THIS DATE IN ENGLISH CIVIL WAR HISTORY

February 22nd, 1643 – After seventeen days at sea, Queen Henrietta Marie arrives in Bridlington with the professional army she raised for her husband’s cause as well as two million pounds worth of supplies. The Queen and her ships make port despite a bombardment by the Parliamentarian navy. When warmer weather arrives she will christen herself “Her She-Majesty, La Generalissima” and start off with her convoy to link up with her husband, King Charles the First.
