COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM OCTOBER 24th

* HEADLINES *

GEORGETOWN COLLEGE RULES THE WORLD – Once again an NAIA team has toppled a team from NCAA Division TWO. For newbies that’s like a 1AA team upsetting a 1A team. The GEORGETOWN (KY) COLLEGE TIGERS were on the road against NCAA D2’s ALDERSON- BROADDUS UNIVERSITY BATTLERS and clobbered them 28-15.

NUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – In NCAA Division Two the WINONA STATE WARRIORS traveled to face the number 1 team in the nation – the MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS. The Warriors brought down Number One in their own house in a 31-27 game for the ages.

ANOTHER NUMBER ONE GOES DOWN – Meanwhile in the NAIA the 8th ranked REINHARDT UNIVERSITY EAGLES welcomed the nation’s top ranked team – the LINDSEY WILSON COLLEGE BLUE RAIDERS. The Blue Raiders survived a close call last Saturday but not this time. The Eagles authoritatively defeated Lindsey Wilson College 42-24.  

NUMBER FOUR COMES TUMBLING AFTER – Back in NCAA Division Two the AUGUSTANA (SD) VIKINGS went across town to square off against the 4th ranked UNIVERSITY OF SIOUX FALLS COUGARS. The Vikings won this edition of the Battle of Sioux Falls by a score of 35-28.

AND ANOTHER NUMBER FOUR FALLS – In the CCCAA the (16) MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES – the Defending Champions – trailed the (4) RIVERSIDE COLLEGE TIGERS 14-13 going into the 4th Quarter. The Mounties came back to win the game 20-17 in an undeniable Instant Classic. 

* UPSETS IN THE TOP TWENTY-FIVE *

NAIA – The (21) DAKOTA WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS took it on the road and defeated the (15) NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS by a final score of 27-17     ###      And the POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS celebrated Homecoming by knocking off the (25) SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE in a dominant 66-34 performance.

NCAA DIVISION TWO – The UNIVERSITY OF WEST ALABAMA TIGERS notched a tight 41-38 road upset of the (17) DELTA STATE STATESMEN     ###      Meanwhile the EASTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY GREYHOUNDS toppled the visiting (19) ANGELO STATE RAMS by a score of 46-28     ###      And the CALIFORNIA (PA) VULCANS brought down the visiting (22) CLARION UNIVERSITY GOLDEN EAGLES 42-28.

NCAA DIVISION THREE – The CASE WESTERN RESERVE UNIVERSITY SPARTANS played host to the (15) WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS and upset them by a score of 35-28     ###      And the DELAWARE VALLEY COLLEGE AGGIES won a 28-23 road game against the (20) ALBRIGHT COLLEGE LIONS.  

CCCAA – The SAN JOAQUIN DELTA COLLEGE MUSTANGS were on the road against the (20) COLLEGE OF THE SEQUOIAS GIANTS and handed them a 42-38 defeat     ###      And the SACRAMENTO CITY COLLEGE PANTHERS likewise upset a ranked team on the road – in their case a 35-31 victory over the (24) COLLEGE OF THE SISKIYOUS EAGLES.

WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (6) DOANE COLLEGE TIGERS won a 23-20 Overtime clash at the (23) CONCORDIA (NE) BULLDOGS     ###      The (12) MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS crushed the (18) CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS 42-7 in their own house     ###      And the traveling (7) ST FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS defeated the (9) ROBERT MORRIS (IL) EAGLES 38-29.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS logged a 21-17 road win over the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS     ###      And the EDWARD WATERS COLLEGE TIGERS welcomed the CONCORDIA (AL) HORNETS from the USCAA and managed a 26-24 triumph over them.  

ROAD WARRIORS – The ARIZONA CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY FIRESTORM visited the TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS and shut them out 26-0     ###      Meanwhile the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS won a 28-21 thriller at the MAYVILLE STATE COMETS     ###      And the (19) KANSAS WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY COYOTES crushed the homestanding BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES 52-14.

SPOILED HOMECOMINGS – The KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS rained on the UNION (KY) BULLDOGS’ Homecoming festivities with a 45-38 win     ###      The SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS notched a 45-35 victory over the OLIVET NAZARENE UNIVERSITY TIGERS     ###      And the (14) WILLIAM PENN UNIVERSITY STATESMEN annihilated the CULVER- STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS 73-20.  

THE COOLER NAMED TEAM WINS – That’s NOT a betting strategy. The DORDT COLLEGE DEFENDERS welcomed the MIDLAND UNIVERSITY WARRIORS and defeated them 24-17     ###      And the (11) TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS handed a 34-7 loss to the homestanding FRIENDS UNIVERSITY FALCONS. 

HAPPY HOMECOMINGS – The BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS hosted the USCAA’s NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS and defeated them 17-6     ###      The (16) BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS won 24-16 over the visiting GRACELAND UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS     ###      And the TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS handed the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS a 35-24 loss.

ONE POINT WONDERS – The MONTANA WESTERN BULLDOGS took the field against the visiting ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS and squeezed out a 27-26 victory     ###      And the (20) ST FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS won a 35-34 game for the ages against their guests the UL-BELLEVILLE LYNX. 

HEROIC HOMESTANDS – The UNIVERSITY OF ST MARY SPIRES hammered the visiting MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS (should be the Mastiffs) 41-3     ###      The ST AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES clobbered the MISSOURI BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SPARTANS 30-6     ###      And the (2) SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY (Defending Champs) obliterated the COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES 63-21.

SPECIAL DAYS – On Superhero Day the WALDORF COLLEGE WARRIORS doubled up on the visiting PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS 28-14     ###      Meanwhile the (24) UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS marked First Priorities Day by beating the UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE BEARS 48-29     ###      And on Scholar’s Day the FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES won a 48-44 nailbiter over the BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS. 

* NCAA DIVISION TWO *

WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (6) COLORADO STATE AT PUEBLO THUNDER WOLVES (Defending Champions) mangled the visiting (7) COLORADO MINES OREDIGGERS 49-21     ###      And the (8) TEXAS A&M AT COMMERCE LIONS won a 27-14 win over their guests the (9) MIDWESTERN STATE MUSTANGS.  

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The WINSTON-SALEM STATE RAMS traveled to face the LIVINGSTONE COLLEGE BLUE BEARS and won a 23-21 nailbiter     ###      Meanwhile the MARS HILL UNIVERSITY LIONS survived a 41-37 visit from the LENOIR- RHYNE UNIVERSITY BEARS     ###      And the LOCK HAVEN UNIVERSITY BALD EAGLES won 36-28 at the MILLERSVILLE UNIVERSITY MARAUDERS. 

WORKING OVERTIME – The LAKE ERIE COLLEGE STORM hosted the MALONE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS for 4 Quarters before handing them a 27-24 defeat in Overtime     ###      And the CARSON- NEWMAN UNIVERSITY EAGLES won a 41-38 Overtime affair at the WINGATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS. 

PURE GOLD – The JOHNSON C SMITH UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BULLS won a 17-10 Instant Classic against their guests – the SHAW UNIVERSITY BEARS     ###      Meanwhile the CHARLESTON UNIVERSITY GOLDEN EAGLES smacked down the URBANA UNIVERSITY BLUE KNIGHTS 37-12 in their own house     ###      And the (18) TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY GOLDEN TIGERS triumphed over their hosts the KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS by a score of 38-28.

ONE POINT WONDERS – The BEMIDJI STATE BEAVERS eked out a 28-27 victory over the visiting ST CLOUD STATE HUSKIES     ###      The CHADRON STATE EAGLES logged a 39-38 road win over the BLACK HILLS STATE YELLOW JACKETS     ###      And the ST JOSEPH’S COLLEGE PUMAS snuck past their hosts the SOUTHWEST BAPTIST BEARCATS 24-23.

ALL-NAME GAMES – The PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS found themselves on the road against the UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA AT KEARNEY LOPERS and beat them 24-19     ###      And the ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS won a 57-37 battle against their guests the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA STATE SAVAGE STORM.

ONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – The TARLETON STATE TEXANS eviscerated the visiting OKLAHOMA PANHANDLE STATE AGGIES to the tune of EIGHTY-FOUR to FORTY-SEVEN     ###      And the OHIO DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY PANTHERS chewed up and spit out their hosts the QUINCY UNIVERSITY HAWKS in a SEVENTY-THREE to TWENTY-EIGHT laugher.

SHUTOUTS – The VIRGINIA STATE TROJANS were on the road against the LINCOLN (PA) LIONS and achieved defensive perfection with a 35-0 rout     ###      And the NORTHERN STATE WOLVES blanked the visiting UNIVERSITY OF MARY MARAUDERS by a final score of 37-zip.

THE LION’S DEN – The SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS welcomed the WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY PIONEERS (should be the Flying W’s) into their den on Saturday. The Lions pretty much had their way with the Pioneers and won the game by a final tally of 40-14.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The CHOWAN UNIVERSITY HAWKS won a 24-20 gridiron epic against the visiting ELIZABETH CITY STATE VIKINGS     ###      And the NCCAA’s TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE LIONS fell in a tight 21-14 Lion on Lion road clash with the FINLANDIA UNIVERSITY LIONS.

THIS GAME WAS FOR THE BIRDS – The NCCAA’s UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN (MN) EAGLES tangled with their fellow bird-named team the WESTMINSTER COLLEGE BLUE JAYS. The Eagles led the visiting Blue Jays 13-7 at Halftime and converted that into a 27-10 triumph when all was said and done. 

BUTTKICKINGS – The KENTUCKY WESLEYAN COLLEGE PANTHERS hosted the LOUISIANA COLLEGE WILDCATS and handed them a 49-22 drubbing     ###      And the CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY TIGERS authoritatively defeated their guests the CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS by a score of 41-21.  

UTTER ANNIHILATION – The NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS played host to the UNIVERSITY OF GOD’S CHOSEN DISCIPLES and proceeded to fold, spindle and mutilate the visiting team. The Crusaders dominated on both sides of the ball and sent the Disciples back home reeling from a SIXTY-NINE to NOTHING beatdown.

WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (2) LINFIELD COLLEGE WILDCATS tore apart the visiting (25) WHITWORTH UNIVERSITY PIRATES by a score of 52-10     ###      The (3) UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN- BAYLOR CRUSADERS crushed their guests the (24) TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS 48-20     ###      Meanwhile the (4) WESLEY COLLEGE WOLVERINES defeated the (21) ROWAN UNIVERSITY PROFS 38-25     ###      And the (5) UW-OSHKOSH TITANS devastated their hosts the UW-PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS 63-27.

ALL-NAME GAMES – The POMONA- PITZER COLLEGE SAGEHENS visited the WHITTIER COLLEGE POETS and handed them a 25-13 loss     ###      And the ILLINOIS COLLEGE BLUE BOYS took it on the road against the LAKE FOREST COLLEGE FORESTERS and absolutely hammered them to the tune of 52-28.

ONE POINT WONDERS – The PACIFIC LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY LUTES trailed the visiting GEORGE FOX UNIVERSITY BRUINS 24-14 at Halftime but dominated the 2nd Half for a 28-27 comeback win     ###      And the homestanding MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME BUCCANEERS eked out a 35-34 victory over the UMASS-DARTMOUTH CORSAIRS.  

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The homestanding PACIFIC UNIVERSITY BOXERS had to hold on for dear life for a 29-24 win over the WILLAMETTE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS     ###      And the UNIVERSITY OF LA VERNE LEOPARDS needed a furious 4th Quarter road comeback to beat the UNIVERSITY OF REDLANDS BULLDOGS 49-42.  

WORKING OVERTIME – The MUHLENBERG COLLEGE MULES battled their hosts the JUNIATA COLLEGE EAGLES through Regulation and TWO Overtimes before emerging with a 41-35 triumph     ###      And the LAKELAND COLLEGE MUSKIES likewise notched a road win – in their case by a score of 47-40 in single Overtime over the AURORA UNIVERSITY SPARTANS.

NCAA DIVISION THREE OVER USCAA – The MACMURRAY COLLEGE HIGHLANDERS led their guests from the USCAA – the IOWA WESLEYAN COLLEGE TIGERS – by a score of 19-13 to end the 3rd Quarter. In the 4th the Highlanders won it 26-13.     ###      And the ST JOHN FISHER CARDINALS obliterated the USCAA’s visiting ALFRED STATE PIONEERS in a 56-0 shutout.

ULTIMATE AMHERST FOOTBALL DAY – Yesterday was the ultimate in gridiron nirvana for fans of the AMHERST COLLEGE LORD JEFFS. The Lord Jeffs defeated the visiting WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY CARDINALS 27-18     ###      And the arch-rivals of Amherst College – the WILLIAMS COLLEGE EPHS (“Eephs”) – lost to their guests the TUFTS UNIVERSITY JUMBOS by a score of 30-15.

ONE HUNDRED YAWNS IN A ROW – The (1) UNIVERSITY OF MOUNT UNION PURPLE RAIDERS have been overshadowed in recent years by UW-Whitewater, who tend to beat them in the National Championship game. The Purple Raiders notched their hundredth REGULAR SEASON win in a row yesterday against the WILMINGTON (OH) QUAKERS 69-0. Mt Union wins most regular season games by that kind of a score which says more about the weakness of the Ohio Athletic Conference than it does about the Purple Raiders. Teams like Wesley and UW-Whitewater test themselves against D2 or even D1 teams. Mt Union seems obsessed instead with perfect regular seasons.
