CONCORDIA- NEBRASKA RULES THE WORLD – As always during college football season every week brings us at least one NAIA team upsetting upper division teams from the NCAA. Last week two teams upset Division ONE teams. Last night the CONCORDIA (NE) BULLDOGS doubled- up on NCAA Division 2’s WILLIAM JEWELL COLLEGE CARDINALS in their own house! The final score in this game was Bulldogs 30 Cardinals 15.
TEAMS KICKING BUTT – The BELLEVILLE LYNX are in just their 2nd year of intercollegiate football but are already 2-0 for this season. Last night they notched a road win over the veteran CENTRAL METHODIST UNIVERSITY EAGLES in a 41-14 rout. ### Also last night the PIKEVILLE UNIVERSITY BEARS eviscerated the BLUEFIELD COLLEGE RAMBLIN’ RAMS by a final score of 53-16. Bluefield is in just their 2nd year of intercollegiate football as well.

BEARCATS GROWLING – The 3rd ranked NORTHWEST MISSOURI STATE BEARCATS were the highest- ranked D2 team in action last night. These perennial D2 football powers welcomed the number 18 SAGINAW VALLEY STATE CARDINALS and plucked their feathers to the tune of 45-24.
TOP 25 UPSETS – Yesterday saw 2 upsets of ranked teams. The UNC-PEMBROKE BRAVES toppled the visiting 8th ranked WINSTON-SALEM STATE RAMS in a 25-21 nailbiter. ### And the SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA BULLDOGS sent the number 25 HARDING UNIVERSITY BISON home stinging from an equally close 27-23 loss.
SHOW-ME STATE SHOWDOWN – The 5th ranked team in the nation, the MISSOURI WESTERN GRIFFONS, traveled to face the unranked CENTRAL MISSOURI MULES. This hard-fought affair may well have been the game of the night and in the end the Griffons emerged with a win by a final score of 26-23.
MARATHON GAME OF THE NIGHT – The game earning that distinction was last night’s clash between the unranked MISSOURI S&T MINERS and the visiting number 21 team, the CHADRON STATE EAGLES. This game lasted through TWO OVERTIMES with Chadron State at last coming walking away with a 40-34 victory.
BOY WONDERS – The ARKANSAS TECH WONDER BOYS took it on the road to face the NORTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY RANGERS. This game between two hard-nosed squads kept you guessing briefly before the dominant team took control and when all was said and done the final score was Wonder Boys 38 Rangers 10.
LIONS AND TIGERS AND SCARES, OH MY! – In this matchup the LINDENWOOD UNIVERSITY LIONS welcomed the LINCOLN (MO) BLUE TIGERS for a true catfight. “Nailbiter” hardly even begins to describe this incredibly tense encounter which Lindenwood wound up winning by the narrow margin of 24-22.
” IF IT ISN’T SCOTTISH IT’S CRAAAAAP! ” – The EDINBORO UNIVERSITY FIGHTING SCOTS battled the WALSH UNIVERSITY CAVALIERS in a true grudge match. This gridiron epic saw the Fighting Scots eke out a 35-34 road win over the Cavaliers. ### In another under-the- radar classic from last night the GANNON UNIVERSITY GOLDEN KNIGHTS managed a 36-33 triumph over the homestanding LAKE ERIE COLLEGE STORM.
BLUE GRASS BATTLEGROUND – The KENTUCKY STATE UNIVERSITY THOROBREDS (love that name) played road warriors and smacked down their Bluegrass State rivals the KENTUCKY WESLEYAN PANTHERS in a big way! The Thorobreds refused to let up, showing the killer instinct that last year’s team lacked and pummeled the Panthers by a final score of 42-6.
ALL-NAME GAME – Last night’s game that earned this distinction was the clash between the SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA SAVAGE STORM and the SOUTHERN ARKANSAS UNIVERSITY MULERIDERS (where Tommy Tuberville played his college ball). The home team crowd went home happy with the final result as the Savage Storm came out on top in this thrilling shootout by a score of 56-50.
VARYING DEGREES OF BUTT-KICKINGS – The EMPORIA STATE UNIVERSITY HORNETS notched a road win over the FORT HAYS TIGERS in a 43-13 annihilation. ### The WASHBURN UNIVERSITY ICHABODS crushed the homestanding UNIVERSITY OF NEBRASKA-KEARNEY LOPERS 58-13. ### And the UNIVERSITY OF NORTH ALABAMA LIONS sent the MILES COLLEGE GOLDEN BEARS home reeling from a 42-7 rout.
FLY, FALCONS, FLY! – Last night saw the FAIRMONT STATE UNIVERSITY FALCONS, now in the brand-new league called the Mountain East Conference, host their former West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals the SETON HILL UNIVERSITY GRIFFINS. Fairmont State put up a victory for their new home in this 37-29 gridiron Armageddon.
SHUTOUT! – One particular game from yesterday’s action wound up looking like one team was playing basketball while the other was playing soccer. The COLLEGE OF FAITH MIGHTY BELIEVERS traveled to take on the TUSCULUM COLLEGE PIONEERS. The Pioneers blazed a trail to the endzone over and over again, ultimately winning a FIFTY-THREE to NOTHING laugher.

WELCOME TO ELMHURST – The number 22 team in the nation, the ELMHURST COLLEGE BLUEJAYS played host to the LORAS COLLEGE DUHAWKS (Yes, Duhawks). The Bluejays were less than gracious, making their case for climbing up the rankings by thrashing the Duhawks by a final score of 35-9. Next week Elmhurst battles Trine University.
RIDERS ON THE STORM – And speaking of the ever-tough TRINE UNIVERSITY THUNDER, that team took it on the road to face the MANCHESTER UNIVERSITY SPARTANS. The Thunder dominated on both sides of the ball and after thundering down on their opponents for 4 Quarters packed up and went home with a 19-3 victory to start their 2013 campaign.
