CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The 4 seeds – the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS – took the court against the 6th seeded EASTERN FLORIDA STATE TITANS for the NJCAA Division One title.
The Blue Dragons went straight for the jugular with a 21-4 run to start the game and by Halftime led the Titans by a score of 39-16. (Yes, sixteen.) After the break Hutchinson College coasted to an 84-58 victory to earn their 3rd hoops crown. Devonte Bandoo’s 22 points led the Blue Dragons while his teammate Shakur Juiston put up a Double Double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. * THE BLUE DRAGONS ARE CHAMPIONS OF NJCAA DIVISION ONE *
*** NJCAA DIVISION TWO ***
CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – This clash for the crown pitted the top seeded SOUTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE SPARTANS against the 3 seeds – the LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES.
The Spartans and Hurricanes played a much tighter opening Half than in the D1 game. At the midpoint Southwestern (IA) College held just a 31-25 advantage over Louisburg College, but from there took command offensively. Ultimately the Spartans won their 1st ever National Championship in basketball by an authoritative 77-53. Brodric Thomas tossed in 18 points to lead Southwestern, which lost only ONE game for the entire 2016-2017 campaign. * THE SPARTANS ARE CHAMPIONS OF NJCAA DIVISION TWO *
