OVERTIME EPIC IN RED – The INDIANA UNIVERSITY EAST RED WOLVES welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF RIO GRANDE RED STORM yesterday in what turned out to be one of the best games of the day. The Red Wolves trailed the Red Storm 46-35 at the end of a very explosive 1st Half but outscored their guests 44-33 in the 2nd to end Regulation in a 79-79 tie. In Overtime IU-East seized control and won by a final score of 95-85. Huston Clark led the Red Wolves with 21 points.
CENTURY CLUB – As always the Century Club is for teams reaching 100 points or more during Regulation: the CORNERSTONE UNIVERSITY GOLDEN EAGLES not only put up 101 points but were equally excellent on the Defensive side of the ball, holding the MARYGROVE COLLEGE MUSTANGS to a mere 58 points. Cornerstone University’s Kyle Steigenga led the Golden Eagles with his 26 points in this 101-58 rout.
THIS TIME THE “O” IN OT MEANT OFFENSE – Two Overtime games yesterday were true epics in Offensive- minded basketball. The NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES and the DORDT COLLEGE DEFENDERS were tied at 98-98 to end Regulation. When the dust settled in OT the Prairie Wolves won it 120-113. ### Meanwhile the NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS and their hosts the CONCORDIA (NE) BULLDOGS ended Regulation tied at 96-all. In the extra session the Red Raiders emerged with a tight 108-106 victory.
AT THE OPPOSITE EXTREME … – From Offensive Epics to a masterpiece in Defensive hoops. The LOURDES UNIVERSITY GRAY WOLVES and the SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS kept points at a premium in their hardcourt clash. At the end of the 1st Half the Gray Wolves held a 27-19 advantage over the Saints and kept up the pressure in the 2nd Half. The game ended in a Lourdes University victory by a score of 56-40. Jake Dupree’s 22 points led the Gray Wolves.
DROVERS ON TOP – The UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS played a game for the ages against the SOUTHWESTERN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Drovers held a 33-27 lead over the Eagles at Halftime and after a hard-fought 2nd Half survived with a tight 69-64 triumph. Ed’Lexus Collier led USAO in scoring, putting up 17 points.
LAND O’GOSHEN – The GOSHEN COLLEGE MAPLE LEAFS took the court yesterday to battle the HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY FORESTERS. The opening Half of the game ended in a 44-35 Maple Leaf lead. In the 2nd Half the Foresters tried to rally but Goshen College responded every time with runs of their own and in the end walked away with a 79-69 triumph. The leading scorers for the Maple Leafs were Trevor Commisaris with 18 points and Dominique Bolden with 17.
RACING TO A VICTORY – The UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN OHIO RACERS showed their mettle against the visiting INDIANA TECH WARRIORS. The Racers converted a 44-33 Halftime lead into an 83-66 victory to improve to 13-5 on the season. Lawrence Jackson led the University of Northwestern Ohio with 23 points followed by Aaron Cross and Ed Jenkins with 17 points each.
ONE POINT WONDER – The PARK UNIVERSITY PIRATES clashed with the WILLIAM WOODS UNIVERSITY OWLS in a contest of storied teams. The game was everything viewers could dream of, as a tight 30-27 Pirates edge at the break ultimately became a 66-65 victory after a nailbiting 2nd Half. Freddie Manyawu tossed in 15 points to lead Park University.
HOME STANDS – The UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN AT DEARBORN WOLVERINES played the MADONNA UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS yesterday. UMD led the Crusaders 43-29 at the Half then held on against a Madonna surge for a 71-63 victory. ### And the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN trailed the VITERBO UNIVERSITY V-HAWKS 32-31 at the break but came back to win the game by a score of 71-64.
THIS IS THE BUSINESS WE HAVE CHOSEN – The AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF BUSINESS EAGLES likewise did battle with a team called the Crusaders – in their case the CLARKE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS. The Eagles were on top 33-26 by Halftime and then both teams tossed in 50 points in the 2nd Half, giving AIB an 83-76 win over Clarke to improve to 12-4. Brandon Eley led the Eagles in scoring with his 26 points.
TORNADO WARNING – The TALLADEGA COLLEGE TORNADOES traveled to face the EDWARD WATERS COLLEGE TIGERS. A 39-30 Tornadoes lead at the break ultimately held up as the difference in the game as both teams scored exactly 33 points in the 2nd Half. The final talley was Talladega College 72 Edward Waters College 63. Shondel Stewart notched 26 points to lead the Tornadoes in scoring.
ROAD WARRIORS – The AQUINAS COLLEGE SAINTS took it on the road against the LAWRENCE TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY BLUE DEVILS yesterday. The Saints compiled a 25-21 lead in the 1st Half then pressed down on the accelerator in the 2nd for a victory by a final score of 61-42. Eleven different Aquinas College players scored in this team win, led by the 13 points of Anthony Williams.
COMEBACKS ARE SUCH A RUSH – The XAVIER (LA) GOLD RUSH improved to 12-6 for the 2014-2015 season with one of their patented comebacks, this one over the PHILANDER SMITH COLLEGE PANTHERS. The Gold Rush trailed the Panthers at Halftime by a score of 36-32 but stepped up big on both sides of the ball in the 2nd Half for a 61-53 victory. Three Xavier players led the team with 12 points each – Anthony Goode, Wesley Pluviose- Philip and Morris Wright.
CAVALIER ATTITUDE – The SAINT GREGORY’S UNIVERSITY CAVALIERS once again demonstrated their hardcourt prowess against the JOHN BROWN UNIVERSITY GOLDEN EAGLES. The Cavaliers coverted a 43-34 Halftime lead into an authoritative 90-74 triumph. Leading Saint Gregory’s University in scoring was Marty Wilkerson with 28 points.
BEAR MARKET – The TRUETT MCCONNELL COLLEGE BEARS decided to show the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES who was boss. Da Bears pushed the Eagles around on the court, managing a 33-25 lead at the Half enroute to a 86-68 rout. Truett McConnell College was led in scoring by J’Quayveon Williams, who contributed 17 points in the victory.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The SAINT THOMAS UNIVERSITY BOBCATS had a commanding 38-24 Halftime lead over the NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY (FL) SEAHAWKS, but found themselves holding on for a tight 73-67 win ### And the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS likewise kept the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES at arm’s length for a 77-70 triumph.
STUNG BY THE HORNETS – The HARRIS- STOWE STATE HORNETS were getting more than they bargained for from the visiting HANNIBAL- LAGRANGE UNIVERSITY TROJANS. At the midpoint the Hornets were clinging by their fingernails to a 37-36 edge. They made some breathing room for themselves in the 2nd Half and won by a final score of 77-66. Trevor Roberts’ 25 points led the scoring for Harris-Stowe State.
BLOWOUTS – The CAL STATE AT SAN MARCOS COUGARS absolutely chopped down the MENLO COLLEGE OAKS in a NINETY-THREE to FIFTY-NINE beatdown. ### And the ASHFORD UNIVERSITY SAINTS smacked around the homestanding INDIANA UNIVERSITY NORTHWEST RED HAWKS to the tune of 82-54.
