USAO TRIUMPHANT – The NAIA’s UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS (logo at left) handily defeated the MIDAMERICA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY EVANGELS in both games of yesterday’s doubleheader. The Drovers (love that name) crushed the Evangels in their own house by scores of 10-4 and 14-3.
TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS – The LSU-SHREVEPORT PILOTS (as in riverboat pilots) are the number 1 team in the NAIA rankings and took 2 games from the HOUSTON-VICTORIA JAGUARS in a tight 3-1 contest followed by an 8-0 blowout.
INSTANT CLASSICS – The 2nd-ranked OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY STARS won an epic duel with the ROGERS STATE UNIVERSITY HILLCATS. The Stars were on the road but prevailed 6-5 in the opening game of this SAC battle royal. The Hillcats defeated OCU 3-1 in an equally exciting game 2.
NOT-SO-CLASSIC – The number 3 LEE FLAMES incinerated the (15) SOUTHERN POLYTECHNIC RUNNING HORNETS in a 7-0 yawner and the 4th-ranked EMBRY RIDDLE AERONAUTICAL UNIVERSITY EAGLES were routed at home by the ever-tough UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA BEAUFORT SAND SHARKS (love that name) by a score of 9-2.
MARATHON MEN – It took an astonishing SEVENTEEN INNINGS for a final result between the SIENA HEIGHTS SAINTS and the LOURDES UNIVERSITY GRAY WOLVES. The Saints at long last emerged with an 8-7 win in this rotation-killing ordeal. Meanwhile, the TRINITY CHRISTIAN TROLLS defeated the CARDINAL STRITCH WOLVES in 13 innings. The final score was Trolls 4 Wolves 3.
THE SOUND AND THE FURY – The FAULKNER EAGLES, ranked at number 6 in the polls, took down the MOBILE RAMS in a 3-1 opus while in a doubleheader clash of teams called PIONEERS, 8th-ranked POINT PARK defeated MALONE UNIVERSITY 4-2 but lost the 2nd game 4-3 on Malone’s last at-bat.
COUGAR TOWN – The (9) SPRING ARBOR COUGARS dismembered the ST FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS in a ridiculous 11-0 outing.
ROAD DOGS – The number 10 TN WESLEYAN BULLDOGS took both games in a road doubleheader against the POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS by scores of 6-2 and 5-0.
HEART OF A CHAMPION – In a pair of schizophrenic games the defending champs, the (11) CONCORDIA (CA) EAGLES (who I still say should change their name to the Condors) split against the WESTMONT WARRIORS. The Eagles took one game 12-5 but fell in the other 11-5.
WHAT ABOUT BOBCATS? – The 14th-ranked ST THOMAS (FL) BOBCATS handily defeated the SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE by a score of 8-3, but had a much tighter 9-7 win in the other game.
DEMOCRACY VS ARISTOCRACY – The number 17 AUBURN UNIVERSITY-MONTGOMERY SENATORS split a doubleheader with the BREWTON PARKER BARONS. The Senators took their game by a score of 14-2 with the homestanding Barons winning theirs with a 6-2 final score.
OTHER RESULTS IN THE RANKINGS – The (16) LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS won a very tight 5-4 game against the PIKEVILLE BEARS but then turned on the power to crush the Bears 13-1 in the 2nd game *** The (18) FREED-HARDEMAN LIONS split a doubleheader with the TREVECCA NAZARENE TROJANS, winning 5-4 and losing 8-7 *** The ROOSEVELT UNIVERSITY LAKERS fell to the (20) JUDSON EAGLES in a 13-0 blowout and a closer 6-3 affair *** The (21) GEORGETOWN (KY) TIGERS squeaked out an 8-7 win over the CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS followed by a 5-2 victory *** The 22nd-ranked BELHAVEN BLAZERS split with the WILLIAM CAREY CRUSADERS, winning 4-3 in 10 innings but losing 3-0 and at 23, the TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS took it on the road and defeated the OTTAWA (KS) BRAVES 8-5 and 10-4.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The NEBRASKA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY PRAIRIE WOLVES edged the DOANE TIGERS 3-2 *** The ST MARY (KS) SPIRES won both games of a tight doubleheader, defeating the MCPHERSON BULLDOGS 1-0 and 2-1
SLAUGHTER RULE – The game between the NORTHWOOD (TX) KNIGHTS and the TEXAS WESLEYAN RAMS was called after 7 innings with the Rams obliterating the Knights 14-2.
