west florida argonautsThe debut season of intercollegiate football for the University of West Florida Argonauts draws ever nearer! They just signed their second recruiting class.

PENSACOLA, FL – University of West Florida football coach Pete Shinnick announced a class of 16 high school standouts on Wednesday, marking the second full class of recruits since the program was established.

Shinnick’s second class includes five offensive players, 10 on defense and one dynamic kicker/punter. Additionally, the staff announced eight mid-year transfer student-athletes who enrolled at UWF in January.“I am very proud of our assistant coaches and the hard work they put in to get us to this point,” Shinnick said. “16 signees and eight transfers make a great class for us.”

Both the incoming freshman group and transfer bunch includes three wide receivers each, helping fulfill a need at that position.

The Argonauts also picked up five defensive linemen and three offensive line transfers.

In the backfield on offense, UWF added a pair of quarterbacks – one with college experience and another with four years of eligibility remaining – and a running back who has rushed for more than 5,300 yards in the last two seasons.

Shinnick’s staff also got some extremely athletic athletes among its three linebackers and two defensive backs, while adding an all-state kicker/punter to fulfill a need at special teams.

UWF’s spring practice will begin on Tuesday, March 22 and end with the Spring Game on Saturday, April 16.
