THE FRACAS IN FAIRMONT – The FAIRMONT STATE FIGHTING FALCONS hosted the WEST LIBERTY STATE HILLTOPPERS last night. The Fighting Falcons led most of the game, holding a 14-7 lead in the 1st Quarter, a 14-13 edge at Halftime and a 21-20 advantage to end the 3rd. In the 4th Quarter the Hilltoppers seized the lead and Fairmont State needed a Touchdown run by RB Austin White to win the game 36-30 with mere seconds to play. QB Cooper Hibbs had 2 TD’s on 187 yds passing.
RANGERS GO 4-0 – The NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS stayed unbeaten in their road game against the ITAWAMBA COLLEGE INDIANS. The 1st Quarter ended in a 7-7 tie but by the break the Rangers held a 17-14 lead. In the 2nd Half Northwest Mississippi outscored the Indians 14-10 to win the game by a final score of 21-14. Rangers Quarterback Gardner Minshew passed for 315 yards and 2 Touchhdowns.
WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The number 13 MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLLEGE BULLDOGS were visiting the 11th ranked HINDS COLLEGE EAGLES. After a hard-fought game the Bulldogs trailed 27-24 with just 4 minutes and 30 seconds left to play. From there the defense stepped up to shut out the Eagles and the offense managed 11 more points for a 38-27 comeback triumph. Next week Mississippi Gulf Coast returns home to face Jones County College.
MILITARY APPRECIATION GAME – The EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE WARRIORS battled the homestanding HOLMES COLLEGE BULLDOGS in this game. At the Half the Warriors led by a score of 16-7 which the Bulldogs cut to 16-14 in the 3rd Quarter. East Central College went on to score 2 more Touchdowns themselves in the 3rd but missed a PAT. After a scoreless 4th Quarter the final tally was Warriors 29 Bulldogs 14.
BLOWOUT – The defending national champions of NJCAA football – the EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS – found themselves on the road against the NORTHEAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE TIGERS yesterday. It was all Lions all the time as East Mississippi College parlayed a 14-0 1st Quarter lead into a 21-7 Halftime advantage and ultimately a FIFTY-SIX to SEVEN smackdown of the Tigers. The Lions are now 3-1 and still hoping for a Threepeat of national championships this year.
