COLLEGE FOOTBALL RESULTS FROM NOVEMBER 9TH

Wesley WolverinesWESLEY COLLEGE RULES THE WORLD – The NCAA Division Three team the WESLEY COLLEGE WOLVERINES borrowed a page from NAIA college football and brought down a team from a higher division. The Wolverines (who I say should change their name to the Crushers … think about it, Star Trek fans) took down the Division ONE Charlotte 49ers 35-28 in their own house! Congratulations Wesley for having the guts that Mt Union lacks!

Texas A&M Commerce LionsTAMC RULES THE WORLD, TOO – NCAA Division Two team the TEXAS A&M-COMMERCE LIONS took it on the road against Division ONE’s Houston Baptist Huskies. The Lions completely dominated their opponents, shoving them all over the field at times. The final score in this upset that TAMC fans will cherish was Lions 55  Huskies 21.    

Northwestern College Red RaidersNUMBER ONE TAKES A FALL – The NAIA’s number 19 NORTHWESTERN (IA) COLLEGE RED RAIDERS welcomed the number one team in the nation, the MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE MUSTANGS and proved more than equal to the challenge! The Red Raiders handed the Mustangs their first loss of the season by a score of 38-28. Northwestern improves to 7-2, the Mustangs fall to 8-1. 

Missouri Valley CollegeOTHER TOP 25 UPSETS – NAIA – At number 10 the MISSOURI VALLEY COLLEGE VIKINGS toppled the 4th-ranked BENEDICTINE RAVENS sending them home reeling from a 42-14 smackdown   ###   The number 20 ST FRANCIS (IL) FIGHTING SAINTS upset the visiting 11th-ranked ST AMBROSE UNIVERSITY FIGHTING BEES in a 21-19 Instant Classic.   

Evangel CrusadersMORE TOP 25 UPSETS – NAIA – Also in yesterday’s topsy-turvy action the EVANGEL UNIVERSITY CRUSADERS stunned the homestanding number 13 PERU STATE BOBCATS by a score of 35-27   ###   The CUMBERLAND UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS traveled to take down the 20th-ranked REINHARDT EAGLES 40-28   ###   Meanwhile the LANGSTON LIONS took it on the road and snuck past the number 22 BACONE WARRIORS by a score of 39-37.      

Siena Heights SaintsAND YET STILL MORE TOP 25 UPSETS – NAIA – Upset Saturday saw two more road teams wreak havoc on the rankings. The SIENA HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY SAINTS won a 22-21 game for the ages at the 24th-ranked ROBERT MORRIS (IL) EAGLES   ###   And the number 25 SOUTHERN OREGON UNIVERSITY RAIDERS were knocked out of the rankings by the visiting EASTERN OREGON MOUNTAINEERS in an equally tight 38-37 affair.  

Bloomsburg HuskiesTOP 25 UPSETS – NCAA DIVISION 2 – The 16th-ranked BLOOMSBURG UNIVERSITY HUSKIES won at the number 9 WEST CHESTER GOLDEN RAMS 31-28   ###   The EASTERN NEW MEXICO UNIVERSITY GREYHOUNDS meanwhile bought down the visiting 13th-ranked MIDWESTERN STATE MUSTANGS in an authoritative 40-21 win.     

Missouri WesternTOP 25 UPSETS – D2, VOLUME 2 – At number 20 the MISSOURI WESTERN GRIFFONS notched a tight 34-31 road upset against the 14th-ranked WASHBURN ICHABODS   ###   The CARSON NEWMAN EAGLES showed some of their old flare by upsetting the number 24 NEWBERRY WOLVES 52-31   ###   And the MILES GOLDEN BEARS traveled to take down the storied 25th-ranked TUSKEGEE GOLDEN TIGERS in a 41-36 epic.  

Bluffton Beavers helmetTOP 25 UPSETS – NCAA DIVISION 3 – The BLUFFTON UNIVERSITY BEAVERS knocked off the visiting number 9 FRANKLIN GRIZZLIES in a very memorable 24-17 game   ###   The 14th-ranked JOHN CARROLL UNIVERSITY BLUE STREAKS mangled the number 10 HEIDELBERG STUDENT PRINCES to the tune of 48-7.  

Wittenberg_OHTOP 25 UPSETS – D3 CONTINUED – The 16th-ranked WITTENBERG UNIVERSITY TIGERS pummeled the number 13 WABASH LITTLE GIANTS 35-17 in their own house   ###   And it took Overtime but the unranked CORNELL (IA) COLLEGE RAMS toppled the visiting 22nd-ranked ILLINOIS COLLEGE BLUE BOYS by a final score of 35-29.  

Carroll_MTWHEN RANKED TEAMS CLASH – The (5) CARROLL COLLEGE FIGHTING SAINTS hosted the (7) ROCKY MOUNTAIN COLLEGE BATTLIN’ BEARS and eked out a 37-35 win   ###   The (9) OTTAWA UNIVERSITY BRAVES won 38-28 at the (16) FRIENDS FALCONS   ###   And the (2) NORTHWEST MISSOURI BEARCATS mauled the homestanding (11) EMPORIA STATE HORNETS 48-21.  

Menlo Oaks helmetMENLO HONORS VETERANS – Since this is Veterans Day weekend the game between the MENLO COLLEGE OAKS and the visiting PRESENTATION COLLEGE SAINTS honored America’s vets during halftime. As for the game itself the Oaks showed superiority on both sides of the ball and defeated the Saints by a score of 35-17.

ASA CollegeWE ARE THE CHAMPIONS – Meanwhile the ASA COLLEGE AVENGERS hammered the NASSAU LIONS 37-7 for the Northeast Football Conference title   ###   In the Western States League the SCOTTSDALE FIGHTING ARTICHOKES won the championship with a 45-31 win over the MESA COLLEGE THUNDERBIRDS   ###   The TRINITY VALLEY CARDINALS took the Southwest Football Conference crown by beating the NAVARRO COLLEGE BULLDOGS 56-45   ###   And the EAST MISSISSIPPI LIONS crushed the JONES BOBCATS 61-24 for the Mississippi Conference title.   

Arkansas TechALL-NAME GAMES – Gridiron encounters between teams with cool and virtually unique names : the ARKANSAS TECH WONDERBOYS went into Overtime with the visiting SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA SAVAGE STORM before winning out 37-34   ###   And the SOUTH DAKOTA M&T HARDROCKERS invaded the home of the UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-KEARNEY LOPERS and beat them 34-26. 

Thiel TomcatsHOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN GOING ON? – This week’s winner of the designation of Marathon Game of the Day was the clash between the THIEL COLLEGE TOMCATS and the WESTMINSTER (PA) COLLEGE TITANS. It took FOUR OVERTIME PERIODS to decide a winner but in the end the homestanding Tomcats emerged with a 45-37 triumph.   

Hastings BroncosTOM OSBORNE NO DOUBT SMILED – Mere days after the NAIA renamed their national championship trophy for football the Tom Osborne Trophy Osborne’s alma mater in the NAIA, the HASTINGS COLLEGE BRONCOS won big. The Broncos eviscerated their Great Plains Athletic Conference rivals the DORDT COLLEGE DEFENDERS by a score of SIXTY-SIX to TWENTY-ONE!

Michigan Tech helmetWORKING OVERTIME – A Double Overtime battle between the MICHIGAN TECH HUSKIES and the homestanding HILLSDALE CHARGERS ended with a 30-27 win for the Huskies   ###   The TRINE THUNDER meanwhile won in Single OT 47-41 at the OLIVET COMETS   ###   And the SAN JOAQUIN DELTA MUSTANGS held serve against the SIERRA WOLVERINES in a 35-32 Overtime affair.   

East_StroudsburgROUT(E) SIXTY-SIX – 66 was a popular score in blowouts yesterday. The EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY WARRIORS dismembered the visiting MILLERSVILLE MARAUDERS 66-7   ###   And the (5) HENDERSON STATE UNIVERSITY REDDIES beat up on the SOUTHERN ARKANSAS MULERIDERS to the tune of 66-24.

Ave Maria helmetPAUL ANKA NOT INCLUDED – The AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY GYRENES continue to have the best season in their football program’s very brief history! In just their third year of intercollegiate gridiron competition the Gyrenes now boast a 6-2 record. Ave Maria U improved to that mark with yesterday’s 56-19 road thrashing of the POINT UNIVERSITY SKYHAWKS.

San Mateo BulldogsRUSHING INTO THE RECORD BOOKS – George Naufahu, running back for the COLLEGE OF SAN MATEO BULLDOGS broke a 27 year old rushing record for the program. He put up 229 yards against the visiting DE ANZA COLLEGE DONS and, most importantly, San Mateo won the game by a final score of 52-28 after leading just 23-21 at Halftime. 

Saint Joseph's Pumas helmetWE WENT TO A FOOTBALL GAME BUT A BASEBALL GAME BROKE OUT – The ST JOSEPH’S COLLEGE PUMAS won a defensive masterpiece at the TRUMAN STATE BULLDOGS. The final score was Pumas 6  Bulldogs 3   ###   And the EDINBORO UNIVERSITY FIGHTING SCOTS snuck past the visiting CLARION EAGLES 9-7.    

Montana Western helmetUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – NAIA – The MONTANA WESTERN BULLDOGS squeezed out a 20-14 home victory over the MONTANA TECH OREDIGGERS   ###   The UNIVERSITY OF PIKEVILLE  BEARS sent the BELHAVEN BLAZERS home full of regret over a 38-34 loss   ###   The (3) GRAND VIEW VIKINGS defeated the WILLIAM PENN STATESMEN 25-17   ###   And the (8) ST FRANCIS (IN) COUGARS won a hard-hitting 20-12 road game against the TAYLOR TROJANS.

Winona StateUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – NCAA D2 – The WINONA STATE WARRIORS edged the visiting AUGUSTANA (SD) VIKINGS by a score of 28-24   ###   The UPPER IOWA PEACOCKS meanwhile won 24-21 at the WAYNE STATE (NE) WILDCATS   ###   The AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COUGARS snuck by the DIXIE STATE RED STORM 23-20   ###   And the ALBANY STATE GOLDEN RAMS notched a 19-10 road win over the FT VALLEY WILDCATS.

Chicago Maroons helmetUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – NCAA D3 – The UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO MAROONS won a 14-12 game for the ages against the visiting CARNEGIE MELLON TARTANS   ###   The EUREKA COLLEGE RED DEVILS defeated the CROWN COLLEGE STORM in a very tight 17-14 contest   ###   The CAPITAL CRUSADERS survived a 27-24 visit from the MUSKINGUM MUSKIES   ###   And the BUENA VISTA BEAVERS won at the SIMPSON STORM 34-32.

DakotaUNDER THE RADAR CLASSICS – NJCAA – The DAKOTA COLLEGE AT BOTTINEAU LUMBERJACKS engaged in a clash of defensive juggernauts at the TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE LIONS, going home with a 6-0 victory   ###   And the IOWA CENTRAL COLLEGE TRITONS won a 19-15 thriller at the NORTH DAKOTA STATE COLLEGE OF SCIENCE WILDCATS.

Southwestern (CA) College JaguarsUNDER THE RADAR CLASICS – CCCAA – The SOUTHWESTERN (CA) COLLEGE JAGUARS were on the road against the VICTOR VALLEY RAMS and managed a 31-30 comeback win   ###   The GLENDALE (CA) VAQUEROS likewise won on the road against their namesakes, the SANTA BARBARA CITY COLLEGE VAQUEROS by a score of 24-17.

Bakersfield College RenegadesUNDER THE RADAR CLASICS – CCCAA VOLUME 2 – The storied BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE RENEGADES held serve in a 17-14 win over the ALLAN HANCOCK BULLDOGS   ###   The WEST LOS ANGELES WILDCATS won at the LOS ANGELES VALLEY MONARCHS 32-27   ###   And the COLLEGE OF THE SISKIYOUS EAGLES eked out a 15-14 victory over the FEATHER RIVER GOLDEN EAGLES.                 

Kentucky_St_OLD1SHUTOUTS – The KENTUCKY STATE THOROBREDS were less than gracious hosts, smacking down the MOREHOUSE MAROON TIGERS to the tune of 44-0   ###   The (7) SHEPHERD UNIVERSITY RAMS head-butted the WEST VIRGINIA STATE YELLOW JACKETS 47-0   ###   And the NORTHERN STATE WOLVES logged a more modest 28-0 road shutout against the MINNESOTA-CROOKSTON GOLDEN EAGLES.

Whittier Poets helmetSHOOTOUTS – The WHITTIER COLLEGE POETS withstood a 59-52 invasion from the OCCIDENTAL COLLEGE TIGERS   ###   The CORTLAND STATE RED DRAGONS defeated the visiting MORRISVILLE STATE MUSTANGS by a score of 62-49   ###   And the CONCORDIA (WI) FALCONS took down the AURORA SPARTANS in a 49-41 battle royal.   

Findlay OilersVARYING DEGREES OF BUTTKICKINGS – The UNIVERSITY OF FINDLAY OILERS managed an impressive 45-21 road win over the NORTHWOOD (MI) TIMBERWOLVES   ###   The ST ANSELM HAWKS eradicated the homestanding PACE SETTERS by a score of 63-33   ###   And the SHAW UNIVERSITY BEARS won 32-14 at the ST AUGUSTINE’S FALCONS. 

Hardin-Simmons CowboysOUTSTANDING TAKEDOWN OF A TEAM CALLED BULLDOGS – Regular readers of Balladeer’s Blog are aware of how bored I am with the overabundance of college sports teams called Bulldogs, Eagles, Tigers and Wildcats. This week’s recognition of a commendable smackdown of such a team goes to the storied HARDIN-SIMMONS UNIVERSITY COWBOYS for their 73-44 manhandling of the visiting TEXAS LUTHERAN BULLDOGS.

Fullerton College HornetsONE TEAM WAS PLAYING BASKETBALL – In other games that featured very lopsided scores we had: The FULLERTON COLLEGE HORNETS heavily stung the ORANGE COAST PIRATES 63-21 in their own house   ###   The BUTTE COLLE ROADRUNNERS decimated the FOOTHILL OWLS 84-7 ###   And the HARTNELL PANTHERS doubled up on the GAVILAN RAMS 70-35. 

Butler (KS) Grizzlies*** SUNDAY NOVEMBER 10th SCORES – The BUTLER (KS) GRIZZLIES once again took the Region VI title by defeating their archrivals the HUTCHINSON COLLEGE BLUE DRAGONS. The final score in this pigskin Armageddon was Grizzlies 24  Blue Dragons 21   ###   The ROCHESTER TECH YELLOW JACKETS won the Minnesota Collegiate Athletic Conference crown with a 27-14 win over the BRAINERD RAIDERS   ###   And in the Empire State the MONROE COLLEGE MUSTANGS defeated the homestanding GLOBE TECH KNIGHTS 32-22.
