THIS DATE IN ENGLISH CIVIL WAR HISTORY

March 26th, 1643 – William Waller and his Parliamentarian forces take the Royalist stronghold of Malmesbury just four days after Prince Rupert assigned some of his troops to secure the city. This is the opening round in a back and forth possession of Malmesbury but eventually the Parliamentarians win out and hold the city through the end of the war.
