February 21st, 1643 – Chudleigh’s Parliamentarian forces attacked Sir Nicholas Slanning’s Royalist army holding Modbury. The Parliamentarians forced the Royalists to abandon the city and retreat to Plympton. The Royalists lost 250 dead and wounded plus one thousand muskets and five cannon.
