COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM SEPTEMBER 6th

college of idaho coyotesCOLLEGE OF IDAHO MARKS THE RETURN OF FOOTBALL WITH A WIN – Yesterday the NAIA’s COLLEGE OF IDAHO COYOTES played their first game of intercollegiate football since 1977! The Yotes did it in style, too, not only notching a win ON THE ROAD but carrying on the NAIA tradition of defeating their rivals in NCAA Division 3 football. C of I battled the D3 PACIFIC UNIVERSITY BOXERS and led 7-0 in the 1st Quarter but were tied with the Boxers 14-14 at Halftime. Things stood at 28-28 going into the 4th Quarter but in the end the Coyotes blocked a Field Goal attempt and won the game 35-34! Welcome back to the gridiron, College of Idaho!

Menlo Oaks helmetTHE OAKS RULE THE WORLD – Each week of every college football season at least one NAIA football team upsets a team in NCAA Division Two, similar to when a 1AA team upsets a 1A team. Yesterday the MENLO COLLEGE OAKS took it on the road to Canada to battle D2’s SIMON FRASER UNIVERSITY CLAN (as in Scottish clan). The Oaks won this instant classic by a final score of 31-24. By Halftime the Blue Tigers had seized a 42-28 advantage but Langston’s QB Mark Wright, Jr came out of the break ready to lead his team to a comeback win. The Lions scored 21 unanswered points while shutting out the Blue Tigers all 2nd Half until very late in the 4th Quarter. After going up 21-3 in the 3rd Foothill College nearly blew it as the Giants exploded in the 4th to tie the game at 24-24 and force Overtime. In that OT session the Owls escaped with a 27-24 victory.

Los Angeles Southwest College Cougars helmetSAFETY LAST – A Safety turned out to be the only points given up by the LOS ANGELES SOUTHWEST COLLEGE COUGARS when they visited the COMPTON COLLEGE TARTARS this weekend. And that wasn’t even til the FOURTH QUARTER! The Cougars themselves put up 7 points in the 1st Quarter, 10 in the 2nd and then 7 more in both the 3rd and 4th Quarters. Cougars QB Justin Lewis threw for 159 yards and 1 Touchdown in the 31-2 win.

Santa ana donsUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – The SANTA ANA COLLEGE DONS played host to the ALLAN HANCOCK COLLEGE BULLDOGS yesterday. The Bulldogs got off to a 3-0 lead in the 1st Quarter but the Dons turned the tables and led 14-10 by Halftime. Santa Ana took a 21-13 advantage into the 4th Quarter, then had to hold on against an Allan Hancock rally – the final score was Dons 28  Bulldogs 26.     ###      And the LOS MEDANOS MUSTANGS won a back and forth 19-16 affair at the MERCED COLLEGE BLUE DEVILS.

Glendale (CA) Vaqueros helmetSHUTOUT – There was only one game in the CCCAA yesterday that featured a goose egg on the scoreboard and it was the clash between the GLENDALE (CA) VAQUEROS and their guests, the EAST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE HUSKIES. An early 3-0 lead for the Vaqueros was just the start of the fun for the home team. By the break they led 31-0, which became a 38-0 advantage after 3 Quarters of play and a final result of FORTY-ONE to NOTHING.
