It was on November 6th, 1869, that Rutgers and Princeton played the very first college football game “on the banks of the Raritan” as the Rutgers fight song says. One of the things I love about college football is how far back its history goes.
It feels odd to think that Ulysses S Grant was in the White House when that game was played. If his cabinet members had gotten involved in the sport I’m sure they would have masterminded cheating and recruitment scandals that make today’s revelations look pretty mild by comparison!
A pack of larcenous, dishonest weasels in the White House, just like today! The more things change, the more they stay the same! From Credit Mobilier to Benghazi, the IRS scandals, Obamacare and all the other countless scandals of the failed Obama presidency! Here’s to 144 years of college football and shallow, clueless figureheads in the White House!
Happy Birthday!
