GUILFORD TAKES DOWN NUMBER TWO TEAM IN THE NATION – The GUILFORD QUAKERS shocked D3’s 2nd-ranked VIRGINIA WESLEYAN MARLINS on their own court yesterday. The Quakers pulled off a 60-55 upset for the ages.
WPI DOWNS MIT – In a case of Engineer on Engineer violence the number 3 MIT ENGINEERS were likewise upset at home. Their 80-68 loss came at the hands of the WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS.
MORE D3 UPSETS – In keeping with yesterday’s theme of ranked D3 teams getting upset by unranked opponents the 6th- ranked MARY HARDIN- BAYLOR CRUSADERS were taken down by the MCMURRY WARHAWKS, who will be moving to D2 next season. The final score was 75-71. Yesterday also saw the number 11 STEVENS POINT POINTERS fall at home to the RIVER FALLS FALCONS 82-75 and the 12th- ranked CLAREMONT-MUDD- SCRIPPS STAGS were upset by the WHITTIER POETS in an 88-85 Double Overtime affair. Capping off this rough day for the Top 25 were the HIRAM TERRIERS, who defeated the number 21 WITTENBERG TIGERS by a score of 65-61.
DROVERS OVER THE STARS – The UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND ARTS OF OKLAHOMA DROVERS upset the OKLAHOMA CITY UNIVERSITY STARS in their own building in a 77-69 Instant Classic.
DON’T MESS WITH FUTURE PHARMACISTS – The ST LOUIS COLLEGE OF PHARMACY EUTECTICS logged a road win over the BOYCE COLLEGE BULLDOGS by a score of 78-62. Once again Balladeer’s Blog’s Rule of More Unique Nicknames applies as a cool-named team defeated a team with one of the most overused nicknames in college sports.
TRIPLE-SHIFT – This week’s Marathon Game Winner was the Triple Overtime epic between the WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN and the ASHFORD SAINTS. The Statesmen emerged with a 109-108 victory.
BUTT-KICKINGS – The 13th- ranked FRANKLIN AND MARSHALL DIPLOMATS shoved the Schleswig- Holstein Protocols down the throats of the MCDANIEL GREEN TERROR 70-46 … In the NAIA the 17th- ranked EVANGEL CRUSADERS routed the PERU STATE BOBCATS 103-58 … The number 21 ST XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS mauled the PURDUE-CALUMET PEREGRINES by a score of 104-66 … The NAIA’s 12th- ranked MSUN LIGHTS blasted the ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS 73-45 … The MIDAMERICA NAZARENE PIONEERS crushed the CULVER-STOCKTON WILDCATS 81-47.
