NUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – The NAIA’s DOANE COLLEGE TIGERS welcomed the number one team in the nation – the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS – to Crete, NE on a cold and snowy Saturday. The Tigers trailed the storied Mustangs 27-7 after 1 Quarter of play but Coach Matt Franzen kept his team calm and focused, guiding them to a 27-27 tie at Halftime. In the 3rd Quarter Doane took a 41-27 lead that had the Morningside faithful chewing their nails but the Mustangs fought back to retake the lead 48-41 with just 2:07 left to play in the 4th.
Soon, on 4th and 4 from the Morningside 13 with 21 seconds on the clock QB Brandon Stuart connected with Nick Reed for a TD to pull within 48-47. From there Doane went for the win on a 2 point Conversion which saw Stuart throw to Holden Wetzler in the End Zone for a 49-48 upset that shocked the nation!
WESLEY FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT – The NCAA Division Three’s 4th ranked WESLEY COLLEGE WOLVERINES showed the kind of courage Mt Union NEVER shows, taking it on the road against Division ONE’s Charlotte Forty-Niners. The Wolverines nearly pulled off the upset as it turned out. A 14-14 1st Quarter tie became a 28-24 lead for Charlotte by the Half. Both teams exchanged blows nearly evenly in the 2nd Half with Wesley losing by just 38-33.
THE VICTORY BELL CLASSIC – The FRANKLIN COLLEGE GRIZZLIES won their 10th Victory Bell Classic in a row yesterday against the HANOVER COLLEGE PANTHERS. Head Coach Mike Leonard (a Hanover grad, ironically enough) had his team composed despite falling behind 24-21 by Halftime. After the break the Grizzlies limited the Panthers to just 9 points while wracking up 28 points themselves for a 49-33 triumph. Franklin improved to 8-2 for 2014 with this win.

TOP TWENTY-FIVE UPSETS – In addition to Doane over Morningside the 16th ranked EASTERN OREGON UNIVERSITY MOUNTAINEERS came from behind for a 31-27 upset win over the number 4 SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS. The Mountaineers trailed 13-0 in the 1st Quarter but led 21-20 by the break on their way to that earth-shaking upset which may boost EOU into their FIRST EVER berth in the NAIA playoffs. The playoff field of 16 teams will be announced at 6pm ET today.
NUMBER TWO TRIES HARDER – The 2nd ranked CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS – the presumptive new number 1 team in the NAIA after Morningside fell – did battle with the visiting COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES yesterday. The Coyotes are in their first year of intercollegiate football since 1977 and were no match for the CC juggernaut. The Fighting Saints clinched the Frontier Conference title with ease, obliterating the Coyotes 69-12.
WHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (7) MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS ruined Senior Day for the (12) BAKER UNIVERSITY WILDCATS in a 27-24 Instant Classic ### Meanwhile the (14) OTTAWA UNIVERSITY BRAVES followed suit, raining on the Senior Day fesitivities of the (18) TABOR COLLEGE BLUE JAYS 17-15 in a game for the ages ### And in the Mid-South Conference the (19) CAMPBELLSVILLE TIGERS downed the homestanding (22) REINHARDT EAGLES to the tune of 31-14.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The MONTANA STATE- NORTHERN LIGHTS were on the road against the ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS and eked out a thrilling 44-41 victory ### The TAYLOR UNIVERSITY TROJANS won a 20-14 home stand against the SAINT FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS ### And the BETHEL (TN) WILDCATS won at the BELHAVEN UNIVERSITY BLAZERS 39-35.
HAPPY SENIOR DAYS – The BETHANY COLLEGE SWEDES sent their Seniors out on a positive note, clobbering the BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS 35-7 ### And the BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS did the same, defeating the CULVER- STOCKTON COLLEGE WILDCATS in a 29-19 affair.
UNHAPPY SENIOR DAYS – The UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE BEARS spoiled Senior Day for the UNION (KY) BULLDOGS, beating them 39-20 ### And the (23) ROBERT MORRIS (IL) EAGLES did the same for the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS, downing them by a score of 17-6.
A THRILLER AND A BLOWOUT – The MCPHERSON COLLEGE BULLDOGS barely snuck past the visiting SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS, defeating them 10-7 ### And at the other extreme the (9) MARIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS totalled the visiting SAINT FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS to the tune of 51-18.
REACHING FIVE HUNDRED – The SAINT AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES traveled to do battle with the LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY AT BELLEVILLE LYNX yesterday. The Fighting Bees evened their 2014 record at 5-5 in a game which saw them take down the hard-fighting Lynx by a final score of 48-30.

TOP TEN UPSETS – The unranked SLIPPERY ROCK UNIVERSITY ROCKETS welcomed the 6th ranked BLOOMSBURG UNIVERSITY HUSKIES yesterday and toppled them in a 28-26 nailbiter ### The VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY TROJANS took it on the road against the number 9 WINSTON- SALEM STATE RAMS and wound up shocking them 21-17 ### And the 21st ranked OUACHITA BAPTIST TIGERS stunned the number 10 HENDERSON STATE REDDIES 41-20 in their own house.
NOT SO SWEET SIXTEEN – The unranked WILLIAM JEWELL COLLEGE CARDINALS traveled to face the number 16 team in the nation – the UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS GREYHOUNDS. The Cardinals ended their regular season on a positive note, pulling off the upset of the ranked team in a nerve-wracking 27-24 gridiron Armaggedon.
ELEVEN AND OH – The 15th ranked CONCORD UNIVERSITY MOUNTAIN LIONS put their undefeated season on the line at the number 17 SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY RAMS. A 7-7 1st Quarter tie was unchanged by Halftime. The Mountain Lions took a 20-13 lead into the 4th Quarter but the Rams knotted things up at 20-20 to end Regulation. In OT Concord put up a Field Goal and then ran Shepherd’s failed attempt to tie the game back for a Touchdown. The odd final score for an Overtime game was 29-20.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The STONEHILL COLLEGE SKYHAWKS visited the ST ANSELM COLLEGE HAWKS and went back home with a 19-11 victory ### Meanwhile the UVA-WISE HIGHLAND CAVALIERS survived a 24-21 invasion from the FAIRMONT STATE FALCONS ### And the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA SAVAGE STORM notched an 18-15 road win against the EAST CENTRAL TIGERS.
ORDER SIXTY-SIX – The BREVARD COLLEGE TORNADOES shut out the visiting COLLEGE OF FAITH MIGHTY BELIEVERS to the tune of 66-0 ### Meanwhile the SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS won a 66-42 road game against the UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS AT MONTICELLO BOLL WEEVILS ### And the GANNON UNIVERSITY GOLDEN KNIGHTS defeated the visiting EAST STROUDSBURG WARRIORS 66-41.
ON PACE FOR A VICTORY – The PACE UNIVERSITY SETTERS (as in Irish Setters but also a play on “Pace Setters”) played a defensive epic against the homestanding SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE OWLS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the score was tied 7-7 at Halftime. After the break both defenses were nearly perfect but the Setters emerged with a 10-7 victory, pleasing Coach Andrew Rondeau.
OVERTIME IS GOLDEN – The KUTZTOWN UNIVERSITY GOLDEN BEARS found themselves on the road against the CLARION UNIVERSITY GOLDEN EAGLES. The Golden Bears held a 21-14 advantage by the break but that became a 21-21 tie to end the 3rd Quarter and a 35-35 tie to end Regulation. In Overtime Kutztown shut out the Golden Eagles then scored a Touchdown for a 41-35 win.
A TALE OF TWO BEARCATS TEAMS – The SOUTHWEST BAPTIST UNIVERSITY BEARCATS won a 20-14 Instant Classic on the road against the SOUTHERN NAZARENE UNIVERSITY CRIMSON STORM ### And the MCKENDREE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS likewise won a tight one on the road, in their case a 28-21 win over the QUINCY HAWKS.
SHUTOUTS – The UNC- PEMBROKE BRAVES traveled to face the LIMESTONE COLLEGE SAINTS and blanked them 26-0 ### Meanwhile the (19) AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COUGARS dispatched the visiting MENLO COLLEGE OAKS in a 54-0 laugher ### And the (2) UMD BULLDOGS eviscerated the MINOT STATE BEAVERS 56-0 in their own house.
LIONS WIN, LIONS LOSE – The LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY LIONS more than doubled up on their hosts, the NORTHEASTERN STATE RIVERHAWKS, 35-16 ### And the MARS HILL UNIVERSITY LIONS on the other hand lost to the visiting TUSCULUM COLLEGE PIONEERS by a much closer score of 38-35.
HOME TEAMS DOMINATING – The HUMBOLDT STATE LUMBERJACKS welcomed their Great Northwest Athletic Conference rivals the DIXIE STATE RED STORM and absolutely hammered them 71-13 ### And the NORTHWOOD UNIVERSITY TIMBERWOLVES totaled their guests – the MALONE UNIVERSITY PIONEERS to the tune of 41-17.
ROAD CLASSICS – The UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA AT KEARNEY LOPERS were visiting the EMPORIA STATE HORNETS and emerged with a 42-40 win in a true nailbiter ### And the TARLETON STATE TEXANS went back home with a tight 44-41 victory over the MIDWESTERN STATE MUSTANGS.

LION HEARTED – The SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS were at home against the TEXAS COLLEGE STEERS yesterday to close out their regular season. It was all Lions all the time as SAGU proceeded to utterly annihilate the hapless Steers in a FORTY-EIGHT to NOTHING shutout.
CRUSADE AGAINST WOLVES – The NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS took the field against the visiting NEWBERRY COLLEGE WOLVES. The Crusaders had compiled a 27-0 lead by Halftime and kept the Wolves off the scoreboard until the 4th Quarter in a 34-14 smackdown to end the regular season with a 6-5 record.
NAIA OVER NCCAA – The NAIA’s UNIVERSITY OF THE CUMBERLANDS PATRIOTS were anything but hospitable to the NCCAA’s visiting BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS, crushing them 63-28 ### And another NAIA team – the (10) FAULKNER UNIVERSITY EAGLES – defeated their NCCAA guests the KENTUCKY CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS by a score of 31-14.
JOLLY JAVELINAS – The TEXAS A&M AT KINGSVILLE JAVELINAS pretty much had their way with their hosts the MCMURRY UNIVERSITY WAR HAWKS. After a 7-7 1st Quarter tie the Javelinas went on to lead the game 20-7 by Halftime and 27-7 after 3 Quarters of play. After an action- packed 4th Quarter TAM- Kingsville left with a masterful 41-16 blowout win.
* THE GAME BETWEEN THE MARANATHA BAPTIST SABRETOOTHS AND THE KENTUCKY WESLEYAN COLLEGE PANTHERS WAS CANCELED *

BLAZING A TRAIL TO A WIN – The WILLIAM PATERSON UNIVERSITY PIONEERS traveled to Buena Vista, VA to take on the USCAA’s SOUTHERN VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Pioneers grabbed a 10-2 lead by the break. In the 2nd Half the Knights shut out the Pioneers but could only muster 6 more points themselves. William Paterson won the game 10-8.
NAIA OVER USCAA – The NAIA’s AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES welcomed the NEWPORT NEWS APPRENTICE SCHOOL BUILDERS on Saturday. The Gyrenes proceeded to dismantle the Builders, leading the game 14-0 in the 1st Quarter and 20-6 at Halftme on their way to a 35-8 win. QB Clayton Uecker threw for 392 yards as Ave Maria ends the season with a 5-6 record.
* THE GAME BETWEEN THE ALFRED STATE PIONEERS AND THE OHIO MIDWESTERN RAMS WAS CANCELED *
* NCAA DIVISION THREE *
NUMBER FOURTEEEN FALLS IN OVERTIME – The WAYNESBURG UNIVERSITY YELLOW JACKETS welcomed the number 14 WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON COLLEGE PRESIDENTS. A 14-14 tie at Halftime became a 28-28 tie to end Regulation. In the Overtime period the Yellow Jackets shut out the Presidents, winning the game 31-28. QB Carter Hill threw for 366 yards and FOUR Touchdowns in the win.
AND NUMBER FIFTEEN FALLS IN TRIPLE-OVERTIME – The UW- OSHKOSH TITANS took it on the road against the 15th ranked UW-PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS yesterday. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Titans trailed 7-3 at the break. Regulation ended in a 10-10 tie. It wasn’t until the THIRD OVERTIME period that Oshkosh at last emerged with a 30-27 upset triumph.
OTHER TOP TWENTY-FIVE UPSETS – In yet ANOTHER Overtime affair the AUGSBURG COLLEGE AUGGIES won a 62-61 road shootout with the number 18 BETHEL (MN) ROYALS. A missed PAT was the difference in the extra session. ### And the CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS toppled the 23rd ranked ITHACA COLLEGE BOMBERS in a 23-20 home stand.
FORTY-THREE TO TWENTY-EIGHT – Two of Friday night’s games ended with this exact same score. First the LYCOMING COLLEGE WARRIORS were on the road against the FDU-FLORHAM DEVILS and went back home with a 43-28 victory. ### And the WESTERN CONNECTICUT COLONIALS came back from a 14-7 deficit to beat their hosts the WESTFIELD STATE OWLS by that same score.
CRANBERRY BOWL – The 36th installment of this clash between the MASSACHUSETTS MARITIME BUCCANEERS and the BRIDGEWATER STATE BEARS was played yesterday. A 24-7 Halftime lead for the Buccaneers became just 24-14 after 3 Quarters before the game ended in a 31-21 win for Mass Maritime. QB John Trudell passed for 315 yds and 3 TD’s in the win.
HAWKS FLY HIGH – The HUNTINGDON COLLEGE HAWKS were on the road against the NORTH CAROLINA WESLEYAN BATTLING BISHOPS. By the end of the 1st Quarter the Hawks had compiled a 14-0 lead but the Battling Bishops had trimmed that to a 20-14 edge by the break. In the 2nd Half Huntingdon outscored NC Wesleyan 17-6 for a 37-20 victory. RB Jay Ware notched 117 rushing yards and 2 Touchdowns.
DOUBLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – The WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS hosted the SPRINGFIELD COLLEGE PRIDE. Neither team scored in the 1st Quarter but by the Half the Engineers led 21-7 on their way to a 28-14 triumph. QB Dan Eckler notched 218 yards and 2 Touchdowns for the Engineers.
BECKER ON TOP – The BECKER COLLEGE HAWKS welcomed the ANNA MARIA COLLEGE AMCATS to Alumni Field yesterday. The Hawks led 7-0 in the 1st but the Amcats had pulled to within 7-6 by Halftime. The 3rd Quarter and then Regulation ended in a 14-14 tie to force Overtime. In OT the Hawks shutout Anna Maria College but put up a Field Goal of their own for a 17-14 victory to close their season.
CRUSADE IN OHIO – The CAPITAL UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS were battling the homestanding MARIETTA COLLEGE PIONEERS on Saturday. The Pioneers started out defending Don Drumm Stadium well and led the Crusaders 8-7 in the 1st Quarter and 28-21 at the Half. Capital University owned the 2nd Half, however, and rolled to a 56-42 win. RB Nick Waters rushed for 123 yards and 3 Touchdowns for the Crusaders.
ONE POINT WONDERS – The KALAMAZOO COLLEGE HORNETS managed a road win against the HOPE COLLEGE FLYING DUTCHMEN, edging them by a final score of 30-29 ### Meanwhile the CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY TARTANS came from behind to defeat the visiting WASHINGTON (MO) UNIVERSITY BEARS in a 17-16 game for the ages!
A NEW TYPE OF SHENANDOAH CAMPAIGN – The WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY GENERALS handed a beatdown to the visiting SHENANDOAH UNIVERSITY HORNETS yesterday. The Generals’ 14-10 Halftime lead turned into a 23-14 Hornets advantage in the 3rd Quarter. Washington & Lee came back in the 4th for a 40-23 victory! RB Jimmy Dugan rushed for 143 yards and 1 Touchdown for the Generals.
THE ROCKFORD FILES – The ROCKFORD UNIVERSITY REGENTS found themselves in Concordia Stadium to play the CONCORDIA- CHICAGO COUGARS. The Regents gave up 2 Safeties in this odd game but otherwise were in control, leading 6-2 in the 1st and 12-9 at the midpoint. In the 2nd Half Rockford University took over, resulting in a 25-11 win. RB Pete Berry compiled 105 rushing yards and 3 Touchdowns for the Regents.
WHO SAYS THIRTEEN IS UNLUCKY? – The CARLETON COLLEGE KNIGHTS took it on the road to battle the HAMLINE UNIVERSITY PIPERS (as in Pied Pipers). The Knights managed a 13-0 lead in the 1st Quarter, followed by the Pipers making it a 13-6 game in the 2nd. The defenses took over from there and the game ended in a 13-6 Carleton College victory. QB Zach Creighton had one Touchdown through the air and another by ground.

The regular season in the NJCAA ended last week and their Bowl games begin December 6th.

NUMBER TWO FALLS TO NUMBER THREE – The 3rd ranked CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO RAMS welcomed the number 2 COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS to Rams stadium. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the Rams led 3-0 at Halftime. That became a 9-0 lead after 3 Quarters of play and finally a 23-7 victory for CCSF. RB Elijah Dale rushed for 153 yards and a Touchdown in the win.
OTHER TOP TEN UPSETS – The unranked COLLEGE OF THE SISKIYOUS EAGLES logged a road upset over the 7th ranked BUTTE COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS in a 21-20 Instant Classic ### Meanwhile the SADDLEBACK COLLEGE GAUCHOS laid low the homestanding number 9 GOLDEN WEST COLLEGE RUSTLERS 37-22 ### And the DIABLO VALLEY VIKINGS toppled the visiting 10th ranked SANTA ROSA BEAR CUBS 44-41.
RANKED TEAMS ROLLING – The (5) AMERICAN RIVER COLLEGE BEAVERS nearly doubled-up on their opponents, defeating the SACRAMENTO COLLEGE PANTHERS 44-23 in their own house ### And the (6) LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE VIKINGS manhandled the visiting EL CAMINO COLLEGE WARRIORS to the tune of 53-31.
LOBOS ON TOP – The MONTEREY PENINSULA COLLEGE LOBOS squared off against the visiting REEDLEY COLLEGE MIGHTY PANTHERS. The Lobos led 10-7 in the 1st Quarter, 17-14 at Halftime and 31-21 after 3 Quarters of play, but in the 4th MPC had to withstand a furious Reedley rally. In the end the Lobos won 43-38. QB Keon Marsh threw for 2 Touchdowns and rushed for 3 more on 453 all-purpose yards.
