The Marian University Knights (helmet at left) gave me another excuse to pat myself on the back for predicting their football ascent back in the 2010 (yes, 2010) preseason. The Knights not only reached their first ever number one football ranking by unseating the previously top ranked St Xavier Cougars last Saturday but are the number 1 seed for the NAIA’s 16 team playoff field for 2011. The William Penn Statesmen were once again left standing at the altar but with only themselves to blame after blowing yesterday’s final regular season game. Here are the first round matchups set for next Saturday afternoon. Tomorrow I’ll examine the NCAA Divisions 3 and 2 playoff fields.
1) MARIAN KNIGHTS host the 16) GRAND VIEW VIKINGS 1pm ET
2) CC FIGHTING SAINTS (defending champs) host the 15) VCS VIKINGS 1:07 pm ET
3) GEORGETOWN (KY) TIGERS host the 14) BENEDICTINE RAVENS 1:30 pm ET
4) MNU PIONEERS host the 13) SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM 1pm ET
5) ST XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS host the 12) BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS 1pm ET
6) MORNINGSIDE MUSTANGS host the 11) ST FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS 1pm ET
7) MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS host the 10) ST FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS TBD
8) AZUSA PACIFIC COUGARS host the 9) OTTAWA (KS) BRAVES TBD

Thanks for the pingback!
NAIA football needs more pub. Never heard of it until I discovered your blog this year.
I couldn’t agree more!
ur a good person for showcasing the NAIA colleges. They deserve more publicity.
Thank you!!!
It was great to see St Xavier win the title! I doubt they can repeat, though, I think CC will regain the title next year.
Thanks for commenting! I guese we’ll see next season!
Crimson Storm and the Braves have the best names but it looks like Marian, the Cougars and the Fighting Saints play the best football.
Interesting take on all that. SXU did win it all.
Hi there! Great to see NAIA sports get attention. God bless you.
Always glad to spread the word about college sports!
I think more women would be into sports if everybody made it as much fun as u do.
Well, thank you! That’s nice of you!
