THIS DATE IN ENGLISH CIVIL WAR HISTORY

March 18th, 1643 – Having gathered reinforcements for his Royalist army at Latham Hall, the Earl of Derby leads his forces in an assault on the castle at Lancaster. When the Parliamentarian forces in the castle repel their assault they take out their frustration on the helpless townspeople, sacking and burning their city.
