MILESTONES IN THE HISTORY OF STUPIDITY: PEOPLE SLAIN OVER A BOOK BEING BURNED

As repulsive as I find the act of book-burning the latest savage acts being performed in the name of religion are provoking even more stupidity on the part of people who blame the Koran-burner for the deaths instead of the actual people who are mindlessly rioting and killing people over the act.

If a Bible was burned and Christian loonies were killing people over it I would blame the Christian loonies for the deaths, not the Bible-burner. If an American flag was burned and right-wing loonies were killing people over it I would blame the right-wing loonies for the deaths, not the flag- burner. And remember when Muslims were rioting and burning down buildings because people had DRAWN PICTURES OF THEIR IDIOTIC “PROPHET”?

If people think it’s possible to live in a way that WON’T provoke religious lunatics they’re fooling themselves. How about if religious loonies start killing people because abortion is legal in our part of the world? Will people argue that we should outlaw abortion to prevent them from savagely rioting and killing? How about if they start killing people because the Western world provides opportunities for women? How about if they start rioting and killing because the Western world is more open-minded about homosexuality, even to the point of legalizing civil unions for gay couples? Should we let superstitious maniacs dictate our attitudes on that?

And do the blood-soaked religious fanatics committing these savage acts seriously believe they can kill everyone who refuses to live by their backward-thinking, outdated, irrational belief system? To paraphrase the movie Casablanca, “Not even Muslim fanatics can kill that fast.” Join the 21st Century, folks! You might actually enjoy it!

Your post is filled with common sense and responsible thinking. Why does the world only take the ‘short’ view? Ill never know.

  2. Thanks for the comment! I don’t know either. SO many people are hypocritical cowards because they’ll stand up to Christian loonies but ONLY Christian loonies. When it comes to Muslim fanatics they twist logic as severely as they have to in order to make it sound like the savage acts they commit are somehow justified.

  3. I’m completely with you on this one. I don’t know what it’s like in America, but here in the UK the obsession with ‘political correctness’ has lead to an obsession with not offending the minorities (especially religious ones) which, in turn, has lead to some form of ‘reversed racism’: if you’re a white Christian, you’d better keep a low profile and your mouth shut, or else you might offend the ‘others’ and get in trouble. Not long ago, a Christian nurse lost her job because she refused to take off the cross she was wearing on a necklace around her neck. She had been told to do so, as she was making non-Christian patients uncomfortable!! The same rules do not apply to Muslims, of course. In their fight against killer bugs in UK hospitals, the NHS enforced a rule according to which all medical staff must wear short sleeves at all times, only to amend it by saying that female Muslim staff are exempt from the rule because their religion prohibits them from bearing their arms. I don’t think I need to add much else. In this ‘Animal Farm’ of a world that we live in, we’re all equal, but some are more equal than others.
I’m not anti-Muslim and have quite a few Muslim friends, its the duplicity and unfairness with which these issues are dealt with that make me angry. And you what? My Muslim friends agree with me.

  4. Thanks for the reply. It is even WORSE here in the U.S. I bash all religions and I’ve gotten sick of how when I do it to Christianity it’s applauded as “daring” irreverent” and “iconoclastic” but when I have the same attitiude toward Islam too many grovelers try to tell me it’s “hate speech”.

The double standard you mentioned is in effect here, too. It even has trickled down to the world of bad movies – there was a movie long ago called Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter and more recently a film called Jesus Christ: Serial Rapist. Can you IMAGINE how many people would be dead by now if a movie called Muhammad: Child Molester was released? People love to beat up on Christianity while ignoring the biggest bully of the moment, Islam.

Good blog. On this subject I suggest you seek out a Australian performer named Tim Minchin, I believe he is still touring the US. He does a excellent bit on the sacredness of texts.

Burning books is futile. The words will exist forever thanks to internet so what is the point of burning the book other than upset people. We all have things which we use to help us through the day, if they wanna believe in God, Allah or that the moon is made of cheese, if it helps em fair play.

However if they start trying to convert me thats when I’m gonna have issues!

    • Thanks for the thoughtful response. I agree but I also have a problem when one religion is set up as the one that we “dare not offend” while practitioners of all other religions are told they just have to deal with it when their sacred faith is ridiculed, or say, a crucifix is photographed submerged in urine. I also have a problem when people who aren’t Muslims are expected to live according to the silly, superstitious, sexist, backward- thinking laws of Islam so as not to “offend.”

  6. Good post and i agree with every thing you said. I made a post about the Koran burning as well, not as goos as your’s 🙂

  7. Good to see someone with the courage to criticize Islam and not back down.

  8. Thanks! Any religion whose practicioners still behave this way on a large scale needs a reformation in the worst way.

    I acturlaly also agree.

    And I am a Christian.

I personally find the whole ides that bshing Christianity is OK but nothign els can be insulted is incredibly unjust, but as I am a Christian I am told its just because of that. ‘ve even been told that I’d never defend anyone elses Relgion ad only care about my own as a way to dismiss my point. Never mind that I have actualy defended rom unjustified comments Muslims and Mormons and Catholics ( yes I think Catholics are also Christian) from unfair claims, Im supposedly only personally vested in my own.

That sid, Atheists can be just as bad. Not all midn yiou but there are those They want the unlimited right to Question “religion’ and think that they have a monopoly on logic and Reason and so should have the unmitigated Right to ridicule and attack anyoen who is “Religious’ but the moment you question their own presumptiosn you are being offensive.

I was actually banned from some places, like Debunking Christianity, for merley sayign that I don’t think Mr. Loftus is non-religous at all. Atheists may say that because they are Athesists they have no Religion, but Religion is not the same thing as Theism, Religion is simply a Philosophical Model designe ot help us understand our world, and Loftus’s own Humanism is really a Religion itself. I also challenged his Sacred cow of how Logical and Rational he was given that in hiw own “Testimony” of how he became an Atheist he had ourely emotional reasons for his surrende of CHristianity.

And let snot forget how the “Freedom From religion Foundation” goes about suing peopel for praying on Public Monuments. (No exageration.)

Personally I think the owrld is insane these days.

Just look at the Ten Commandments in Courthouses. Soemhow these are offensive. They come from a Judeo-Christian backgroudn and not veryone beelives in them so therefore its a duty to be offended by them! Yet, the same Logic is not applied to that Blindfolded Lady on many courthoe lawns, who also happens ot be the Greek/Roman goddess Themis, Why is the Pagan goddess Hemis allowed and not the Ten Commandments? Shouldn’t she be offensive too?

Don’t mistake my meanign here, I don’t really want to remove Themis from Courouses, but I also foudn it barmy that peopel were upset over the Ten Commandments. Yet they have a specificl Relgious bckground, but so does Themis. In the ocntext of Culture though they both represent the same thing. Law.

Personally even if I were an Atheists I’d still fight to keep these thigns simply becuse they have a storng cultural signifigance. Just like I’d want the Bibel read in Schools alongside the Iliad and other works.

But no, because its the Bibel its offensive. Becuase its Christian it must be removed and its bodk to question it.

Then to ad dinsult to injury you cant insult Muslims. You can’t even insult Atheists. No oen else.

    It is a double styandard.

And no, I dont want the double standard to be reversed so that CHristianity is excluively protected. But I do think these thigns are getting out of hand.

    • Thanks for the thoughtful response. If you visit my blog often you’ll see that I make a point of mentioning the gutless double standard where people try to act tough by trashing Christianity but crawl on their bellies for Islam. I don’t belong to any of the organized religions and in fact I’ve trashed religion most of my life and I can honestly say it’s like there’s a target on Christianity’s back. Trashing it is de riguer. These days the only religion it takes balls to criticize is Islam.

  10. Well said !!! I hate all this PC bullshit. I had a rant about it a while ago as well. It seems to be invading every facet of life. In 2007 I went back to Oz for a visit and was surprised at all the Christmas lights that were outside EVERYWHERE. A friend said it was a backlash to Muslim culture as they were complaining about all the Christian stuff at Christmas. HELLO – you go to live in what is basically a Christian based country – what do you expect ???

    • I know what you mean, Jo. The thing is I’ve been a basher of religion since my teens, but I I bash ALL religions. This pathetic way that gutless grovelers expect all of us to crawl for Islam is sickening.
