Comment: No, their mascot isn’t a crying U.S. Senator standing in falling snow, it’s the fish called Muskies. Muskingum’s nickname and logo combine to give their teams that “oddball cool” feel that I love about so many college sports teams.

I am wikipedia’ing a “Musky fish” right now. How do people come up with these things?
I think Muskies sounds good with Muskingum, that’s why I picked them for my latest Cool-Named Sports Team.
Have you seen pics of those things? Huge and ugly! Apparently so much so the natives of the area called it a word that literally means “ugly pike” (which is double hurtful because pike are already pretty damn ugly)
Ha! Well, I still like the oddball cool of it. You should see the team names I like in my various Top 20 lists!
I want to play for Muskingum when I graduate. I play volleyball.
I’m glad if this listing helped you decide on where you want to go to college! Take care and thanks for commenting.
Hey guys we got the name Muskies because it is the top preditor in salt water lakes. It can grow to be up to 10′ in length and has razor sharp teeth. Muskies is short for the Muskolongue fish (Muskie) and the name Muskingum is a native american name, and translates as village along the river. Another interesting fact is that Muskingum’s Official school colors are NOT red and black as pictured above, but Magenta and Black! (Magenta is a bright Pink)
Great! Thanks for the info! I got the photo from various Muskingum sites, though, so they may need to address the color situation.
