NOTEWORTHY RESULTS FROM YESTERDAY’S COLLEGE HOCKEY GAMES

Number One Survives A Scare In OT – The Top-ranked Oswego State Lakers blew a 4-0 lead to the Fredonia Blue Devils but went on to win in overtime by a score of 5-4. Paul “Not The Comedian” Rodrigues came through with his lucky 7th goal of the season to spare his team from a monumentally embarrassing collapse.

NESCAC Interlock Action – That may sound like a feature your car dealer would hype while trying to sell you a new vehicle, but it actually refers to yesterday’s clash between the defending champions, the Norwich Cadets, and the Trinity Bantams. Titanic Tory Allan scored what wound up being the game-winning goal in the 2nd period, assisted by Greg “The Edge” Eskedjian and Christophe “That’s Not A Typo” Pacquet.

Who Knew Camels Would Out-Perform Polar Bears On Ice? – The Connecticut College Camels put up a pair of goals in the 2nd period and then held off a late Bowdoin empty-net assault to take down the 4th-ranked Polar Bears by a score of 2-1. Camels Goaltender Andrew Margolin, “Marvelous Margolin” himself, became the first man between the pipes to hold Bowdoin under 3 goals so far this season.

“Hello, Neumann” – The Manhattanville Valiants suffered their worst loss of the season Friday night to the Neumann Knights by a score of 5-2 and on Saturday found themselves trailing that same team 1-0. The Valiants proved unflappable (Well, that’s what I’ve heard. Maybe they flap sometimes) and went on to score a trio of unanswered goals to win by a score of 3-1. Valiants goaltender, Pierre-Oliver “Kid Twist” Lemieux, turned aside 25 of Neumann’s 26 shots on goal for the win.

Spartans Down Lord Jeffs – The Castleton State Spartans kept pace in the conference standings with Norwich by defeating the Amherst Lord Jeffs 3-2 in overtime. Castleton’s Colin Murray, “The Prime Minister”, evened the score at 2 goals apiece with just under 3 minutes left in the 3rd period. Nick “Lazarus” Lazorko scored the game winner off an assist from Brett “Dr Z” Zeggill with 1:29 to play in overtime to give the Spartans their 11th straight victory.

Gusties Blown Over By Johnnies – In Collegeville, MN, a place I still refuse to believe is real (I’m kidding!), the St John’s Johnnies defeated the Gustavus Adolphus Gusties by a score of 3-1. This win ended a three-game losing streak for the erstwhile Johnnies, who next week will leave Collegeville for Townsville to take on the ever-tough Power Puff Girls.

Lindenwood Mauls Central Oklahoma – The Lindenwood Lions utterly obliterated the Central Oklahoma Bronchos (that’s how they spell it) yesterday 8-1 after pounding them 6-2 Friday night. “Joltin'” Jeremy Meletti had a Hat Trick in a game where it seemed like even the mascot scored a goal. In the net for Lindenwood was freshman Kent Henry, “The Manitoba Mammoth” himself, who stopped 11 shots on goal for his fifth win of the season.
