COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM OCTOBER 31st

* HEADLINES *

Hardin-Simmons CowboysNUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – In the NCAA Division Three the 13th ranked HARDIN- SIMMONS UNIVERSITY COWBOYS hosted the number 3 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN- BAYLOR CRUSADERS. The Cowboys trailed the Crusaders 9-7 at Halftime but came back to win the game 29-26.

HELMETCampbellsville_KYTOPPLING NUMBER EIGHT – In the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) the number 20 CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS took it on the road against the 8th ranked LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS. This game was a true Instant Classic and in the end the Tigers managed a 26-21 triumph.

North Dakota State College of Science helmet NEWNUMBER FOUR FALLS – In the NJCAA the number 18 NORTH DAKOTA STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE WILDCATS took the field against the visiting 4th ranked CENTRAL LAKES COLLEGE RAIDERS. The Wildcats led 33-14 at the break but then had to hold on against the Raiders’ comeback attempt for a 39-35 upset win. NDSCS Quarterback Dallas Cook passed for 152 yds and 3 TD’s.   

Iowa Wesleyan CollegeUSCAA OVER NCAA – The IOWA WESLEYAN COLLEGE TIGERS are the Defending Champions of the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association). Yesterday they traveled to battle the NCAA Division Three team the MARTIN LUTHER COLLEGE KNIGHTS. After a 14-14 Halftime tie the Tigers shut out the Knights for a 27-14 victory.

Williamson Trade HelmetMECHANICS FIX THE GAMECOCKS – Staying in the USCAA for a moment the top ranked WILLIAMSON TRADE COLLEGE MECHANICS hosted the DELAWARE COLLEGE GAMECOCKS. The Mechanics led the Gamecocks 14-8 at the break and went on from there to win the game 22-16. Williamson improved to 6-2 with the win.  

Riverside College TigersNUMBER ONE GETS DETHRONED – In the CCCAA the number 10 RIVERSIDE COLLEGE TIGERS welcomed the top ranked LONG BEACH COLLEGE VIKINGS. The Tigers put up 17 points in both Halves while holding the Vikings to one Touchdown in each Half, defeating them by a count of 34-14. Riverside QB Ian Fieber threw for 342 yds and 4 TDs. 

* UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE *

Lindenwood at BellevilleNAIA – The UNIVERSITY OF LINDENWOOD AT BELLEVILLE LYNX played host to the (14) ROBERT MORRIS (IL) EAGLES and upset them in a 20-16 game for the ages     ###      And the ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM more than doubled up on the visiting  (25)  SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS by a score of 61-30. 

Northern State Wolves helmetNCAA DIVISION TWO – The NORTHERN STATE WOLVES took on the visiting (8) UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AT DULUTH BULLDOGS and edged them in a 23-15 thriller     ###      And the (24) COLORADO MESA UNIVERSITY MAVERICKS defeated their guests the (13) COLORADO MINES OREDIGGERS 31-17. 

North_Central_ILNCAA DIVISION THREE – The (19) NORTH CENTRAL CARDINALS notched a 33-15 road upset of the (15) ILLINOIS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TITANS     ###      Meanwhile the CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS won at the (18) SALISBURY UNIVERSITY SEA GULLS 51-39     ###      And the MORRISVILLE STATE MUSTANGS toppled the (20) CORTLAND STATE DRAGONS 42-28.

Dodge City Conquistadors helmetNJCAA – The (19) DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS traveled to face the (12) COFFEYVILLE COLLEGE RED RAVENS and added to their freefall by defeating them 34-28     ###      The NASSAU COLLEGE LIONS likewise notched a road upset of the (14) LOUISBURG COLLEGE HURRICANES in a 68-41 drubbing     ###      And the GEORGIA MILITARY COLLEGE BULLDOGS won at the (20) ASA COLLEGE (FL) SILVER STORM 26-13. 

Moorpark CollegeCCCAA – The MOORPARK COLLEGE RAIDERS brought down the visiting (4) CERRITOS COLLEGE FALCONS in a 41-35 Overtime nailbiter     ###      Meanwhile the (11) CHABOT COLLEGE GLADIATORS also won in OT, upsetting the (6) MODESTO PIRATES 60-53     ###      And the SAN JOAQUIN DELTA MUSTANGS beat their hosts the (18) FRESNO RAMS by a score of 47-40.

Benedictine RavensDOUBLE OVERTIME EPIC – Yesterday’s Coaches vs Cancer Game pitted the 15th ranked BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS against the homestanding number 13 team the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN. Four Quarters wasn’t enough. One Overtime period wasn’t enough. In Double OT the Ravens emerged with a 41-40 victory.  

Ave Maria University Gyrenes helmet NEWSUNSHINE STATE SHOWDOWN – The AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES battled the visiting EDWARD WATERS COLLEGE TIGERS in a Sun Conference showdown. The two teams traded blow for blow most of the way but in the end the Gyrenes prevailed by a final tally of 30-27. 

St Ambrose UniversityONE POINT WONDER – The SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES traveled to take on the SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS. This was the first ever gridiron meeting between these two teams and was an edge-of-your- seat affair from start to finish. In the end the Fighting Bees won the game 20-19.  

Sterling helmetROAD WARRIORS – The STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS visited the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES and clobbered them by a count of 44-25     ###      And the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS, where THE Tom Osborne played his college ball, won a much tighter 15-7 game at the MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS. 

Bethany SwedesBUTT KICKINGS – The BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES were less than gracious hosts to the FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS, trouncing them to the tune of 38-14     ###      And the LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS pounded the homestanding LYON COLLEGE SCOTS by a final score of 48-14.

Peru_St_NE_OLD3HAPPY HOMECOMING – The PERU STATE BOBCATS celebrated Homecoming by defeating the GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS 34-24     ###      And on Senior Day the (12) SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS topped the OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS 34-23.

Bacone WarriorsUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The BACONE COLLEGE WARRIORS took it on the road and defeated the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be the Flying W’s) in a 37-30 thriller     ###      The MONTANA WESTERN BULLDOGS beat their hosts the COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES 27-23     ###      And the MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS won a 27-24 road game against the EVANGEL UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS.

Jamestown College JimmiesNORTH STAR NOTES – A pair of games in the North Star Athletic Association saw wins by teams trying for a respectable end to the season: the UNIVERSITY OF JAMESTOWN JIMMIES defeated the visiting WALDORF COLLEGE WARRIORS 29-7     ###      And the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS topped the PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS 27-16. 

Southern Oregon RaidersPACK THE BOWL IN PINK DAY – In a game raising awareness about Breast Cancer the top ranked Defending Champions of NAIA football, the SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS, showed no mercy to their hosts the ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS. The Raiders blew out the Battlin’ Bears 56-10.

Ottawa (KS) BravesSHUTOUTS – The OTTAWA UNIVERSITY BRAVES managed defensive perfection against the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS by a score of 17-0     ###      And the (23) NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS blanked the homestanding BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS 21-zip.  

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

Ashland University Eagles helmetWHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (6) ASHLAND UNIVERSITY EAGLES hosted the (10) GRAND VALLEY STATE LAKERS and dispatched them 45-31     ###     And the (14) UNIVERSITY OF NORTH ALABAMA LIONS mauled the visiting (25) DELTA STATE STATESMEN 43-17. 

HillsdaleSHUTOUTS – The HILLSDALE COLLEGE CHARGERS were on the road against the SAGINAW VALLEY STATE CARDINALS and achieved a 26-0 shutout     ###      Meanwhile the (18) UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES kicked the homestanding LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY LIONS 31-0     ###      And the (11) UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS COUGARS blanked the CONCORDIA (St Paul) GOLDEN BEARS 49-0 in their own house!

Livingstone Blue Bears helmetWORKING OVERTIME – Four Quarters weren’t enough for the LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE BLUE BEARS and the visiting FAYETTEVILLE STATE BRONCOS. Regulation ended tied at 35 with the Blue Bears winning it 42-35 in OT.     ###      And the (22) MICHIGAN TECH HUSKIES overcame the TIFFIN UNIVERSITY DRAGONS 39-38 in their extra session.

Highland CavaliersUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The UVA- WISE HIGHLAND CAVALIERS edged the visiting URBANA UNIVERSITY BLUE KNIGHTS in a 24-19 nailbiter     ###      Meanwhile the SOUTHWEST BAPTIST UNIVERSITY BEARCATS notched a 46-42 road victory over the MISSOURI S&T MINERS     ###      And the LIU-POST PIONEERS beat the SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE OWLS 49-46.

Mary Marauders helmetA TALE OF TWO MARAUDERS TEAMS – The UNIVERSITY OF MARY MARAUDERS hosted the UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AT CROOKSTON GOLDEN EAGLES and defeated them in a tight 33-28 clash     ###      But on the other hand the CENTRAL STATE MARAUDERS fell on the road to the (16) TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY GOLDEN TIGERS 19-7. 

Humboldt StateALL-NAME GAMES – The (17) HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACKS manhandled their guests from Canada the SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY CLAN by a score of 57-0     ###      And the SAINT JOSEPH’S COLLEGE PUMAS routed the visiting UNIVERSITY OF GOD’S CHOSEN DISCIPLES. The final tally was Pumas 41  Disciples 0. 

Angelo State Rams helmetNOT THE NFL – Rams over Texans – The ANGELO STATE RAMS dismembered their guests the TARLETON STATE TEXANS by a score of 57-24     ###      Cowboys over Eagles – The NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS UNIVERSITY COWBOYS won a 24-16 affair at the CHADRON STATE EAGLES.       

Southeastern Oklahoma Savage StormHOME AND AWAY – Home – The SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM annihilated the SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS in a 35-13 game     ###      Away – And the DIXIE STATE RED STORM jolted the SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS by a score of 48-25.

Southeastern Fire helmet REALFOUR ALARM FIRE – The SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE are still in just their second year of playing intercollegiate football but are still burning up. Yesterday the Fire welcomed the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS and proceeded to defeat them by a score of 35-21.

Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers helmetBLOWOUTS – The KENTUCKY WESLEYAN COLLEGE PANTHERS eviscerated the visiting ALFRED STATE PIONEERS by a count of SIXTY-NINE to EIGHT     ###      And the NAIA’s FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES totaled their hosts the NCCAA’s KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS in a 41-0 shutout on Veteran’s Appreciation Day.

Northwestern (MN) helmetINSTANT CLASSIC – The UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES were on the road against the GREENVILLE COLLEGE PANTHERS yesterday. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Eagles became a 21-0 advantage at the Half. After the break the Eagles had to hold on by their fingertips against the furious Panther comeback attempt. The final score was Northwestern 21  Greenville 19.

Finlandia Lions helmetCATFIGHT – The FINLANDIA UNIVERSITY LIONS are still in their first year of playing intercollegiate football and traveled to face the MARANATHA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SABERCATS. The Lions parlayed a 15-3 Halftime advantage into a 29-16 triumph. Lions Running Back Jaavaid Love rushed for 144 yards and 2 Touchdowns.

McMurry Warhawks helmet NEWOFFENSE AND DEFENSE – The MCMURRY UNIVERSITY WARHAWKS played host to the BELHAVEN UNIVERSITY BLAZERS on Saturday. The offenses had the floor in the 1st Half as the Warhawks led 6-3 in the opening Quarter and 14-10 at the break. The defenses owned the 2nd Half, allowing no more points for either team, making 14-10 the final score as well as the Halftime tally.    

* NCAA DIVISION THREE *

St Thomas University TommiesWHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (6) UNIVERSITY OF SAINT THOMAS TOMMIES visited the (14) CONCORDIA (Moorhead) COBBERS in a battle of cool-named teams. The Tommies trailed the Cobbers 7-0 to end the 1st Quarter but by the break has seized a 28-7 lead. From there the University of Saint Thomas cruised to a 38-14 victory.

NC Wesleyan Battlin' BishopsUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN BATTLING BISHOPS invaded the home field of the AVERETT UNIVERSITY COUGARS and won a 56-51 shootout     ###      And the ANDERSON UNIVERSITY RAVENS managed to survive a 17-13 visit from the DEFIANCE COLLEGE YELLOW JACKETS. 

Worcester State Lancers helmetWORKING OVERTIME – The WORCESTER STATE LANCERS and the homestanding PLYMOUTH STATE PANTHERS ended Regulation tied at 27-27. In the Overtime session the Lancers pulled out a 30-27 triumph.     ###      And the OT clash between the HANOVER COLLEGE PANTHERS and the EARLHAM COLLEGE QUAKERS ended on a missed PAT as the Panthers won 35-34. 

Puget Sound Loggers helmetWE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – The UNIVERSITY OF PUGET SOUND LOGGERS took the field against the visiting PACIFIC LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY LUTES on Saturday. Both defenses were humming and in the end the Loggers came out of the game boasting a win by the score of 6-2.

Norwich Cadets helmetROAD WARRIORS – The NORWICH UNIVERSITY CADETS pretty much manhandled their hosts the MOUNT IDA COLLEGE MUSTANGS by a count of 33-7     ###      Meanwhile the GUILFORD COLLEGE QUAKERS eked out a 32-29 road win over the CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY CARDINALS     ###      And the HIRAM COLLEGE TERRIERS mauled the ALLEGHENY COLLEGE ALLIGATORS 43-13. 

Carnegie Mellon TartansONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – The CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY TARTANS found themselves on the road against the THIEL COLLEGE TOMCATS and obliterated them to the tune of 73-19     ###      And the SAINT NORBERT COLLEGE GREEN KNIGHTS hosted the LAWRENCE UNIVERSITY VIKINGS and proceeded to crush them 63-6.  

Teacher's College of New Jersey Lions HELMETLIONS ON THE ROAD – The TEACHER’S COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY LIONS were on the road against the WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY PIONEERS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Lions held a 6-3 edge at Halftime. The Pioneers were on top 10-6 to start the 4th Quarter but TCNJ came back to win the game 20-17. 

Hamline Pipers helmetONE POINT WONDERS – The HAMLINE UNIVERSITY PIPERS traveled to take on the SAINT OLAF COLLEGE OLES and snuck back home with a 31-30 win     ###      The FERRUM COLLEGE PANTHERS logged a 32-31 road victory over the METHODIST UNIVERSITY MONARCHS     ###      And the BATES COLLEGE BOBCATS defeated their hosts the COLBY COLLEGE WHITE MULES in a 10-9 thriller.
