The defending champs fought back to make it a 17-16 game by Halftime but the Knights added 14 points in the 3rd Quarter while a 4th Quarter Safety represented the only points the Vikings put on the board in the 2nd Half. QB Hayden Northern threw for a career-high 319 yards and 3 Touchdowns in this 31-18 shocker.

Lindsey_Wilson_KYTHE BLUE RAIDERS ANNIHILATE D2’s KWC – Nearly each week of every college football season at least one NAIA team upsets a team from the NCAA Division TWO. This is similar to when a 1AA team upsets a 1A team. Yesterday the NAIA’s LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS didn’t just upset D2’s KENTUCKY WESLEYAN COLLEGE PANTHERS, they folded, spindled and mutilated them! Lindsey Wilson College won the game by a score of SIXTY-TWO to TEN, thoroughly pleasing their home crowd!

St Xavier UniversitySXU RULES THE WORLD – Another NAIA team – the SAINT XAVIER UNIVERSITY COUGARS – hosted NCAA Division Two’s 15th ranked UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS. The Cougars were happy to demonstrate what kind of football they play in the NAIA and led the Greyhounds 12-7 at Halftime. SXU was led by 2 rushing Touchdowns by Khary Ferguson as they pulled off the upset. The Cougars held on late to win this game for the ages by a final score of 19-15.

NC Wesleyan Battlin' BishopsTHE BATTLING BISHOPS ALSO RULE THE WORLD – NCAA Division Three’s NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY BATTLING BISHOPS were on the road against Division Two’s LINCOLN (PA) LIONS. QB Dustin Midgett led his team to a 13-0 Halftime advantage, with the Battling Bishop defense turning in a repeat performance in the 2nd Half for NC Wesleyan’s first shutout since 2011. Meanwhile RB Jacques Alston ran for 3 Touchdowns on the day for a Battling Bishop win by a score of 27-0.   Continue reading →

COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM SEPTEMBER 6th

college of idaho coyotesCOLLEGE OF IDAHO MARKS THE RETURN OF FOOTBALL WITH A WIN – Yesterday the NAIA’s COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES played their first game of intercollegiate football since 1977! The Yotes did it in style, too, not only notching a win ON THE ROAD but carrying on the NAIA tradition of defeating their rivals in NCAA Division 3 football. C of I battled the D3 PACIFIC UNIVERSITY BOXERS and led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but were tied with the Boxers 14-14 at Halftime. Things stood at 28-28 going into the 4th Quarter but in the end the Coyotes blocked a Field Goal attempt and won the game 35-34! Welcome back to the gridiron, College of Idaho!

Menlo Oaks helmetTHE OAKS RULE THE WORLD – Each week of every college football season at least one NAIA football team upsets a team in NCAA Division Two, similar to when a 1AA team upsets a 1A team. Yesterday the MENLO COLLEGE OAKS took it on the road to Canada to battle D2’s SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY CLAN (as in Scottish clan). The Oaks won this instant classic by a final score of 31-24. (SFU is one of the Canadian teams that do play in America’s lower divisions of college sports)

Langston LionsLANGSTON RULES THE WORLD, TOO – The 2014 Missouri Classic at Arrowhead Stadium pitted the NAIA’s LANGSTON UNIVERSITY LIONS against NCAA Division Two’s LINCOLN (MO) UNIVERSITY BLUE TIGERS. Both offenses were clicking early as a 7-0 Blue Tiger lead became 7-7 after the Lions answered, then became a 14-7 Lincoln University lead and so on. By Halftime the Blue Tigers had seized a 42-28 advantage but Langston’s QB Mark Wright, Jr came out of the break ready to lead his team to a comeback win. The Lions scored 21 unanswered points while shutting out the Blue Tigers all 2nd Half until very late in the 4th Quarter. Langston’s Tra Keyes blocked the PAT, preserving the 49-48 upset win for the Lions!

Belhaven Blazers helmet NEWEVERYBODY, INCLUDING BELHAVEN, WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD – The NAIA’s BELHAVEN UNIVERSITY BLAZERS hosted the crosstown D2 team, the MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE CHOCTAWS yesterday. QB Conner Preston and RB Aaron Spikes were on fire, passing and running for 294 and 114 yards respectively. The Blazers led 7-0 after the 1st Quarter and 20-14 at the Half. COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF RESULTS FROM DECEMBER 14th

* FRIDAY NIGHT DEC 13th *

Harding Bisons helmetTEXARKANA BOWL – This Bowl game in NCAA Division 2 was postponed from last Saturday due to inclement weather. The game was far from worth the wait from a competitive angle as the HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON had their way with the TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE LIONS. The Bison, who hail from the Great American Conference crushed and mangled the Lions, who play in the Lone Star Conference. The final score in this thoroughly one-sided affair was Harding 44  TAMC 3.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL PLAYOFF AND BOWL RESULTS FROM DECEMBER 7th AND 8th

* NAIA SEMIFINALS *

Cumberlands_KYEVERYBODY MUST GET STONEHOUSE – The top-seeded UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS proved exceptionally skilled at getting to Dakota Stonehouse, the Quarterback for the visiting CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS. These two teams kept each other scoreless in the 1st Quarter but the Patriots were leading 13-3 as Halftime approached when the Fighting Saints made it 13-10 instead. CC – winners of 6 of the last 11 National Championships –  racked up a 24-20 lead as the 3rd Quarter ended. A Touchdown by UC followed by a Field Goal by CC left the score knotted at 27-27. A crucial sack of Stonehouse when the Fighting Saints were moving into Field Goal range sent the game into Overtime. After the Patriots managed 7 points in the extra session it was Carroll College’s turn. Soon ANOTHER sack of Stonehouse ended CC’s hopes on 4th and goal! UC wins 34-27 and moves on to the title game on December 21st!

HELMETGrand_View_IAIN A BLOWOUT NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU YAWN – The GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS played host to the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS in this much-anticipated game that turned into a laugher by Halftime. The Vikings led last year’s runners-up in NAIA football 7-0 after one Quarter of play but had parlayed that into a 28-0 lead by the break. The Mustangs never even sniffed the scoreboard throughout the 2nd Half but Grand View mustered another Touchdown to win a trip to Rome, GA for the Championship Game. The final score was 35-0, setting up a battle of unbeatens between the Patriots and the Vikings.

Lenoir Rhyne BearsLIONS AND CLOSE GAMES AND BEARS – OH MY! – The LENOIR-RHYNE UNIVERSITY BEARS welcomed the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH ALABAMA LIONS for what turned out to be D2’s closest game of the day. The Lions carried with them decades of postseason tradition as well as 2013’s last hope for the Gulf South Conference to retain the Championship. The Bears were unintimidated, however and went blow for blow with the team from Florence, emerging with a Continue reading →
