* OCTOBER 3RD *
CLASH IN THE GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE – Two Great American Conference rivals met on the gridiron last night. The HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON were on the road against the SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS, the team Coach Tommy Tuberville played his college ball for. The Bison logged a valuable road win in league play by doubling up on the Muleriders by a score of 28-14.
ROLE REVERSAL IN THE GULF SOUTH CONFERENCE – Oh how times have changed! There was a time when the UNIVERSITY OF WEST ALABAMA TIGERS were perennial doormats in the Gulf South Conference and the DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY STATESMEN were one of the perennial powers in the league. The Statesmen are down this year and the Tigers are very very up, coming in at number 14 in the rankings and crushing the visiting DSU team 48-14.
HOME, HOME ON MESABI RANGE – The MESABI RANGE COLLEGE NORSE, playing on a short week after their clash last Saturday with Rochester Tech, traveled to take on the ITASCA COLLEGE VIKINGS in a Scandinavian-themed gridiron Ragnarok. Both teams played hard as usual but when all the sturm und drang was over and done with the Norse emerged with a 31-22 victory.
THE NINETY-FIRST TIME IS THE CHARM – Last night the MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COLLEGE BULLDOGS and the homestanding PEARL RIVER COLLEGE WILDCATS fought like cats and dogs for the 91st time! The Bulldogs won this Instant Classic by a score of 19-17 ### And in another feline vs canine collision the EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS obliterated the HOLMES BULLDOGS 55-0 in their own house.
SCORING OVER FORTY – The COPIAH-LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK welcomed the ITAWAMBA COLLEGE INDIANS and sent them home reeling from a 48-7 thrashing. ### … And the JONES BOBCATS were on the road against the EAST CENTRAL COLLEGE WARRIORS. This game was another laughable blowout with the Bobcats eviscerating the Warriors by a final score of FORTY-SEVEN to NOTHING!
* OCTOBER 4TH *
NOISE IN THE NORTHEAST TEN CONFERENCE – Four Northeast Ten Conference teams were in action against each other last night. The UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAVEN CHARGERS traveled to take on the ASSUMPTION COLLEGE GREYHOUNDS, where Notre Dame’s Brian Kelly played his college ball. The Chargers led 7-6 by the 3rd Quarter in this Instant Classic and went on to win by a final score of 21-18 ### On the flip side the SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE OWLS demolished the visiting PACE UNIVERSITY SETTERS 47-18.
TEACHING A LESSON ON THE GRIDIRON – Meanwhile in the Garden State the TEACHER’S COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY LIONS played host to the MONTCLAIR STATE RED HAWKS. The Lions took it upon themselves to refute the old saying that “those who can’t – teach”. In an undeniable game for the ages TCNJ came out on top after four bruising quarters by a final score of 21-16.
VIKINGS MAULED BY LIONS – Another team named Lions was in action last night but this team won in an absolute, balls-to-the-wall blowout. The NASSAU COLLEGE LIONS were at home against the HUDSON VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS. Both teams were coming off wins but only one was able to keep that momentum going as Nassau College folded, spindled and mutilated the Vikings in a SIXTY-EIGHT to TWENTY laugher.
THE DEVIL YOU SAY! – There were a pair of teams with diabolical tie-ins playing against each other last night. The DIABLO VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS welcomed the MERCED COLLEGE BLUE DEVILS to their infernal lair. Unlike the Hudson Valley team called Vikings the Diablo Valley College Vikings emerged with a win in their game. Diablo Valley impaled the Blue Devils on their own pitchforks by a score of 47-18.
