COLLEGE BASKETBALL RESULTS FROM FEBRUARY 8th

NUMBER THREE TAKES A FALL – The BABSON COLLEGE BEAVERS hosted the 3rd-ranked team in the nation, the WORCESTER POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE ENGINEERS yesterday in a game that shocked the nation. By Halftime the unranked Beavers had compiled a 36-28 lead and didn’t let up in the 2nd Half, notching a 71-62 upset win when all was said and done. Babson was led by Joey Flannery with 20 points.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING! – The CASTLETON STATE COLLEGE SPARTANS scored an unbelievable ONE HUNDRED THIRTY-SEVEN points yesterday! The Spartans were on the road against the GREEN MOUNTAIN COLLEGE EAGLES and scored 78 points in the FIRST HALF ALONE for a 38 point Halftime lead! That point total would have been enough to win an entire game in many instances but Castleton State was just warming up and went back home with a 137-97 win.  

CENTURY CLUB – NCAA DIVISION TWO – The BLUEFIELD STATE COLLEGE BIG BLUE open up this section for D2 with the 100 points they registered in their comeback win over the visiting SALEM INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY TIGERS, who scored 91 in the loss   ###   The MCKENDREE UNIVERSITY BEARCATS came back from a 7-point Halftime deficit to win a 106-99 game against the MISSOURI S&T MINERS   ###   The KING (TN) TORNADO smacked down the MT OLIVE COLLEGE WARRIORS to the tune of 115-95   ###   And the CATAWBA COLLEGE INDIANS likewise scored 106 to the 87 put up by the homestanding TUSCULUM COLLEGE PIONEERS.  

CENTURY CLUB – NCAA DIVISION THREE – The WHEELOCK COLLEGE WILDCATS hosted the SOUTHERN VERMONT MOUNTAINEERS and converted a 48-42 Halftime lead into a 103-95 victory   ###   Meanwhile the GRINNELL COLLEGE PIONEERS battled the BELOIT BUCCANEERS and sent them home with a 111-98 loss   ###   And the UT-TYLER PATRIOTS handed a 101-84 smackdown to the visiting SUL ROSS STATE LOBOS.  

MARATHON GAME OF THE DAY – Yesterday’s clash between the IMMACULATA UNIVERSITY MIGHTY MACS and their hosts, the BAPTIST BIBLE COLLEGE DEFENDERS was the Marathon Game of the Day. The two programs fought through Regulation and TWO OVERTIME PERIODS before a winner at last emerged. The Mighty Macs went back home with a 104-101 triumph in this Instant Classic of a game.

WORKING OVERTIME – D2 – The UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA SPARTANS led the FLORIDA TECH PANTHERS by a score of 33-29 at the break but watched their opponents come back to tie the game at 60 apiece by the time the horn sounded on Regulation. In Overtime the Spartans at last won the game 72-64.   ###   And the CHICO STATE WILDCATS came back from a Halftime deficit of 43-39 to tie the CAL STATE-SAN BERNARDINO COYOTES 70-70 as Regulation came to a close. In OT the Wildcats won this hardcourt epic 86-82. 

WORKING OVERTIME – D3 – The RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE ANCHORMEN and the KEENE STATE OWLS ended Regulation tied up at 66-66 but the Anchormen went on to win in the extra session by a final score of 75-70   ###   The UNIVERSITY OF LA VERNE LEOPARDS meanwhile took down the visiting CAL LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY KINGSMEN in Overtime by a score of 80-76   ###   And the CHAPMAN PANTHERS logged a 78-74 OT road win against the WHITTIER COLLEGE POETS.  

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – D2 – The COKER COLLEGE COBRAS had to withstand a furious 2nd Half comeback attempt by the MARS HILL LIONS but held on in the end for a 97-90 victory   ###   The MARYVILLE UNIVERSITY OF ST LOUIS SAINTS on the other hand mounted a successful 2nd Half comeback to defeat the ST JOSEPH’S PUMAS in a 72-68 nailbiter   ###   And the ST MICHAEL’S COLLEGE PURPLE KNIGHTS likewise came back after the break for a breathtaking 66-64 road win over the STONEHILL SKYHAWKS.

UNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – D3 – The TRANSYLVANIA UNIVERSITY PIONEERS trailed their hosts the ANDERSON RAVENS by a Halftime score of 36-28 but poured it on in the 2nd Half to go back home with a 69-65 victory   ###   Meanwhile in a defensive struggle the GENESEO STATE BLUE KNIGHTS took down the PLATTSBURGH STATE CARDINALS in a 60-51 affair   ###   The ALBANY COLLEGE OF PHARMACY PANTHERS eked out a 56-53 bruiser of a win over the SARAH LAWRENCE GRYPHONS   ###   And the MAINE- PRESQUE ISLE OWLS snuck past the CENTRAL MAINE MUSTANGS by a final score of 96-93. 

VARYING DEGREES OF DOUBLE-DIGITS – The UNIVERSITY OF THE SCIENCES DEVILS took it on the road against the CONCORDIA (NY) CLIPPERS and handed them a 94-79 loss   ###   The MINOT STATE BEAVERS likewise logged a road win over the MINNESOTA- CROOKSTON GOLDEN EAGLES to the tune of 87-64   ###   And the LEE UNIVERSITY FLAMES sent the UNION (TN) BULLDOGS home reeling from a 75-63 loss. 

WHEN COOL-NAMED TEAMS CLASH … – Yesterday the ACADEMY OF ART URBAN KNIGHTS hosted the NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR UNIVERSITY ARGONAUTS in a Pacific West Conference clash. The Urban Knights led the Argonauts by a score of 30-24 at the Half and kept up the pace after the break. The final score in this donnybrook between cool-named programs was Academy of Art 68  Notre Dame de Namur 56. 

BUTTKICKINGS – The UNIVERSITY OF BRIDGEPORT PURPLE KNIGHTS were annihilating the MERCY COLLEGE MUSTANGS at the break by a score of 46-19 and wound up winning by a final score of NINETY-EIGHT to FIFTY-EIGHT   ###   And the POINT LOMA NAZARENE UNIVERSITY SEA LIONS came back to smack around the homestanding FRESNO PACIFIC UNIVERSITY SUNBIRDS by a final score of 89-69.
