Instead of my usual musings on the subject here’s yet another person (Daniel Greenfield) reflecting on the way 21st Century Liberalism (really illiberalism) is all about self-congratulations.
“Intelligence to a modern liberal isn’t depth, it’s appearance. It isn’t even an intellectual quality, but a spiritual quality. Self-anointed compassionate people who care about others feel they are always ‘smarter’, no matter how stupid they might be, because they always talk about how much they care about the world around them.”
“Obama and his audience mistake their orgy of mutual flattery for intelligence and depth … Liberalism isn’t really about making the world a better place. It’s about reassuring (themselves) that they are good people.”
