RELIGIOUS FANATICS AND POLITICAL FANATICS

Political fanatics are every bit as repulsive as religious fanatics and they’re all determined to force the rest of us to live the way THEY think we should live. The major distinction is that religious fanatics like Muslims and Christians feel empowered to do so by their non-existent deities. On the political side American Liberal fanatics feel empowered to do so by their very real egos. Anybody who values their individuality and their freedom (“Liberals” have grown incredibly illiberal after all) can’t help but despise all of them.

The only reason that Conservatives are less intrusive right now is because they’ve become culturally marginalized and seem to enjoy flirting with political irrelevance. In any event the Conservative fanatics happen to lack the power they used to exert over politics and the culture at large so they are – at the present time – less effective at inflicting their rules on the rest of us.  

“Liberal Colonialism” however is very real and very effective at intruding on the private lives of the rest of us. Like Christian missionaries of long ago our Liberal “saviors” think they know what is best for everyone else and they view our increasing resentment toward them with the same combination of hostility and paternal condescension that those missionaries of old felt toward the indigenous populations they oppressed.

No specific issue in today’s installment. Just venting at the tendency of the political left and right to argue over which freedoms the rest of us “deserve” to keep.
