The Westminster GriffinsNUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – The LEE UNIVERSITY FLAMES went into yesterday’s game as the number 3 team in the nation. The 19th ranked WESTMINSTER GRIFFINS hosted them and sent them home with a 95-82 loss despite a spirited comeback attempt by Lee in the closing minutes. The Griffins improve to 20-4 and the Flames fall to 21-3.  

rogers state hillcatsOTHER TOP 25 UPSETS – NAIA Division One – The 4th ranked WESTMONT WARRIORS fell on the road 78-75 to the SAN DIEGO CHRISTIAN COLLEGE HAWKS   ###   The (20) ROGERS STATE HILLCATS upended the number 9 OKLAHOMA BAPTIST BISON in a 59-55 defensive epic   ###   The 12th ranked HOPE INTERNATIONAL ROYALS were routed at home by the ever-tough CONCORDIA (CA) EAGLES by a score of 75-55   ###   The number 22 CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS wound up getting spanked and pantsed at the GEORGETOWN (KY) TIGERS  70-49 on Alumni Day   ###   The unranked TOUGALOO BULLDOGS edged the (23) PHILANDER SMITH PANTHERS in Overtime  77-76   ###   … And at 25 the ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM got extinguished by the MASTER’S MUSTANGS in a 91-81 road loss. 

Spring Arbor U CougarsTOP 25 UPSETS – NAIA DIVISION TWO – The unranked SPRING ARBOR COUGARS toppled the visiting number 4 INDIANA WESLEYAN WILDCATS in a 71-68 Instant Classic. The Cougars are now 17-9 with the Wildcats at 22-4   ###   … And the unlucky number 13 BETHEL (IN) PILOTS fell at home to the unranked ST FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS in an 80-79 nailbiter. Bethel falls to 20-6 while the Cougars improve to 16-10.

WallyWabash  Wabash Little GiantsTOP 25 UPSETS – NCAA DIVISION 3 – The 5th ranked STEVENS POINT POINTERS suffered a road loss to the LA CROSSE EAGLES by a score of 67-62   ###   The WABASH LITTLE GIANTS (logo at left) took down the number 8 WOOSTER SCOTS in a 55-48 defense-heavy homestand   ###   The 16th ranked CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT UNIVERSITY CAPTAINS suffered a home loss to the GREENSBORO PRIDE in a 72-69 thriller   ###   … And in a slight upset in the rankings the (23) ROSE- HULMAN ENGINEERS took it on the road and brought down the (22) TRANSYLVANIA PIONEERS by a modest score of 54-49.

Kansas Wesleyan U Coyotes logoCENTURY CLUB – The NAIA’s KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES lead off this category this week with their 108-86 home win over the BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS   ###   The WILLIAM PENN STATESMEN notched a road victory over the CLARKE CRUSADERS by a score of 102-72   ###   The INDIANA EAST RED WOLVES withstood an invasion by the POINT PARK PIONEERS in a 100-96 game for the ages   ###   The INDIANA DABNEY UNIVERSITY ROLLERS plucked every single feather off the ILLINOIS TECH SCARLET HAWKS in a 119-64 laugher   ###   The CONCORDIA (TX) TORNADOS blew away the HARDIN-SIMMONS COWBOYS  101-67   ###   … And the BETHANY LUTHERAN VIKINGS pillaged the NORTHLAND JACKS by an embarrassing score of 106-54.

Vassar College BrewersWORKIN’ OVERTIME – We start with two Double Overtime affairs: the VASSAR COLLEGE BREWERS outlasted the ST LAWRENCE SAINTS  84-80 while the MARIETTA PIONEERS held serve against the HEIDELBERG STUDENT PRINCES with a tight 92-89 victory   ###   In single- Overtime action: the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS defeated the visiting BETHANY SWEDES by a score of 83-81   ###   The BRESCIA BEARCATS sent the BEREA MOUNTAINEERS home with a 69-67 loss   ###   The LAKELAND MUSKIES held serve against the AURORA SPARTANS  99-94   ###   … And the LUTHER NORSE notched a 93-86 road win over the SIMPSON COLLEGE STORM.

Skidmore ThoroughbredsTOP 15 UPSETS – D3 HOCKEY – The unranked FREDONIA STATE BLUE DEVILS upset the visiting number 9 PLATTSBURGH STATE CARDINALS by a score of 2-1. The Blue Devils move to 6-13-2 while the Cardinals are now 14-6-1   ###   The unlucky number 13 BABSON BEAVERS fell on the road to the SKIDMORE THOROUGHBREDS (logo at left) in a 3-0 surprise   ###   The MANHATTANVILLE VALIANTS fought the 11th ranked NEUMANN KNIGHTS to a 2-2 Overtime tie on their own ice   ###   … And the WESLEYAN CARDINALS matched the (14) WILLIAMS EPHS (pronounced “eephs”) in a 0-0 goalie’s duel.

New England College logoSHUTOUTS – The NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE PILGRIMS (love that name) blanked the homestanding ST MICHAEL’S PURPLE KNIGHTS  4-0. The Pilgrims improve to 8-12-2 and the Purple Knights fall to 7-13   ###   The SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE UNIVERSITY PENMEN took it on the road and won a 2-0 affair with the ASSUMPTION GREYHOUNDS   ###   The CURRY COLONELS were left scoreless at home as they fell to the WESTERN NEW ENGLAND GOLDEN BEARS  3-0   ###   … And the ST JOHN’S JOHNNIES won a 6-0 laugher against the ST MARY’S (MN) CARDINALS.

Connecticut College CamelsCLASSICS ON ICE – The CONNECTICUT COLLEGE CAMELS skated onto the home ice of the TUFTS JUMBOS and defeated them once again, this time by a score of 3-2   ###   The AUSBURG AUGGIES held serve against the ST OLAF OLES in a 2-1 Old Time Hockey epic   ###   The MARIAN (WI) SABRES won a 3-2 home stand against the LAWRENCE VIKINGS   ###   The UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND NOR’EASTERS notched a 3-2 road win over the SOUTHERN MAINE HUSKIES   ###   … And the CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS won an exciting 4-3 game with the MORRISVILLE STATE MUSTANGS.
