ELVIRA AND WOLFMAN MAC TONIGHT

Well, it’s the weekend, which of course turns one’s thoughts to Movie Hosts and B-Movies. I like to let people who are into these types of shows know what flicks are being shown this week. Elvira’s Movie Macabre, which to remind people, features recently-made episodes, not reruns of her 1980’s run with the show, is presenting the original Night of the Living Dead. As always, part of the fun with this flick is the way special effects have definitely passed it by, and another part of the fun is how another movie host -Bill Cardille himself, the host of Pittsburgh’s Chiller Theater (as Chilly Billy Cardilly) appears in the movie as a reporter. Elvira’s current schtick is to periodically insert joking remarks directly into her movies in the way old-time movie hosts like Ghoulardi, Sinister Seymour and many others did. Elvira’s Movie Macabre is shown on the cable channel called ThisTV on Saturdays and Sundays. Consult your local listings for the times.

Wolfman Mac, who hosts B-Movies from the Chiller Drive-In, into which our friendly lycanthrope was once driven by a torch-bearing mob, will be showing the Larry Buchanan schlocker Attack of the the (sic) Eye Creatures. That film was, of course, one of Larry’s color remakes of old 50’s black and white bombs. In the same way that Buchanan’s Zontar, The Thing From Venus was a remake of It Conquered The World, this flick is a remake of Invasion of the Saucer Men. The title was originally just The Eye Creatures, but was changed, with nobody catching the unnecessary  additional  “the”, giving us Attack of the the Eye Creatures, the most beloved bad movie title glitch this side of Rat Pfink A Boo Boo. The Eye Creatures have lots of eyes all over their bodies but no weapons, strange for a race capable of interstellar travel. They apparently thought Earth could be conquered by just shuffling around in groups, the way the zombies in Night of the Living Dead do.   Wolfman Mac’s show airs on RetroTV Saturday nights at 10:00.
