KNOCKING OFF NUMBER SEVEN – Yesterday the unranked MICHIGAN TECH HUSKIES welcomed the number 7 team in the nation – the ASHLAND UNIVERSITY EAGLES. The Huskies defied all the prognosticators and made believers out of everyone by toppling the stunned Eagles in a 27-24 game for the ages!
HANGING NINETY – The 6th ranked GRAND VIEW UNIVERSITY VIKINGS traveled to face the CULVER-STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS. The Vikings – apparently sharing Balladeer’s Blog’s weariness with teams called Wildcats, Eagles, Tigers and Bulldogs – proceeded to fold, spindle and mutilate their opponents. In the end Grand View University emerged with a NINETY to NOTHING win.
A DOUBLE-SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – In the battle between the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY PHOENIX and their hosts the BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS 4 Quarters of play just wasn’t enough. One Overtime period just wasn’t enough either. No, it took Double Overtime to decide the victor. The Phoenix went back home with a 62-55 triumph.
NCCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – In the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) the MARANATHA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SABERCATS took the field against the visiting TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE LIONS. The Sabercats grabbed a 7-0 lead in the 1st Quarter and never looked back from there. A 28-0 Halftime advantage ultimately became a 34-18 victory.
USCAA GAME OF THE WEEK – The USCAA (United States Collegiate Athletic Association) Game of the Week pitted the IOWA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS against their guests the MARTIN LUTHER COLLEGE KNIGHTS. The Tigers controlled both sides of the ball for the entire game, leading 19-0 at the break and winning it 38-0.

ROAD WARRIORS – The HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS are famed far and wide as the alma mater of THE Tom Osborne. Those Broncos took it on the road against their Great Plains Athletic Conference rivals the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS. Hastings College manhandled the Chargers to the tune of 35-6.
PINK GAME – Yesterday’s Pink Game was a Frontier Conference clash between the UNIVERSITY OF MONTANA-WESTERN BULLDOGS and the SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS. The Dawgs showed the proper way to beat Breast Cancer by clobbering the visiting Raiders 43-24.

OTHER UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – In addition to Michigan Tech over Ashland U there was only one other upset in the D2 rankings on Saturday. The FLORIDA TECH PANTHERS played host to the number 15 VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS. The Panthers defeated their Gulf South Conference rivals rather handily by a count of 38-20.

UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE – Believe it or not there was only one upset in the D3 Top Twenty-Five yesterday. The unranked DEPAUW UNIVERSITY TIGERS squared off against the number 22 DENISON UNIVERSITY BIG RED. A tight 1st Quarter ended with the Tigers on top of the Big Red 3-0 but by Halftime that swelled to a 24-7 lead. From there Depauw University coasted to a 30-16 win.
