Welcome back to the Independent Voter site Balladeer’s Blog, the Open City in an America increasingly torn apart by Liberal zealots and Conservative zealots. This is the only place on the web that is truly non-partisan in its criticism of the political fanatics of the left and the right. No matter what your political persuasion there’s plenty here that will entertain you because I don’t show any reverence for either side of the spectrum.
America’s Liberals and Conservatives are so out of touch with reality that they actually think everybody has to be either one or the other. Because I make no secret out of the fact that I think they are both equally narrow-minded and equally intolerant of political diversity they sometimes try to call me a “fence-sitter” or a “middle of the roader”. This illustrates their lack of understanding of the terms.
A fence-sitter is someone who refrains from making their feelings on the issues clear. They avoid committing to one side of the question or the other, trying to skate by without angering anyone. Regular readers of Balladeer’s Blog know that I’m not bashful about clearly expressing my views, its just that, like with many other people, I don’t force myself to mindlessly adopt a whole grocery list of opinions just to make sure I conform to either the Liberal mold or the Conservative one.
For example, here’s exactly where I stand on two issues that no “fence-sitter” or “middle of the roader” would clarify their views on. 1. I support gay marriage. 2. I also believe that gun ownership is a civil liberty protected by the 2nd amendment of the Bill of Rights. When I express that first opinion right-wing zealots sometimes accuse me of being gay. When I express the second opinion left-wing zealots sometimes accuse me of being a “gun nut”. Well, I’m not gay and I’ve never owned a gun.
The fact that Liberals and Conservatives behave that way is a perfect demonstration of what’s wrong with them. They are so fanatical and partisan that they cannot comprehend why someone would support a right they know will never apply to them. I’ll address other issues in future posts but for now these two examples will do. In some countries around the world people are hoping to add some of the liberties we have in the United States at the same time that Liberals and Conservatives spend all their time arguing over which of those liberties need limited next.
If this country ever is torn to pieces by these uncompromising fools a nice epitaph for the former United States might be “They were so resentful of each other’s freedoms that they brought on a disaster that left all of them with no freedoms at all.”
Remember, you can vote however you like. Vote for one party for that office, another party for this one, and the next election you can vote the opposite way if that’s what your conscience tells you. Vote third parties all you want. These lunatics with the D’s and R’s after their names have no power over your vote or your opinions. You don’t have to conform to all the other traditional views of one side of the political spectrum or the other just because you agree with one of them. Plus, it’s fun watching political fanatics froth at the mouth with anger when they find they can’t pigeonhole you in any way.

I have watched i little about how they are getting on. They have put forward no ways to fix Americas problems. All they can take about is each other.
But as long as they say they are against , gay marriage, abortion and for guns that keeps everyone happy in their dim minds.
Yeah, that’s partly why I started this new series. Plus I mentioned being for gay marriage and for gun ownership because the gay marriage issue is stereotypically “left-wing” and the gun position is stereotypically “right-wing” and I think we all need to admit we have SOME views that fall on both sides of the spectrum.
I don’t know where i would fit, as i’m for gun control, gay marriage and abortion. I’m not gay 🙂
They might say i’m a communist to put me in a list.
Ha! Yeah, some people still try to throw the label “communist” around.
Curious… have they always been like this throughout history?
And I am growing fond of the word, “zealots”.
I personally do not feel that anyone is truly or can be truly one or the other in anything. And so many people agree… so why do they froth at the mouth trying to get people to see the world through their eyes when everyone wears a different prescription?
Hi there! Well, not all the way through history, but ever since the late 1960’s American political discourse has been frozen in this same tiresome “liberals vs conservatives” mold. The two groups are getting so shrill and so hostile to compromise that America is beginning to feel like pre-Civil War Spain in the 1930’s.
I’m glad you like the word zealots! It applies more and more to Liberals and Conservatives since they both simple-mindedly think of themselves as “the good guys” and everyone who disagrees with them as “the bad guys.”
I don’t have an answer for your final question. I often wish America had multiple viable political parties to avoid this simplistic “either/or” attitude that is tailor-made for the kind of irrational factional hatred that the Democrats and Republicans thrive on.
The Open City…Gosh, how Iove that! And I also love it when you tackle ‘delicate’ subjects in your direct, no-beating-around-the-bush style…I reckon your blog is going to be a hotspot now that you’re election campaign is picking up pace…
Thank you Didi! You’re the greatest! You said it! The non-stop political posturing should annoy me enough that I will have plenty of these posts between now and November.
Really nice to see something besides the same old liberal vs conservative crap. They are doing nothing but destroying the country.
Thanks. I know exactly how you feel.
Hi, I put this on twitter … I think u’d be srprzd how mny ppl feel this way … the country cud go down and libs and cons still push the same tired messages …
I agree. They care only about their pet issues of the moment, nothing larger.

Exactly! Thanks for the comment!
I like this take on how lame liberals and conservatives are. Your right that not being either one is not the same as being a fence-sitter.
Thanks! I’m glad you agree!
It’s funny, I own guns, and proud I do, that pleases the rightist zealots, but I think the system could use a little tweaking, which pleases the leftist zealots. Don’t like the illegal immigrant thing, but I think there’s too many of them to deport, plus, it’s a chance for the parties to work together, though the odds of that happening are pretty slim. I love the military, but I think that in the age of guerilla warfare, we don’t need a bustling legion, like Ancient Rome. I’m a troll…I MEAN, mediator to both spectrums.
Ha! I know how you feel. One thing I really get sick of is when Liberals accuse me of being a conservative and Conservatives accuse me of being a liberal.
On the military I think everybody has to grow up and realize that ANY decision to invade a country will result in an occupation that will take at least two full decades to restore true order. That’s because decades ago it was still acceptable to bombard and crush a country until all possible elements of future resistance had been destroyed. In more recent conflicts the losing side knows to just surrender while their network has sufficient resources intact to wage guerilla war for several years. They play the Western Democracies like a piano and know that after enough election cycles one party will make enough political capital out of “bringing the troops home” that they just have to outlast the comparatively brief occupation time. My point is we should all know in advance by now that a decision to go to war represents a decades-long commitment, not an intense few years followed by victory parades.
Well, in that case, best of luck to them, they’ll need it. In the meantime, we will watch as both sides blow their own toes off on issues like gun control, abortion, immigration, military and veteran affairs, economics, climate change and global warming, foreign affairs, and all other government SNAFUs and FUBARs that neither liberal nor conservative platforms are man enough to own up to.
