NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS UNDERWAY IN THE USCAA AND ACCA PLUS MORE

* USCAA DIVISION ONE *

Concordia (AL) LogoDAY ONE, GAME ONE – The National Championship Tournament is underway in the USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association)! Yesterday saw the 4th seeded CONCORDIA (AL) COLLEGE HORNETS take on the 5 seeds – the FLORIDA NATIONAL UNIVERSITY CONQUISTADORS. The Conquistadors seemed primed for an upset, leading 44-35 at Halftime but the Hornets kept their composure and came storming back for a 99-93 victory. Anthony Jones led Concordia with 28 points.  

daemen wildcatsDAY ONE, GAME TWO – The top seeded DAEMEN COLLEGE WILDCATS got more of a fight than they anticipated from the 8th seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY AT SOUTH BEND TITANS. The Wildcats got a rude awakening as they found themselves trailing at the break 39-31. In the 2nd Half Daemen College righted their ship and managed a 69-63 comeback win. Gerald Beverly of the Wildcats notched a Double Double with 21 points and 19 rebounds.   

rochestercollegewarriorsDAY ONE, GAME THREE – In the 3 spot the storied ROCHESTER COLLEGE WARRIORS faced the 6th seeded SAINT JOSEPH’S COLLEGE OF BROOKLYN BEARS. The Warriors – trying for their 2nd championship in the last 3 years – converted a slight 35-31 Halftime edge into an 82-75 victory over the Bears. Paris Pereira led Rochester College in points and assists with 22 and 7, respectively.  

Berea MountaineersDAY ONE, GAME FOUR – This game featured a hardcourt battle between the 2nd seeded BEREA COLLEGE MOUNTAINEERS and the 7 seeds – the IOWA WESLEYAN COLLEGE TIGERS. The Mountaineers went for the jugular early and by the midpoint had compiled an imposing 50-23 lead. They followed that up with a win by the final tally of 83-64. Richard Parker tossed in 19 points to lead Berea College.  

* USCAA DIVISION TWO *

PSU systemDAY ONE, GAME ONE – This game between the 10 seeds – the PENN STATE AT FAYETTE ROARING LIONS – and the 7th seeded UNIVERSITY OF MAINE AT MACHIAS CLIPPERS spawned an upset. The Roaring Lions put the Clippers on notice early and led 54-39 by Halftime. After the break PSU-Fayette went on to put up a Century Club-level 100 points to the 86 mustered by UMM. For the Roaring Lions Matt McKenna notched a Double Double with 33 points and 10 rebounds.   

PSU Mont AltoDAY ONE, GAME TWO – The second of two games in yesterday’s Opening Round for the USCAA Division Two saw another upset by a Penn State College System institution. The 9th seeded PENN STATE AT MONT ALTO NITTANY LIONS toppled the 8 seeds – the WARREN WILSON COLLEGE OWLS. The Nittany Lions grabbed a 34-21 lead by the break but then had to hold on by their fingernails against a furious comeback attempt by the Owls. PSU-Mont Alto won 66-64 led by Corey Meyers’ 16 points.

* SOUTHERN STATES ATHLETIC CONFERENCE *

brewtonparkerOPENING ROUND – GAME ONE – The 9th seeded BREWTON-PARKER COLLEGE BARONS took the court against the 8 seeds – the BLUE MOUNTAIN COLLEGE TOPPERS. The upset-minded Barons had taken a 33-27 lead by Halftime in this thrilling back and forth affair. Two more lead changes in the final minute of play produced a final tally of Barons 67  Toppers 62. McKel Miller led Brewton-Parker College with his 15 points.  

Belhaven Blazers logoOPENING ROUND – GAME TWO – This game pitted the 7 seeds – the AUBURN UNIVERSITY AT MONTGOMERY WARHAWKS (formerly the Senators) – against the 10th seeded BELHAVEN UNIVERSITY BLAZERS. The 1st Half was all about suffocating defensive play with the score standing at 25-22 in favor of the Warhawks when the buzzer sounded. The Blazers regrouped in the locker room and came out primed for a comeback. In the end Belhaven completed the upset by a score of 71-63. Jordan Bedford had 22 points for the Blazers.  

* SOONER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE *

usao_drovers_150px31OPENING ROUND – GAME ONE – This was a Double Overtime epic between the 8th seeded UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS and the 9th seeded TEXAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY RAMS. The Drovers trailed 37-35 at Halftime but came back to tie the game up at 69-69 to force OT. The 1st Overtime ended in a 76-76 tie but in the 2nd OT the University of Science and Arts pulled off an 86-84 win. Ed Lexus Collier’s 24 points led the Drovers.   

Southwestern Christian U EaglesOPENING ROUND – GAME TWO – The 10th seeded SOUTHWESTERN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES went face to face with the 7th seeded OKLAHOMA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY BISON. The Eagles came to win and held a 30-29 edge over the Bison at Halftime. Regulation ended in a 69-69 tie, but in the Overtime session Southwestern Christian emerged with a 78-74 victory. Tyler Turner had a Double Double for the winners with 21 points and 10 rebounds.  

* RED RIVER ATHLETIC CONFERENCE *

Wiley College WildcatsOPENING ROUND  – GAME ONE – In the 3 spot the WILEY COLLEGE WILDCATS squared off against the 6 seeds – the LSU-SHREVEPORT PILOTS (Riverboat Pilots). The Wildcats turned in one of the best performances of the season against the storied Pilots. When this true game for the ages was finally in the books Wiley College had advanced to the next round by a final score of 89-86. DaJuan Cooper led the Wildcats with his 25 points.  

LOGOLANGSTONOPENING ROUND – GAME TWO – The 4th seeded LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS played the 5th seeded UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTHWEST MUSTANGS in this game. Like the Wiley versus LSU-Shreveport contest this was a nailbiter that went right down to the final buzzer. After all the dust had settled the final score turned out to be Lions 82  Mustangs 79. Langston moves on to the next round.
