COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 28th

The 6th seeded VIRGINIA INTERMONT COLLEGE COBRAS remain THE story of the tournament so far as they logged yet another postseason upset to advance to the conference championship game. Yesterday the Cobras toppled the AAC’s 2 seeds, the REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES, in an 80-75 Instant Classic.   ###   And as for the chalk side of the tourney the UNION (KY) BULLDOGS lived up to their number 1 seeding, moving on to the title game with a thrilling 92-87 victory over the 4th seeded MILLIGAN COLLEGE BUFFALOES.

The 2nd seeded SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS rung in the chimes of midnight for the CCAC’s Cinderellas, the 4th seeded ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS. After Wednesday night’s upset win brought the Lakers to the semifinals the Cougars said enough was enough and sent them home for the year with a 73-59 triumph of their own.   ###   Meanwhile the conference’s top seeds, the CARDINAL STRITCH UNIVERSITY WOLVES, who are also the defending National Champions of NAIA2 basketball, moved on to the league’s title game by defeating the 3rd seeded ROBERT MORRIS (IL) EAGLES by a score of 79-71.

Ashford U SaintsASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT INSTITUTIONS

The AAI finally joined the postseason party last night by tipping off their own conference tournament for 2014. The ASHFORD UNIVERSITY SAINTS came in as the 1 seeds and held off a spirited upset attempt on the part of the 4th seeded FISHER COLLEGE FALCONS. The final score in the game was Saints 80  Falcons 74.   ###   And the 3rd seeded NORTHERN NEW MEXICO COLLEGE EAGLES managed an upset of the 2nd seeded ROCHESTER COLLEGE WARRIORS. The Eagles moved on courtesy of their 71-61 victory over the storied RC program.

The top seeded INDIANA UNIVERSITY SOUTHEAST GRENADIERS led the 5th seeded upstarts, the BEREA COLLEGE MOUNTAINEERS, at the Half by a score of 42-40. The Grenadiers eventually put just enough separation between them and Berea after the break, with their 78-69 win putting them in their 7th KIAC title game in a row.   ### And in the other semifinal in the KIAC last night a battle of Eagles resulted in the 2nd seeded CINCINATTI CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES smacking down the 6th seeded ALICE LLOYD COLLEGE EAGLES to the tune of 77-56.    

College of the Ozarks Bobcats BIGMIDLANDS COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE

In the MCAC’s unique tournament format two divisions – North and South – play in separate brackets with the winners of each division facing off in the league’s championship game. The (2South) COLLEGE OF THE OZARKS BOBCATS battled the (3South) CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE TIGERS and defeated them 80-69.   ###   The (1South) OKLAHOMA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES eliminated the (4South) CENTRAL BAPTIST COLLEGE MUSTANGS in a 97-62 smackdown.   ###   The (1North) BELLEVUE UNIVERSITY BRUINS trounced the (4North) HASKELL INDIAN NATIONS UNIVERSITY INDIANS to the tune of 97-66.   ###   And the (3North) YORK COLLEGE PANTHERS upset the (2North) WALDORF COLLEGE WARRIORS by a score of 98-89. 

Grand View VikingsMIDWEST COLLEGIATE CONFERENCE

The 5th seeded GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS provided the upset of the MCC tournament so far by eliminating the top seeded SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES in a 90-75 shocker. It’s the old “rest versus rust” question because the Fighting Bees had a bye in the previous round.   ###   And the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN may be the tournament’s 2nd seeds but they had their hands full with the 6th seeded MOUNT MERCY UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS but held on for a 96-89 win.

Central Christian College of the Bible SaintsCENTRAL REGION – In this region of the National Christian College Athletic Association the 4th seeded CENTRAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE OF THE BIBLE SAINTS (formerly the Heralds) rose up and toppled the 1 seeds – the MANHATTAN CHRISTIAN COLLEGE CRUSADERS. The Saints defeated the Crusaders in a very odd 48-44 defensive epic.   ###   And the 2nd seeded GRACE UNIVERSITY ROYALS bounced the 3rd seeded BAPTIST BIBLE COLLEGE DEFENDERS in a very entertaining 80-72 affair.  

Kentucky Christian Knights logoMID-EAST REGION – In this region the 2nd seeded KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS won a game for the ages against the 3rd seeded BOYCE COLLEGE BULLDOGS. The final score was Knights 87  Bulldogs 82.   ###   And in the other Mid-East semifinal the top seeded OHIO CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY TRAILBLAZERS had a bit of an easier time and sent the 4th seeded JOHNSON UNIVERSITY PREACHERS home by defeating them 70-55.

Kuyper College CougarsMID-WEST REGION – The region’s top seeded KUYPER COLLEGE COUGARS lived up to their placement, dispatching the 4th seeded NORTHLAND INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY PIONEERS by a final score of 90-77.   ###   Meanwhile the 3 seeds, the GRACE BIBLE COLLEGE TIGERS, took down the 2nd seeded MARANATHA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS in a 94-87 hardcourt thriller.

Trinity Bible College Lions logoNORTH CENTRAL REGION – In the 2 spot the TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE LIONS put up a Century Club- level 100 points to eliminate the 3rd seeded FAITH BAPTIST BIBLE COLLEGE EAGLES, who managed 89 points themselves in the loss.   ###   And the top seeded NORTH CENTRAL UNIVERSITY RAMS handed an 83-60 loss to the 4th seeded PROVIDENCE UNIVERSITY COLLEGE PILOTS.

Pensacola Christian College EaglesSOUTH REGION – The 2nd seeded PENSACOLA CHRISTIAN COLLEGE EAGLES battled the 3rd seeded TOCCOA FALLS COLLEGE EAGLES and defeated them 74-63.   ###   And in the South Region’s other semifinal game the 4th seeded CLEARWATER CHRISTIAN COLLEGE COUGARS fell very hard to the top seeded TRINITY BAPTIST COLLEGE EAGLES by a final score of 86-64.  

Hillsdale Free Will Baptist Saints 2SOUTHWEST REGION – The HILLSDALE FREE WILL BAPTIST COLLEGE SAINTS came in as the 2nd seed and yesterday they eliminated the 3rd seeded DALLAS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE CRUSADERS in a 99-91 outcome.   ###   And the top seeded ARLINGTON BAPTIST COLLEGE PATRIOTS overcame the 4th seeded OZARK CHRISTIAN COLLEGE AMBASSADORS in a 90-87 nailbiter.

Multnomah U LionsWEST REGION – Only three teams make the tournament from the West Region so there are no Quarterfinals or true Semifinals. Instead yesterday saw the 2nd seeded MULTNOMAH UNIVERSITY LIONS taking on the 3rd seeded PORTLAND BIBLE COLLEGE WILDCATS for the right to move on to the Regional Championship Game tomorrow. The Lions scored a Century Club- level 116 points to the 83 put up by the Wildcats, so it will be Multnomah vs West Coast Baptist College for the West Region crown.

Phoenix Bears logoREGION 101 – CHAMPIONSHIP GAME – The top-seeded PHOENIX COLLEGE BEARS faced off against the 2nd seeded TOHONO O’ODHAM COLLEGE JEGOS in this regional title game yesterday. The Bears wound up walking away trumphant with their 87-69 win over the Jegos.  

mcc penn valley scouts smallREGION 216 – SEMIFINALS – The MCC-PENN VALLEY SCOUTS did battle with the WENTWORTH MILITARY ACADEMY AND COLLEGE RED DRAGONS in the first regional semifinal and defeated them by a score of 70-58.   ###   And in the other semifinal the SAINT LOUIS COLLEGE ARCHERS came out on top against the NORTH CENTRAL MISSOURI COLLEGE PIRATES 72-67.  

Mohawk Valley College HawksREGION 303 – QUARTERFINALS – The MOHAWK VALLEY COLLEGE HAWKS won a 70-66 Instant Classic against the FINGER LAKES COLLEGE LAKERS   ###   Meanwhile the SUNY-DELHI BRONCOS pounded the CAYUGA COLLEGE SPARTANS by a score of 73-55   ###   The CLINTON COLLEGE COUGARS eliminated the TOMPKINS CORTLAND COLLEGE PANTHERS in a 90-75 affair   ###   And the HERKIMER COLLEGE GENERALS smacked around the NORTH COUNTY COLLEGE SAINT BERNARDS by a laughable score of 69-42.  

Hostos College CaimansREGION 315 – QUARTERFINALS – The HOSTOS COLLEGE CAIMANS won a very physical 66-58 game against the KINGSBOROUGH COLLEGE WAVE   ###   The SULLIVAN COLLEGE GENERALS roughed up the BRONX COLLEGE BRONCOS by a score of 88-65   ###   In the meantime the BOROUGH OF MANHATTAN COLLEGE PANTHERS and the NASSAU COLLEGE LIONS d   ###   And the SUFFOLK COLLEGE SHARKS jhf sdf ROCKLAND COLLEGE HAWKS.

66_glendalevaqueros.GIF (160×120)SO-CAL DIVISION – ROUND TWO – The 7th seeded GLENDALE (CA) VAQUEROS won a 67-65 nailbiter against the 10th seeded LOS ANGELES HARBOR COLLEGE SEAHAWKS to tip off the second round of play in the Southern California Division   ###   The CITRUS COLLEGE OWLS came in as the 11 seeds but dragged the 6th seeded EAST LOS ANGELES HUSKIES through TWO Overtime periods before notching an 86-81 upset win   ###   And in an 8 seed over 9 seed victory the CERRITOS COLLEGE FALCONS edged the CUESTA COLLEGE COUGARS in a 71-67 nailbiter. 

Ohlone College RenegadesNOR-CAL DIVISION – ROUND TWO – The 6th seeded OHLONE COLLEGE RENEGADES notched an authoritative 64-53 victory over the 11th seeded COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS GIANTS   ###   In the 8 spot the BUTTE COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS bounced the 9th seeded SAN JOSE CITY COLLEGE JAGUARS  77-65   ###   The 7 seeds, the CONSUMNES RIVER COLLEGE HAWKS, masterfully handled the 10th seeded LASSEN COLLEGE COUGARS in an 88-69 win   ###   And the 12th seeded CABRILLO COLLEGE SEAHAWKS won a stupendous 95-88 Overtime affair against the 5th seeded YUBA COLLEGE 49ers.
