUETT MCCONNELL COLLEGE BEARS in a 3-1 upset.
Meanwhile the (1) FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES (should be the Furies) shut out the (3) HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY FORESTERS 3-0.
