Orchard Hill Polo shirtDAY FIVE, MATCH ONE: ORCHARD HILL VS AUDI – Orchard Hill – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Clubmen – are the Defending Champions from last year’s U.S. Open. Their opponents in this Match were the foursome from Audi – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Bavarians.

FIRST CHUKKER – Facundo Pieres led the Defending Champs in an opening Chukker assault on Audi which saw Orchard Hill double up on them. At the end of the 1st the Clubmen held a 2 Goals to 1 lead.

SECOND CHUKKER – The onslaught continued as Orchard Hill swatted 2 more Goals between the Uprights, all while shutting out their opponents. The Bavarians now faced a 4-1 deficit going forward.

THIRD CHUKKER – The Clubmen and Audi matched each other blow for blow and Goal for Goal this time around, exchanging 2 Goals apiece. The teams headed into Halftime with Orchard Hill on top by a count of 6-3.

FOURTH CHUKKER – The Bavarians began to make their move to start the 2nd Half, outperforming Orchard Hill and cutting into their lead. Audi knocked through a pair of Goals while holding the Clubmen to 1. Orchard Hill’s edge now stood at just 7-5.  

FIFTH CHUKKER – Audi duplicated their play from the previous Chukker, outscoring the Clubmen 2 Goals to 1. With just 1 Chukker to play Orchard Hill was clinging to a mere 8-7 lead.  

SIXTH CHUKKER – Both offenses were on fire this go ’round. Goals practically flew between the Uprights of their own will as the two teams thwacked in SIX Goals, evenly divided 3 for each side. The Clubmen advanced to the Semifinals by a final tally of 11 Goals to 10.

Facundo Pieres dominated the scoring for the Defending Champions, knocking in 8 Goals. 

Travieso PoloDAY FIVE, MATCH TWO: TRAVIESO VS COCA COLA – Travieso – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Troubadors – are playing in their very first U.S. Open. Coca Cola – Official Balladeer’s Blog Nickname: The Red Colossus – is one of the two teams in this year’s Open which boast a female member, in their case Gillian Johnston. 

FIRST CHUKKER – Travieso and Coca Cola went parry and thrust, thrust and parry to start the Match, with neither team being able to seize the advantage. The Troubadors and the Red Colossus were deadlocked at 1-1.

SECOND CHUKKER – The two teams mirrored each other perfectly again on both sides of the ball. Two more Goals were scored by each team, making the total count now 3-3.

THIRD CHUKKER – The deadlock on the scoreboard was finally broken this time around. Coca Cola swatted in 3 Goals to the 2 registered by Travieso. The Red Colossus held a 6-5 Halftime advantage.   

FOURTH CHUKKER – The Troubadors opened up the 2nd Half of play by slamming through 3 Goals while stifling the Coca Cola offense. The Red Colossus only mustered 1 answering Goal, falling behind by a score of 8-7.

FIFTH CHUKKER – The defenses for both Travieso and Coca Cola distinguished themselves in this Chukker. Each team managed just 1 Goal, bringing the count to 9-8 in favor of the Troubadors.

SIXTH CHUKKER – The scoring was fast and furious to close out the Match. Travieso outdid the Red Colossus 3 Goals to 2 for a 12-10 victory and a trip to the Semifinals in their 1st U.S. Open. Pretty impressive.  

Mariano Gonzalez led the Troubadors with 6 Goals.
