NUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – The 15th ranked PITTSBURG (KS) STATE GORILLAS traveled to face the top ranked Defending Champions of NCAA Division Two football – the NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS. The Gorillas combined heavy-hitting with unexpected trickery (including recovering two on-side kicks at the least expected moments) to compile a 28-10 lead by Haltime. That became 35-10 in the 3rd Quarter before the Bearcats added a garbage time TD in the 4th. Pitt State won 35-17 as QB Anthony Abenoja passed for 318 yds and 3 TD’s.
INFLICTING SOME PAIN(E) – The PAINE COLLEGE LIONS are playing their first season of intercollegiate football in about half a century this year. Yesterday for Homecoming this 2nd Edition of the Lions notched their very first win by defeating the EDWARD WATERS COLLEGE TIGERS. After a scoreless 1st Quarter the visiting Tigers took a 14-0 lead in the 2nd before Paine tied up the game at 14-14 by the Half. That became a 21-14 Lion advantage in the 3rd and ultimately a 38-14 blowout win for Head Coach Greg Ruffin.
HANGING EIGHTY – NCAA Division Three’s (7) JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY BLUE STREAKS welcomed the MARIETTA PIONEERS yesterday and acted like neither the Marietta offense OR defense had shown up at all. The Blue Streaks led 21-0 in the 1st Quarter and 50-0 at the break on their way to an unbelievable EIGHTY to NOTHING victory. QB Mark Myers threw for 185 yards and 3 Touchdowns in the win.
NUMBER THREE GOES DOWN – Meanwhile at the two-year college level the NJCAA’s COPIAH- LINCOLN COLLEGE WOLFPACK got some sweet revenge for their season gone awry. They spoiled Homecoming AND possibly the 2014 season for their conference rivals the 3rd ranked MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST BULLDOGS. The Wolfpack defeated the Bulldogs in a 29-26 Instant Classic yesterday.

Coach Jake Eldridge kept the Lights focused and guided them to a tight 37-34 victory. QB Travis Dean passed for 186 yards and 2 Touchdowns in the win.
SAINTS VICTORIOUS – The SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS handily dispatched their guests the CONCORDIA (MI) CARDINALS in a 33-3 affair ### And the PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS marked Halo Days and Homecoming with a game against the WALDORF WARRIORS. The Saints won FORTY-ONE to TEN!
FALL FESTIVAL – The BETHEL (KS) THRESHERS played host to the SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE MOUNDBUILDERS to celebrate Fall Festival. The Threshers then proceeded to mop the gridiron with their KCAC opponents, dominating the Moundbuilders and winning the game in the end by an authoritative score of 29-7.
HAPPY AND UNHAPPY HOMECOMINGS – The (25) BENEDICTINE COLLEGE RAVENS had a happy Homecoming celebation topped off with their FORTY-NINE to SIX whupping of the PERU STATE BOBCATS ### While the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS, alma mater of THE Tom Osborne, ruined Homecoming for the MIDLAND WARRIORS by defeating them 48-28.
MAD MAX BEYOND DAKOTADOME – On Thursday night the DAKOTA STATE TROJANS did battle with the BRIAR CLIFF UNIVERSITY CHARGERS in the iconic DakotaDome. The spectators got treated to a game for the ages with the Trojans at last emerging with a 22-17 victory.

EAGLES FLYING HIGH – The UNIVERSITY OF NORTHWESTERN EAGLES welcomed the GREENVILLE COLLEGE PANTHERS to Reynolds Field. The Panthers had their way at first, leading 14-7 in the 1st Quarter and 28-14 by Halftime. The Eagles shut them out in the 2nd Half and put up 21 more points for a 35-28 victory. QB Jacob Fletcher passed for 194 yards and 4 TD’s as the Eagles improved to 6-1.
SHOOTOUT – The BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLING RAMS took it on the road to face the UNION (KY) BULLDOGS and spoiled their Homecoming celebrations. The Rambling Rams and the Bulldogs indulged in an offensive clinic, going back and forth until Bluefield at last emerged with a 68-56 win.
PANTHERS ON THE ROAD – The VIRGINIA UNION UNIVERSITY PANTHERS traveled this weekend to do battle with the CHOWAN UNIVERSITY HAWKS. The Panthers improved to 6-1 for the first time since 2007 as it turned out. The final score was VUU 40 Chowan 29. Head Coach Mark James needs just one more win the rest of the way to set a record for victories at Virginia Union for a first year coach.
SURVIVING THE FIRE – The AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES welcomed the SOUTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY FIRE yesterday. The Gyrenes led their Sun Conference rivals 14-0 after 1 Quarter of play but trailed the Fire 28-24 by the break. AMU came back to win the game 38-35 in the 2nd Half. QB Clayton Uecker went 19 of 33 for 365 yards and 3 Touchdowns in the victory.
INSTANT CLASSICS – The AUSTIN COLLEGE KANGAROOS were on the road against the SOUTHWESTERN ASSEMBLIES OF GOD UNIVERSITY LIONS and after 4 Quarters of bone-breaking football the Kangaroos went home with a 27-20 triumph ### And in a defensive clinic the WEBBER INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY WARRIORS pulled away late from the POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS for a 13-3 road win.
BUTTKICKINGS – The ALDERSON BROADDUS UNIVERSITY BATTLERS, still impressing in their very first year of intercollegiate football, celebrated Homecoming by handing a very authoritative 45-24 beatdown to the WARNER UNIVERSITY ROYALS. ### And the MIDWESTERN STATE UNIVERSITY MUSTANGS dismembered the visiting MCMURRY WAR HAWKS in a hilarious SEVENTY-ONE to THIRTEEN affair.
LIONS IN TIGERVILLE – The MARS HILL UNIVERSITY LIONS were in Tigerville, SC to do battle with the NCCAA’s NORTH GREENVILLE UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS. A 3-3 1st Quarter tie became a 20-15 edge for the Crusaders. The Lions came from behind to lead 23-20 after 3 Quarters and won the game 30-27. RB Jamel Harbison rushed for 237 yards and a Touchdown for Mars Hill.

NUMBER ONE TRIUMPHANT – The IOWA WESLEYAN COLLEGE TIGERS, the number one team in the USCAA in Balladeer’s Blog’s unofficial poll, welcomed the WESTMINSTER (MO) BLUE JAYS. A 21-7 Halftime lead for the Tigers became a 21-21 tie by the end of the 3rd Quarter. IWC exploded for 16 points in the 4th for a 37-21 victory. QB Caleb Huss passed for 160 yards and rushed for 86 more.
BLAZING A TRAIL TO VICTORY – The ALFRED STATE PIONEERS took the field against the visiting ERIE COLLEGE KATS on Saturday. It was all defense in the 1st Half, which ended with the Kats holding a 3-0 edge. That remained the score until the Pioneers came alive in the 4th Quarter for a 10-3 comeback victory. RB Rasheed Williams led the way for Alfred State with his 139 rushing yards.
TERROR IN TOMS RIVER – The JERSEY COAST JAGUARS welcomed the WILLIAMSON TRADE SCHOOL MECHANICS to Toms River, New Jersey for their game. Capitalizing on a comedy of errors by the Mechanics the Jaguars led 20-0 before the 1st Quarter was even over. Williamson never recovered and Jersey Coast won a 27-0 shutout.
MIGHTY MARAUDERS – The CENTRAL STATE MARAUDERS played host to the USCAA’s CONCORDIA (AL) COLLEGE HORNETS yesterday. The Marauders proved to be too much for the Hornets on both sides of the ball and dominated them pretty thoroughly. In the end the Marauders won easily by a score of 31-6.
SOMETIMES DRAGONS SLAY KNIGHTS – The CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS took the field against the SOUTHERN VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY KNIGHTS. The Red Dragons led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter on their way to a 35-0 triumph. Cortland State QB John Grassi passed for 287 yards and a Touchdown in the win.
OLIVER’S STORY – KENTUCKY WESLEYAN COLLEGE PANTHERS QB Dalton Oliver set a program record with 526 yards and SIX Touchdowns against the LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY AT BELLEVILLE LYNX. Believe it or not the game was knotted up at 28-28 before the Panthers scored 27 unanswered points for a 55-28 victory.

TOP TEN UPSETS – In addition to Pitt State toppling Northwest Missouri the (10) FERRIS STATE BULLDOGS, led by Coach Tony Annese, dragged down the homestanding (6) OHIO DOMINICAN PANTHERS by a score of 34-19 ### And the NOTRE DAME COLLEGE FALCONS just barely defeated their guests the (9) SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY RAMS in a 35-34 game for the ages.
TOP TWENTY-FIVE UPSETS – Coach Will Hall’s UNIVERSITY OF WEST GEORGIA WOLVES shocked the visiting (11) DELTA STATE STATESMEN by a score of 24-16 ### Meanwhile the OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY TIGERS won a 31-28 Overtime thriller at the (18) HARDING BISON ### And the UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES shocked the visiting (22) CENTRAL OKLAHOMA BRONCHOS (their spelling) to the tune of 31-19.
TWO AND THREE ROLL – On Friday night the (2) MINNESOTA STATE MAVERICKS welcomed the CONCORDIA (St Paul) GOLDEN BEARS and utterly pounded them in a 38-6 beating. ### And yesterday the (3) HENDERSON STATE UNIVERSITY REDDIES took it on the road against the ARKANSAS TECH WONDER BOYS, dominating on both sides of the ball for a 24-3 victory.
HOW ‘BOUT THEM COWBOYS? – The NEW MEXICO HIGHLANDS UNIVERSITY COWBOYS hosted the WESTERN STATE MOUNTAINEERS. The Cowboys let a 30-16 3rd Quarter lead slip away and faced a 43-43 tie with just a few seconds left to play. Kicker Zach Tapia notched a 46 yard Field Goal as time expired for a 46-43 win!
VARYING DEGREES OF BLOWOUTS – The WEST LIBERTY STATE HILLTOPPERS traveled to face the URBANA BLUE KNIGHTS. The Hilltoppers seized a 13-0 1st Quarter advantage and never let up enroute to a 44-14 win. QB Dakota Conwell threw for FOUR Touchdowns. ### And the MERCYHURST UNIVERSITY LAKERS logged a 45-23 road thrashing of the perennially overrated SLIPPERY ROCK ROCKETS.

Yesterday the LOCK HAVEN BALD EAGLES managed a 34-0 blanking of the homestanding CHEYNEY WOLVES ### The traveling STONEHILL SKYHAWKS shut out the PACE UNIVERSITY IRISH SETTERS 33-zip ### And the CLARK ATLANTA PANTHERS embarrassed the visiting BENEDICT TIGERS 47-0.
SOLID GOLD – The TUSKEGEE UNIVERSITY GOLDEN TIGERS eviscerated the homestanding STILLMAN UNIVERSITY TIGERS by a final score of SIXTY-ONE to NINETEEN! ### And the ALBANY STATE GOLDEN RAMS were also on the road and defeated the MOREHOUSE MAROON TIGERS in a 31-14 affair.

TOP TWENTY-FIVE UPSETS – The (14) UW- PLATTEVILLE PIONEERS hosted the (13) STEVENS POINT POINTERS and converted a 10-0 1st Quarter lead into a 24-0 Halftime advantage and finally a 31-13 upset win. QB Bryce Corrigan passed for 318 yds and 2 TD’s. ### And the PACIFIC UNIVERSITY BOXERS welcomed the (18) PACIFIC LUTHERAN LUTES to Hanson Stadium and after a 14-14 Halftime tie and a 21-21 3rd Quarter tie squeezed out a 31-28 victory.
A ONE ANNA TWO – The (1) Defending National Champions – the UW-WHITEWATER WARHAWKS – went on the road and annihilated the EAU CLAIRE BLUGOLDS in a FIFTY-TWO to THREE laugher. ### And the (2) UNIVERSITY OF MARY HARDIN- BAYLOR CRUSADERS hosted the LOUISIANA COLLEGE WILDCATS, handing them a 45-24 loss to think about on the trip home.
GETTING A JUMP ON THE WEEKEND – The (9) JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY BLUE JAYS took it on the road Friday against the DICKINSON COLLEGE RED DEVILS in a Centennial Conference clash. The Biddle Field spectators were silenced by the 21-0 lead the Blue Jays held after 1 Quarter of play and stayed unhappy the rest of the game as JHU crushed the Red Devils 42-7. QB Braden Anderson threw for 171 yds and 2 TDs while rushing for 2 more for the Blue Jays.
WE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – A defensive epic was on the agenda in the game between Rob Cushman’s AUGUSTANA (IL) COLLEGE VIKINGS and their hosts, the ILLINOIS WESLEYAN TITANS. The Vikings put up a 7-0 lead in the 1st Quarter which held up as the only number on the scoreboard until a 4th Quarter safety made the final tally Augustana 7 Illinois Wesleyan 2.
A DOUBLE-SHOT OF THAT OT LOVE – The FROSTBURG STATE BOBCATS played host to the ITHACA COLLEGE BOMBERS. A 7-7 tie in the 1st Quarter became a 14-14 tie at the break. Regulation ended with the score knotted up at 24 apiece. In the 1st Overtime session each team put up 7 points and then in the 2nd OT a missed PAT by the Bombers gave the Bobcats a 38-37 win. QB Ken Emmons passed for 241 yds and 2 TD’s.
GREEN OVER RED – The SAINT NORBERT COLLEGE GREEN KNIGHTS welcomed the RIPON RED HAWKS to Schneider Stadium. In this battle of familiar foes the Green Knights held a 3-0 1st Quarter edge which they expanded to 13-0 by Halftime. After the break the Red Hawks shut out St Norbert and came alive offensively. Their rally fell short, however, giving the Green Knights a 13-10 victory. RB Zach Broberg rushed for 98 yds and 1 TD for St Norbert.
IF IT ISN’T SCOTTISH IT’S CRAP! – The MACALESTER COLLEGE SCOTS took it on the road against the BELOIT BUCCANEERS on Saturday. The Scots trailed the Buccaneers 21-10 at the Half but exploded in the 3rd Quarter for 18 points. A scoreless 4th Quarter for both teams gave Macalester a 28-21 win. QB Samson Bialostok passed for 249 yards and 2 Touchdowns for the Scots.
BATTLE AT BUXTON STADIUM – The COE COLLEGE KOHAWKS traveled to play a gridiron grudge match against the SIMPSON COLLEGE STORM. The Kohawks led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but by Halftime the Storm had tied the game at 14-14. After the break Coe College outscored Simpson 21-7 for a 35-21 victory that evened their record at 3-3. QB Josh Rekers passed for 273 yds and 2 TD’s for the Kohawks.
GENERALLY A SUCCESS – The WASHINGTON & LEE GENERALS played host to the RANDOLPH- MACON YELLOW JACKETS. A 7-0 1st Quarter lead for the Generals wound up as a 14-14 tie at the break. RMC had grabbed a 17-14 edge by the end of the 3rd Quarter but in the 4th Washington & Lee turned it on to win the game 28-25. Generals QB Charlie Nelson threw for 2 TD’s and rushed for 1 more in the win.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The SAINT OLAF COLLEGE OLES did battle with the CARLETON KNIGHTS in their own house. A 3-3 tie at the Half held up through 3 Quarters but an offensive explosion in the 4th gave the Oles a 17-13 win. ### And the WORCESTER STATE LANCERS won a 50-43 shootout with the visiting UMASS- DARTMOUTH CORSAIRS.
A DIFFERENT TYPE OF RANKED TEAM – The CENTRE COLLEGE COLONELS journeyed to Harris Stadium to face the SEWANEE TIGERS. The outcome of the game was never really in doubt as the Colonels led 14-0 in the 1st Quarter, 21-3 at Halftime and 28-3 in the 3rd enroute to a 31-3 triumph. RB Nolan Coulter rushed for 170 yds and 1 TD for Centre College.

ONE AND TWO ROLL – At number 2 the IOWA WESTERN COLLEGE REIVERS easily dispatched their guests the COLLEGE OF DUPAGE CHAPARRALS by a score of SIXTY-FIVE to TWENTY-SEVEN ### And the (1) EAST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LIONS traveled to face the NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE RANGERS and wiped them out in a FORTY-NINE to NOTHING laugher.
WIN IT BY TEN OR ELEVEN – The IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS took on the visiting DODGE CITY COLLEGE CONQUISTADORS on Saturday. The Tritons won this magnificent pigskin clash 31-21. ### And the MINNESOTA WEST BLUE JAYS sent the MESABI RANGE COLLEGE NORSE back home stinging from a 32-21 loss at their hands.
TOASTED DOGS – The (5) HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS played host to the HIGHLAND COLLEGE SCOTTIES yesterday. The Blue Dragons were spanking the Scotties 52-13 by the break and from there coasted to a 58-35 win. QB Dalton Demos threw for 182 yards and FOUR Touchdowns for Hutchinson.
CATS DOING THE TOASTING – The ELLSWORTH COLLEGE PANTHERS and the INDEPENDENCE COLLEGE PIRATES fought it out on the Panthers’ home turf. The end result was a 49-0 blowout win for Ellsworth. ### And the NASSAU COLLEGE LIONS smacked around the DEAN COLLEGE BULLDOGS to the tune of 38-0 in another example of defensive perfection.

DOUBLING UP ON THE COMPETITION – The SCOTTSDALE COLLEGE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES routed the visiting MESA COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS by a score of 58-29 ### And the DAKOTA COLLEGE AT BOTTINEAU LUMBERJACKS doubled up on the homestanding NORTH DAKOTA STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE WILDCATS in a 42-21 affair.

NUMBER TWO GOES DOWN – The 2nd ranked LONG BEACH CITY COLLEGE VIKINGS were on the road against the CHAFFEY COLLEGE PANTHERS on Saturday. A 13-10 lead for the Panthers after 1 Quarter of play was the first indication that something was in the air. Chaffey expanded that lead by a point to 34-30 at Halftime. After the break the game was mostly defense, with the Panthers holding on for a 40-36 upset win. QB Levi Plante passed for 351 yds and 2 TD’s for Chaffey.
TOP FIVE TEAMS TRIUMPHANT – The number 4 COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS held on to survive a tight 24-21 visit from the SANTA ROSA COLLEGE BEAR CUBS. ### And the 5th ranked MOUNT SAN ANTONIO COLLEGE MOUNTIES trailed 14-7 in the 1st Quarter before turning things around for a FORTY-ONE to SEVENTEEN beatdown of the CITRUS COLLEGE FIGHTING OWLS.
UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The SAN DIEGO MESA COLLEGE OLYMPIANS, led by QB Brandon Diaz, came back from a 12-9 Halftime deficit to defeat the MOUNT SAN JACINTO EAGLES in an 18-15 nailbiter ### And the BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE RENEGADES logged a 50-47 road win over the MOORPARK COLLEGE RAIDERS.
WIN IT BY FOURTEEN – The GROSSMONT COLLEGE GRIFFINS welcomed the SADDLEBACK COLLEGE GAUCHOS to Mashin- Roth Stadium. After leading at the Half 41-13 the Griffins went cold offensively and won by just 41-27. ### And the DIABLO VALLEY VIKINGS topped the homestanding DE ANZA COLLEGE DONS by a final tally of 35-21.
