COLLEGE BASKETBALL CONFERENCE TOURNAMENTS CONTINUE

Bethany Swedes logoKANSAS COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 3rd seeded BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES took on the 6th seeded OTTAWA (KS) UNIVERSITY BRAVES in Quarterfinal action yesterday and won a thrilling 92-86 game   ###   In a 5 seed over 4 seed upset the TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS toppled the UNIVERSITY OF SAINT MARY SPIRES by a final score of 74-68   ###   Meanwhile the top seeded FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS got more than they bargained for from the 8th seeded SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS but escaped with a 55-52 win   ###   And in the 2 spot the STERLING COLLEGE WARRIORS comfortably slapped down the 7th seeded MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS to the tune of 82-68.

ave-maria-university-gyrenesTHE SUN CONFERENCE – The opening round of the 2014 Sun Conference Tournament got underway yesterday. The AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES came into the tourney as the 8 seeds and battled the 9th seeded FLORIDA MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY LIONS. The Gyrenes smoked the Lions all through the First Half and led by an unbelievable score of 32-18 at the break. The Lions outscored Ave Maria University in the Second Half but couldn’t overcome their poor play from earlier. The final score was Gyrenes 68  Lions 56.   ###   The 7 seeds, the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS, faced the 10th seeded WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS in yesterday’s opening round and compiled a 48-37 lead by the Half. The Warriors coasted the rest of the way to advance with a 90-78 victory.  

virginia intermontAPPALACHIAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE – The 6th seeded VIRGINIA INTERMONT COLLEGE COBRAS were eager to continue this postseason’s theme of 6 seeds upsetting 3 seeds. Their game with the 3rd seeded TENNESSEE WESLEYAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS was tied at 2-2 early on before the Cobras took the lead and never gave it  back. When all was said and done VIC defeated Tennessee Wesleyan by a final score of 84-80 in a game for the ages.   ###   The 2nd seeded REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES eliminated the 10th seeded ST ANDREWS UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS 75-68   ###   Meanwhile the 4 seeds, the MILLIGAN COLLEGE BUFFALOES defeated the 5th seeded BRYAN COLLEGE LIONS by a score of 76-63   ###   And the top seeded UNION (KY) BULLDOGS won a 73-59 game against the 8th seeded POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS.

Johnson University tennesseeMID-EAST REGION – In this region of the National Christian College Athletic Association yesterday the 4th seeded JOHNSON UNIVERSITY PREACHERS eliminated the 5th seeded CROWN COLLEGE ROYAL CRUSADERS by a final score of 79-73.   ###   And in the other opening round game for the region the 3rd seeded BOYCE COLLEGE BULLDOGS routed the 6th seeded WELCH COLLEGE FLAMES to the tune of 96-73.  

Maranatha Baptist logoMID-WEST REGION – The 2nd seeded MARANATHA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS eliminated the 7 seeds, the MOODY BIBLE INSTITUTE ARCHERS, in a very entertaining 71-61 game.   ###   The 6th seeded LINCOLN CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY RED LIONS fell to the 3rd seeded GRACE BIBLE COLLEGE TIGERS in a 96-66 beatdown.   ###   And in the region’s tightest game of the day the 4th seeded NORTHLAND INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY PIONEERS edged the 5th seeded GREAT LAKES CHRISTIAN COLLEGE LAKES 74-70.  

Clearwater Christian CougarsSOUTH REGION – The 4th seeded CLEARWATER CHRISTIAN COLLEGE COUGARS registered a Century Club- level 100 points to the 92 put up by their opponents, the 5th seeded JOHNSON UNIVERSITY (FL) SUNS.   ###   Meanwhile in the 3 spot the TOCCOA FALLS COLLEGE EAGLES ended the season for the 6th seeded PIEDMONT INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY CONQUERORS in an 84-78 game.   ###   And the 7th seeded TRINITY COLLEGE OF FLORIDA TIGERS lost to the 2nd seeded PENSACOLA CHRISTIAN COLLEGE EAGLES by a score of 81-70.

ozark christian college ambassadorsSOUTHWEST REGION – There was only one game in this region yesterday and it saw the 4th seeded OZARK CHRISTIAN COLLEGE AMBASSADORS take on the 5th seeded BARCLAY CHRISTIAN COLLEGE BEARS. The Ambassadors completely manhandled the hapless Bears, sending them home reeling from an 85-52 buttkicking.

Raritan Valley College Golden LionsREGION 219 – SEMIFINALS – The RARITAN VALLEY COLLEGE GOLDEN LIONS faced the MERCER COUNTY COLLEGE VIKINGS for the right to advance to the regional title game. The Golden Lions moved on with an exciting 71-62 victory over the Vikings.   ###   And in the other semifinal in Division Two, Region 19 the ESSEX COUNTY COLLEGE WOLVERINES scored a Century Club- level 113 points compared to the 91 put up by their opponents, the LACKAWANNA COLLEGE FALCONS. It will be the Golden Lions taking on the Wolverines in the championship game for the region. 

Mesa College Thunderbirds logoREGION 101 – The MESA COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS played host to the COCHISE COLLEGE APACHES yesterday. It was a hard-fought game between these two familar rivals in Division One, Region One and in the end the Thunderbirds emerged with a 75-66 win.   ###   And the ARIZONA WESTERN COLLEGE MATADORS took on their archrivals the EASTERN ARIZONA COLLEGE GILA MONSTERS in another hardcourt battle royal. The Matadors advanced to the next round by defeating the Gila Monsters by a score of 79-70. 

Delaware College Phantoms smallerREGION 319 – SEMIFINALS – In Division Three, Region Nineteen the 2nd seeded DELAWARE COLLEGE PHANTOMS defeated the 3rd seeded CAMDEN COLLEGE COUGARS by a final score of 88-75.   ###   And in the other semifinal for this Division and Region the top seeded BROOKDALE COLLEGE JERSEY BLUES, who are also the defending National Champions of NJCAA Division Three basketball, smacked down the 4 seeds, the UNION (NJ) COLLEGE OWLS in an authoritative 95-77 triumph. It will be the Jersey Blues versus the Phantoms for the Region 319 title.     

Utah State University Eastern Golden EaglesREGION 118 – In the opening round of this Regional Tournament the 4th seeded UTAH STATE UNIVERSITY- EASTERN GOLDEN EAGLES played the 5th seeded SNOW COLLEGE BADGERS. The Golden Eagles came back from a 37-34 Halftime deficit to win by a final score of 86-79.   ###   And in the other game in Region 118 yesterday the 6th seeded COLORADO NORTHWESTERN COLLEGE SPARTANS got off to a 6-0 lead against the 3rd seeded NORTH IDAHO COLLEGE CARDINALS but NIC came storming back. The Cardinals led 30-20 at the break and in a very defensive- minded Second Half North Idaho College won 58-53.

Irvine Valley College LasersSO-CAL OPENING ROUND – The 18th seeded IRVINE VALLEY COLLEGE LASERS upset the 15 seeds, the GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS, by a score of 54-50   ###   Meanwhile the 19th seeded VENTURA COLLEGE PIRATES managed the upset of the night by bringing down the 14th seeded MT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES, the defending champions of CCCAA basketball, in an 82-67 shocker   ###   The 13th seeded SAN DIEGO CITY COLLEGE KNIGHTS scored a Century Club- level 107 points to the 95 put up by the 20th seeded ALLAN HANCOCK COLLEGE BULLDOGS   ###   And in a 16 over 17 game the LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE VIKINGS defeated the SANTA ANA COLLEGE DONS 87-79.

The SAN JOAQUIN DELTA COLLEGE MUSTANGS came in as the 16 seeds and eliminated the 17th seeded DIABLO VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS (who SHOULD be called the Diablos) by a final score of 62-58.   ###   And in the other opening round game for the Nor-Cal Division the 15th seeded FOOTHILL COLLEGE OWLS won a nerve-wracking 65-63 Instant Classic against the 18th seeded DE ANZA COLLEGE DONS.
