NCAA DIVISION 3 PRESEASON TOP 25: GUESS WHO NUMBER ONE AND NUMBER TWO ARE

For the last six seasons in a row the Whitewater Warhawks and the Mount Union Purple Raiders have faced each other in the D3 championship game. Proving once again that the football gods love drama, the Yankees and Red Sox of D3 football have split those games 3-3. It comes as no surprise, therefore, that once again UWW and Mt Union are ranked at one and two in the preseason poll. The defending champion Warhawks are at the top of the poll (“Ma” – rimshot) with the Purple Raiders right behind them. No surprise at number three, either. The Wesley Woverines are still playing third banana to the Big Two. Last season even with home field advantage in their playoff matchup Wesley couldn’t break through and defeat the Warhawks in the semifinals. Should Division 3 just have the Warhawks and the Purple Raiders play for the championship on Labor Day weekend and cancel the rest of the season? Of course not, but jokes like that will continue to be made until someone rises up and actually takes down one of the Big Two in the playoffs. Here’s the complete Top 25:

1. UWW Warhawks … 2. Mt Union Purple Raiders … 3. Wesley Wolverines … 4. North Central Cardinals … 5. St Thomas Tommies … 6. Mary Hardin- Baylor Crusaders … 7. Bethel (MN) Royals … 8. Wheaton Thunder … 9.Linfield Wildcats … 10. Coe Kohawks … 11. Thomas More Saints … 12.Montclair State RedHawks … 13. Cortland State Red Dragons …14. Ohio Northern Polar Bears … 15. Wartburg Knights … 16. Hardin-Simmons Cowboys … 17. Cal Lutheran Kingsmen … 18. Alfred Saxons … 19. Wabash Little Giants … 20. Wittenberg Tigers … 21. Trine Thunder … 22. Rowan Profs … 23. Stevens Point Pointers … 24. Franklin Grizzlies … 25. St John’s (MN) Johnnies

I have a feeling this is the year Wesley or North Central beats them in the playoffs!
